Discussion: Wondering about your team name; especially the unusual ones.

I know that many of the teams are named after sponsors, donors, etc. But just wondering perhaps about some of the more unusual or out of the ordinary team names. How were they decided upon?

My team, Strykers, came about during the first Iraq war. I was watching the news and the Army's "Striker Brigade" was featured. I, being a veteran, admire and respect our military greatly. I thought, Strykers would be a great team name, and so we are.

Anyone care to share?
OKI stood for Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana. That is state where the original players on that team were from. At the end we did have players from Michigan and Illinois.
Back in my fast pitch days, the team I was on really didn't care if we won or lost. We just wanted to have fun and go out after the games to celebrate.

We were called "DILLIGAS" meaning "Does it look like I give a s_ _ _ ?"

Ho
Steve... We picked or chose the Name MONARCHS from the Kansas City Monarchs. After some reading, and all the History behind the Team..Monarchs was everyone's choice....mainly because of Jackie Robinson. Back in the Day, the Kansas City Monarchs was one of the Stronger if not the Strongest Team in the Negro Baseball League. Dedication..Determination and Discipline. They played,"Not for the Money, Nor for the Fame,Just for the Love of the Game". I would like to say when we First started, the Team consisted of ONLY Active or Retired Military..(Army..Marines..Navy and Air Force).
It is a good idea to make sure your team name is something different. We are the CHICAGO Gray Sox. Had tourney a few years back when two teams just named the Gray Sox had reservations at the same motel. Staff thought they had dlb booked and canceled one of the sets. We got there 1st, got the rooms and the other team had to go looking as the motel was sold out. Thus we made sure Chicago came 1st.
Arizona Chain Link....we don't hit many home runs, but we do bang them off the fence once in a while.
Bad News Beers. Name says it all. Co-ed team that played at Fort Belvoir Va.
Thanks to all who responded--great stories. But, the award so far goes to Eurskine; what a great story, Erk. It has fired me up!
Hope we can hear from many others.
how about a coed team called cleats and cleavage. I think the name speaks for itself.
I had a team called "TailGators" .......
We were fairly good at softball but GREAT at Tail Gateing.

In Tulsa Ok at the time.
Managed and pitched for a slow-pitch team in Detroit back in the 70's call the "QUABA FLYERS". Quaba stood for "quick and brutal annihilation". If memory serves, we won our league but never ran over or dominated anyone. We just thought it was a cool name back then.
Like Mario, played on a team from 3 states also, Oregon, Arizona, and California, ORCAZUM. Played out of Palm Springs.
Played in one tournament, the Gold Glove in Phoenix, played well above our heads, a once in a lifetime level for the entire team, got moved up right after that 1st tourney where we never could have competed, and that was the end of ORGAZUM. Disbanded. Most guys went back to just playing local league ball.
Guess it's safe to say we were a "one night stand."
Desperados the founding members met in the early 70's in the county detention center
Back in the nineties a team called LAGNAF. They said it stood for Lets All Get Naked and well you can fill in the last word.

But they got into a Church tournament and said it stood for Lets all gather nuts and Fruits
Played against a team in the 80s from Austin named YATYAS which of course was You Ain't Texas You Ain't S!#%!
My put together team for local tourneys. Studs N Duds. On any given day you can be either one.
Webbie, there is a coed team here, and the men are firefighters. It is called Pitches and Hose.

Back in 1998, Coachie and I were at a senior world series in Memphis, and it was extremely hot, and games were way behind. We were in the parking lot late at night waiting for our game when I made a comment to him about all the guys out there. This was where FOG came from, and it can stand for whatever you like.

