Discussion: Get rid of the 1-1 count

I enjoy the one and one count (we get no extra foul). It's a hitters game and allows for more overall at bats since more innings are played. If the first pitch is there go ahead and take a whack at it. It may not be the cookie the batter wanted inside or outside but if its a strike the ball is coming in slow enough to change your predetermined batted ball placement. Fouling a ball off in slow pitch softball to "stay alive" sounds kinda funny to me. Just sayin.

I don't know if it was my imagination but it seemed the strike mat at BLD in Vegas for 40's was the exact width of the plate. Not 2 inches wider. Again..... this could have been my imagination.

Discussion: 1-1 count and new ball

It will be fun to read these comments if and when the other groups go to 1-1 with NO foul like we use in 40's. You have it made having one foul. Enjoy it! As a pull hitter, I prefer one foul but I must admit it does have me learning more patience and going middle/right side a bit. This may not be good on the pitchers health though since I see many others going middle much more often too.

Discussion: New 2018 Melee Reloaded

Hi all! These Melee Reloaded bats have been out awhile now. Just checking in on durability. I swung a friends and it felt amazing to swing so I bought one. Once thing i have noticed is these bats do not seem to have the same "soft" barrel feel when striking a ball. Is it my imagination or maybe I have not broken the bat in enough? I am trying to limit the swings until I hear more about durability. Thanks!

Always amazes me that guys will take any shortcut they can. Aren't we all out there for some sort of exercise too? As a pinch runner for that guy I'd hold some resentment towards him. Just like when a guy hits one off the wall in the gap but basically jogs to first instead of hustling to 2nd because he knows ahead of time he can have a runner. Makes the pinch runner run that extra distance for him.

I think the ship may have sunk!

"The average travel time for a container vessel from Asia to the U.S. is between two weeks and a month. Documentation, customs clearance, handling and inland shipping can add 17 to 33 days to the total shipping time from most emerging market regions, and another 6 days once goods reach the United States."

Discussion: miken Freak Black ASA maxload 2016

All of the bats with the newest ASA stamp are made for the .52. They have less barrel flex. They are not designed to hit the .44. The 2004 stamp bat is not designed for the .52 and hits the .44 much better.

Here is a good read:

As of October 1, 2012, ASA has changed the way they are testing their slow pitch bats. With this change, ASA has also created a new stamp for all ASA-certified bats. Don’t worry though, ASA bats with the old stamp are grandfathered in and legal for play moving forward.

The biggest change has to do with how ASA performs their tests. In the past, ASA bats were tested with a cannon that fired a softball at the barrel of a bat at 110 mph. This test measured the balls exit speed off of the barrel to ensure the bat’s performance didn’t result in an exit speed greater than 98 mph. In the new test, the ball is fired at 105 mph instead of 110, but allows the exit speed to remain at 98 mph. The decrease in cannon speed allows for a greater bat performance. By slowing down the rate of the ball in the test, manufacturers can increase the speed at which the ball leaves the bat.

There was also a change made to the official softball used in ASA competition. In the past, ASA required a 44 Core, 375 compression ball. Now they allow a 52 Core, 300 compression ball. In simplified terms, the ball is now bouncier than in the past. ASA’s goal is to have the ball flex more than the bat and for ASA bats to perform more like USSSA bats.

Even with the new rule changes, not all ASA bats will be USSSA certified. Each bat is specific as to which leagues it is legal. For example, the new Triad from Miken is ASA certified, but is too hot for USSSA play. While the Z-2000 from Louisville Slugger is maxed out on the ASA test, but still able to pass the USSSA certification.

Discussion: Rating question

I believe you have 4 options. 50's Plus and 40's Plus. 50's Major and 40's Major but you are counted as a Plus chip on those teams. No more than 3 Plus chips on a Major teams roster at any one tournament.

There are often posts regarding rankings so I am curious. Is there one location on this website that has the rating process in full, in writing? Or is the ranking process all hearsay?

Discussion: WOULD YOU QUIT PLAYING?

