Discussion: use of High COR, Low Compression ball

I agree the ASA bats are designed for the 52/300 balls. Much better performance than with a senior bat.

The thing about injuries though is more people are getting hit with this ball. It bounces much more! The injuries won't be as severe though as with a harder compression ball. Pick your poison.

Discussion: Stepping out of the front of the box?

One other thing I've been curious about is which came first. The batters box size or the plate being a strike? I ask because if the batters box size came first then the plate came later the batter effectively lost some stride room.

Discussion: Stepping out of the front of the box?

I personally don't have a problem keeping my feet in the box because i am too uncoordinated to run around in the box while tying to swing at a moving object. But....... Playing at places that have a pre-painted batters box like at BLD the box always seems smaller than at other venues. Like a foot shorter! So if our batters box really is supposed to be 4x7 (Noted above in this thread) but BLD and others makes the box for the size of baseball which is 4x6 then I'd say SSUSA should not even bother enforcing the rule at these venues. I've never measured the batters box at these places that have it pre-painted. Has anyone else?

Discussion: Pitchers Mask

The danger in using one of the infielder type masks for pitching is a pitchers reflex sometimes is to turn his head. If this is done in an infielder mask you can get struck on the side of the head. Just my thoughts.

Yes. The more vendors the better!

Discussion: Runner hit by batted ball

I am impressed that any runner at any age is able to have both feet on the base and quickly "lean" out of the way and not fall down! A senior player doing this is amazing!

Discussion: How do you like the 1 n 1 count?

Thank you everyone who's responded. I was mainly curious because I wanted to know if it would be worth asking for a vote at the committee meeting to give 40's a foul. Right now 40's plays 1 n 1 no foul to give. Knowing that the other age groups are getting in 7 innings in most games I think its fair to say that 40's could go to 1 n 1 with a courtesy foul.

Discussion: How do you like the 1 n 1 count?

I figure since the SSUSA year is almost up I'd ask how everyone likes the 1 n 1 count. There was a lot of opinions on this when voted in.

Are you noticing an increase in complete games played compared to previous years?

Anyone that was against it.... Have you changed your mind or do you still not like it. Why?

For the 40's age bracket. Would you like to get rid of 1 n 1 no foul in favor of 1 n 1 with a foul? Or would you like to keep it with no foul? Why?

Any other input would be great too. Just curious.

Discussion: Major++

What is this Major Plus Plus thing about? This is the second post I've seen mentioning this ranking but I don't see it listed as a rating on this site.

Interesting. I just looked at the rankings and I did not see a new rating level added for SSUSA. Highest level I see is still Major Plus. Is it hidden somewhere?

Discussion: Kudos on new balls

Well the ball is new to most of us and to play in SSUSA. I love this ball compared to the old Stote/sock. It does still knuckle but doesn't seem to do so as drastically as the Rock. The outer layer didn't seem to feel as "squishy" as the Rock. No issues whatsoever with distance and pop. Thank you SSUSA for taking input from your customer base and implementing the upgraded ball.

Discussion: Calling High Pitches

I played this past weekend in Westerns. I personally encountered more than one umpire not call illegal on a high pitch while it was in the air on quite a few pitches. The illegal call was not made until the ball hit the strike mat and close to the strike mat. Two of these were for the third strike.

In this instance would you the players rather the ump keep to his no call of illegal (since it wasn't called while the ball was in the air) or see the batters strike basically overturned since illegal was not called until the ball landed?

Discussion: Calling High Pitches

Nancy- I've been call much worse things. HaHa

My point was if only the coach yells "illegal" or "high" to his batter and the umpire doesn't see it that way the batter may get confused and not swing. Causing the batter to take a strike and even worse.... a third strike. Therefore it is not good practice to yell something like this to the batter.

Discussion: New Ball

It is supposed to be in the high 90's this weekend in the Sacramento, CA area for Westerns. I look forward to trying out the new ball in that heat. I am curious if this ball will knuckle as much as the Rock does.

Discussion: Calling High Pitches

Calling out "illegal" should not be done. In SSUSA the ump must call it in the air, not once it hits the strike-mat. If the batters team yells out "illegal" and the ump does not, this can cause the batter to mix up who said it and not swing. If the ump did not see it as illegal the batter may strike out looking. For this reason I think it is better left to the batter to listen for the ump calling "illegal" while the ball is in the air. If the ump does not call it "illegal" due to pitch height while the ball is in the air the pitch can not be considered illegal once the ball lands.

Discussion: bounced pitch

I once had a team walk me after hitting a couple HRs. Instead of just intentionally walking me the pitcher thought it was funny to cuss at me then bounce and roll the ball. I managed to hit the bounced ball back up the box. Only time in my life I was able to intentionally blow up the box. Ha! It was great timing and well worth giving him a shin burger.

Discussion: Western Nationals field assignments

I too hate that most of the time the hotel deals offered on this site are expired by the time we have filed assignments. I feel very dishonest booking at multiple places then canceling. I think of the company who is planning on my reserved business. I also think of the people I may be taking a room from. I just don't have it in me to do something like that. It's one thing if something comes up in life and I have to cancel, my conscious can live with that. But to plan to cancel, screwing other people........ I just don't have it in me to do that to people. My two cents.

MASKEDMAN- Love the $200.00 walkin stick comment! You may be on to something though. These bats do not come with a warranty. So maybe to make the bat last longer some want more walks? :)

I agree! Very well ran turny. Every game seemed to be on time or even ahead of schedule. Also bracket times were given out in a very timely manner.
