Adrian - Not sure SSUSA ever put them to M+ (Ratings said they were moved to M in 2016, they were 55 at the time and we played them at AAA). They were made Major Gold by ISSA but don't believe they were ever "asked" to move to M+ by SSUSA but I could be wrong.

And I am confused, thought you guys were moved to Major last year after your finish in Vegas? That said, agree Swarm is a very tough M team, not sure they play enough in SSUSA to get moved to M+ unless they go to Vegas and do well like y'all did last year.

Ralph - you may want to define your definition of a C Division team. In Senior ball, usually is AA, AAA, Major or Major+ (ISSA uses Major Gold). I believe USSSA Senior has Conference as a reference hence my confusion. Good luck!

bman - BAT POLICY is listed above. Believe as long as it has a BPF that is legible; basically any bats manufactured before 2021 must be stamped 1.21 bpf or less (USSSA is usually stamped 1.20bpf). If you have ANY questions about your specific bat, you can always call or email home office rather than "show up and hope it's legal". Hope this help

Sorry, don't know that info Bruce.

And yes, Kevin both the creator of the A.D. Spinner (I mean he is going by "tattooball" lol) as well as a contributor to the Baden Senior Fire.

Discussion: Baden Senior Softball

Bruce - His name is Kevin, assume he will be on here at some point but I can help a little based on reading what he wrote (and knowing Kevin).

Your answers are: he has been helping Baden with their design; yes; original covers were synthetic, sadly hit ok but picked up dirt quickly making them harder to see; (answered this question last year) Dave the one's you are hitting are synthetic, they are always a little behind composite like the Tattoo. I will say all of our testing is still right there. We do have composites coming soon. So basically he said above that all new balls when ordered would have the new composite cover but now there is a question of the existing supply of balls from last year that can't be "sent back".

And for future reference, you can click on a person's name in BOLD and will bring you to all of their comments (how I found exactly when he answered Dave). Hopefully this helps.

Happy 4th to all!

Lunchbox is from Short Porch Softball: https://shortporchbaseballcompany.com/product-category/bats/

Agree with T2, Dave V has a lot of reviews on Short Porch, Onyx and Ca. Bat Co bats (among others), his site is here: http://www.seniorsoftballbatreviews.com

Discussion: Team Names and Rating

HSquared - can answer the 1st question as we did this, YES, you have to pay the annual Team Registration fee for each different age division you enter. So they paid for 60M+ and now have to pay for 55M UNLESS they decide to ONLY play as 55M. Also, you can now add 55M players on that team who might not be old enough to play 60.

Hope this helps, sure Dave will get to the other 2 and correct me if I have made a mistake.

Discussion: SSUSSA classification

crobar - If you search under TOURNAMENTS > RULES you will find Team Rating Index. That graph shows the levels of what your rating would allow if you know your rating. If you are rated ONLY as a 60M+ player, then yes you could play Major at 50 (even AAA). My suggestion is ALWAYS call the home office to make sure what your current rating is.

And across the board (AA, AAA, M) you are allowed 3 players with 1 higher rating on a team for that given tournament unless you are playing "exhibition" (I would check on this one with home office as well).

Hope this helps.

As best I know and have seen, they do not except the teams that won in Vegas, they are allowed to compete at the level they won before moving up.

Discussion: Mask requirement when using pitching screen

Good answer Bruce! :-)

Dee - SSUSA does not REQUIRE a pitching screen in their tourneys hence the reason that language doesn't exist the way you expect it might (not even sure they allow it? I certainly have not seen one in play in any tourney I have been to 60 and under). We use a screen in our league as well, placed 8 - 10 feet in front of pitching rubber, and like Bruce, we can pitch around and field a ball if it's close enough or get behind the screen if that is the safer option based on who is hitting! lol

Simple answer, yes Scuba.

Usually happens with odd number of teams in division (say 3) OR they use your division to get a play in game for another.

Your example is EXACTLY what I would do to get play in and guaranteed games in (the 5 makes it a little trickier) and believe it is applied here as well, Dave would confirm that for sure next time he comes on.

Their def is the same as most, means if you play every team in your division PRIOR to elimination (ex. 4 teams in your division so you would play 3 play in games, 1 vs each team then double elim). I have also seen where with older groups where they have 6 - 8 teams, they play each other 1 time and best record wins. I am sure someone will come on and state it better than I but that is basically what it means.

Discussion: Pinch Hitter

Thx BJ.

I was thinking that according to OP, the manager realized EXACTLY what k man described (in a panic), he wanted to substitute for the pitcher (possibly a weak hitter) and then realized he might lose both pitchers? So my question: Pitcher B is substituted for Pitcher A in top of 5th, bottom of 5th Hitter A bats for Pitcher B. Once that at bat is completed, can either Pitcher A or Pitcher B come back into the game legally? BEFORE the substitute at bat, I have a legal reentry of Pitcher A for Pitcher B but assume that once Hitter A completes his at bat Pitcher B can reenter but now Pitcher A is burned (i.e. and Pitcher B has to finish the game without another legal substitute, meaning if you have another player, than Pitcher B would also be burned if substituted again by Hitter A or another Player that hasn't been in the game yet)?

Discussion: Feedback

Sadly B30, this will continue because of smaller tourney's low overhead. With 6 teams, 1 guy can organize and run the tourney and still make money (1 day, teams don't have to pay hotel fees, etc). They use better balls because they can (only need a few dozen or have teams "hit their own"). Utrip has been trying to figure out the Senior game for a while now but I believe small pockets of TD's are doing what you described above in CA and TX and now AZ. FL plays tourneys in the FHC I believe twice a month so none of this is "new", just most 40's probably came up playing USSSA because most other associations are not strong nationally (ASA/USA or NSA). So been wondering when these guys would really start going after the 40's because those guys work and are used to weekend tourneys (Sat/Sun) where they don't miss time, this is also something that most SSUSA or ISSA tourneys don't do much of if at all.

I know that Tim has made tremendous strides with the 40's program in Mid-Atlantic the past few years and would like to believe he has talked about this with Home Office. ISSA's 40's program is almost non-existent honestly, don't believe I have ever seen more the 4 teams at any recent tourneys even Smoky which is one of their biggest.

Great info and excellent points but realistically, not sure how much will change (and I love this game as well, def not a Utrip guy, ASA was still going pretty good when I was younger).

My 2 cents. Happy Thanksgiving to all and wishing you all a safe and happy holiday season!

DJ - OK, so good question and I assume someone with specific SSUSA rules can state the actual rule for you but my contribution based on my experience playing is that this is NOT Major League Baseball meaning that while it's very nice that the team announces things (batter, CR, and pinch hitters) but until either the batter steps into the box and takes a pitch, they can do whatever they want (same as a CR announced but only legal when they touch the bag for teammate they are running for).

Some teams are very organized and do this stuff without issue but we are old guys/gals playing and we aren't perfect which allows the stipulation to announce but changes can be made until they take a pitch or stand on a base.

And I don't believe there is a rule where a player that enters a game has to bat before being replaced.

I have been wrong before but if I was umpiring that would be my interpretation.

Johnny23 - USUALLY yes if said player has history with your team from past or IF said player plays with your team prior to 2023 WC. BEST answer is to call home office or send an email with said player and your question to Ratings person so you know for sure.

Good luck!

Understood. We are old men stuck in our old ways. LOL

Simply let the league know that rule has been changed and dead ball appeals are now verbal but have to be stated as explained above by BJ ("I would like to challenge that x runner left y base early"). Pretty simple and again, another rule that was changed to help speed the game along.