Interesting question. Some years back our non senior league that uses USSSA bats went to the .52 for "safety" reasons. Yes the ball will do less damage to the human body but people were getting hit more often because of the bounciness of the ball. As far as hitting, pretty much everyone hated it and many teams and players left to play in a different league. The .52 ball is not a good combo with a broken in USSSA bat especially when it is warm to hot outside. I found that I was better off using a very stiff bat that was not quite broken in and was still able to hit it out with backspin but when using my normal gamer bat that was broken in I'd almost never get one out. The new ASA stamp bat performance is made for the .52 so I see no drop off in pop off of those bats when I play in an ASA league using the new ASA stamp bats. Back spin is your friend with the .52 ball to get it out. Very few people will hit this ball out on a line drive.

Geez. All the mentioning of "swing n miss" here has me scratching my head. If there are so many swing n misses the softball being played can not be that competitive. Therefore who cares and just have fun. lol

Discussion: first baseman charging the plate during delivery of the pitch

Is the catcher considered a "fielder"? I ask because often catchers try talking to hitters during a pitch and disturb the hitter in various ways like coughs or grunts. I've never seen an umpire in any association tell a catcher to shut up.
When I catch I am often talking to the ump or someone in the stands. Although this is not done to distract the batter I bet it bothers some.

Discussion: Thoughts on new Courtesy Runner rule

Ahhhhhhhhh okay. Totally different than what I thought it was. Not much of a change at all then.
I thought it was like other places that state a courtesy runner must replace the runner before the first pitch to the next batter. Otherwise there can be no courtesy runner for that runner at anytime thereafter.

Discussion: Thoughts on new Courtesy Runner rule

I like the new Courtesy Runner rule. It should help keep the game moving along and add a different strategy. The way my mind works I am thinking of possible situations teams may find a "workaround".

Assuming the team does NOT have any substitute players. What happens if a batter reaches first base safely then on next batted ball moves up to 2nd or 3rd base, reaching safely. Calls Time Out because he is "hurt". Can he have a Courtesy Runner due to injury or is he simply out because he can't run?

or

Assuming the team DOES have substitute players. What happens if a batter reaches first base safely then on next batted ball moves up to 2nd or 3rd base, reaching safely. Calls Time Out because he is "hurt" or the coach simply calls for a Substitute player to run because he is faster. Does this act in the same way teams usually use a substitute player for batting? The sub comes in to play, in this case run the bases....... then comes back out of the game for the same guy?

You will not like my answer but the only cure all is REST. Like doing absolutely nothing. I battled it 2 1/2 years choosing not to rest. Did the shots and all that. Finally a major SNAP where the last shot was administered forced me to rest. Low n behold both feet healed. Since rest is not an option I know people who could not rest and have cured it from mainly stretching. Multiple times a day. Stretch the low back, hammies, calves and of course your feet. There are some special "socks" you can wear when relaxing on the couch or even in bed. They slightly pull your toes back so your feet stay stretched out. Works wonders for when you first stand up..... almost no pain when you jump out of bed. They take a lot of getting used to though! Good Luck!

For those that are wanting facts or comparison as to whether 1-1 allows for more innings played SSUSA has these stats for 40's. They could compare innings played for 2016 which was 0-0 and 2017 which was 1-1. I doubt they want to put resources towards this though. Maybe someone with some spare time can volunteer to do it. lol

Discussion: Player Ejection

Last year in Palm Springs 40's a play shoved an umpire. The umpire ejected him. It was the second player ejected within a matter of minutes. Game was forfeited. Other team was all packed up except for the guys trying to protect the umpire..... The Turny director gets involved and 15 minutes later reinstated the ejected player who shoved the umpire and made the other team come back, get dressed and play the game. Oh and the best part is the turny director umped the rest of the game. It was the worst thing I have seen at any softball level I have played.

I left out the part that this is for the Black Ops bag. For the Special Ops bag cut the upper section pipes 2" longer since the bag is slightly taller.