Glenn, thanks for inviting us to that tournament.
Sonoma County Crush, not because we crush the ball but because we live in wine country and the harvesting process is referred to as "Crush"
I once played on a team in Irvine,Ca called the "Whiz Kids". We werent fast but there was some beer drinking ...........
We played on a Sunday ASA Rec league for almost 20 years on a team called " Sultans of Swat ". Our coach grew up in New York before moving to Calif. Needless to say he was a huge Yankee fan. The team stopped playing only a few years ago as guys were hitting 50 and started playing senior ball and we were having problems fielding a team on Sunday afternoons.
Back in the 80's I was on a team called the "Mulewhippers"

Based out of a town known as the "Cowboy Capitol of the World"...we thought it was fitting.
Our league team in Chico is called Runner Blue. Enough said?
Back in the day I played on a festival type that played on off weekends. We were a team made up of tournament players from different teams--we went out to have fun. Don't know how it came about but we called ourselves H.L.A.P. It stood for Hung Like A Pony. One game we were playing a christian church team and they asked us what the initials on our jerseys stood for. We all froze and looked at each other. "should we tell them?" was the question. One of our guys--a real quick-witted type, said "sure I'll tell them". It means "Hit Like A Pro"
Mulewhipper, one of your boys, Hoffman played a few years with us. I remember rushing back from a NCSSA tourney to catch our game and had a Ultra II sticking out of the bag and he was asking about it. I told him in another year he would be able to use it and at that time he says, " I'm not playing in that ". He had no idea the competitiveness that exists in senior softball. You can't get him off the field now.
Jaf St. Just another f...... softball team. Used it for "throw together" tournaments for several years.
My teams new name is "Sons of Pitches." Great name until the other teams gives us a cheer after the game and say something else
Garocket, you talk about the team that was called LAGNAF. I played for that team. Wow that was a long time ago, I kinda forgot all about that team. Thanks for the the memories. What tournament did we run into you at. We used to play every Labor Day in a national tournament someplace in the south.
Webster you forgot about Big Al's pizza parlor and mortuary
I have named a couple teams because of Coachie. We had a coed team that I named EZ GO after John Gannon's golf cart at Metro Stadium that Coachie had to fix constantly due to the abuse that cart suffered. He started a new men's team and wanted a different name than his well known ACs. I was thinking about his initials and came up with Bat Attitude. He assembled a very talented group that came from players that did not know each other. They could not get along; so I named them too well. Coachie disbanded the team after four tournaments.

A men's team was having trouble with a new name recently and asked for help. I gave them Brokebat Softball.

Something unique on the ACs team was the players' last names. We had 2 Longs, a Short, and a Whyde.

We played on a coed team that the coach did not figure out a name for. The park used his last name, Firehammer.

Did I mention that I love this game?
Best team I played on as a younger man was sponsored by the Dirty Butts Bar.
Good one-Lewis-and remember we morphed the big Al's Pizza Parlor and Mortuary into Big Al's Heimers? Mixed reviews, some people fell down laughing and some were offended.
I always believed that if you named your team "Forfeit" you could get some easy wins when opposing teams viewed the bracket.
The first team I ever played on in my early 20s was called the Nads....go Nads!
There is a team that I should probably give a shout out to. When Coachie and Rabbit went down with Mert and Ed for their first senior event, we met up with teams to play scrimmage (what I called spring training) with during the week before playing their first SSUSA tournament that weekend. One of those teams was from Canada, and they were quite a bit older than these two new 50s because they made us play 11 like them, and we were not doing so well at that. I cannot remember if they all moved to Florida, or if they were snowbirding, but their name was Sons of Beaches.

Coachie is my FOG. INDY stood for I (Coachie), Y (You which is me), and ND are my first 2 initials (or maybe Notre Dame during NCAA games if you are a fan). I root for any team from Indiana. I also like the name Fat Nancy's of course, but I cannot seem to get them to come here. So maybe I need to go up there and see that NY FOG.
In Little Rock, back in the 80's, I played with a team called Biohazard. Most of the players, including a couple of PhD's, worked at the National Center for Toxicological Research at the Pine Bluff Arsenal where, among other things, they stored nerve gas.
Seems like a million years ago,an Atlanta team were the Dirty Dozen and a restaurant team was the Beer Mug.
Played on a team with my brothers once and our name was "BullsHitters" the person that made our uniforms capitalized the wrong letter and we were warned that we could wet our shirts to games.
I played on a team called BYE. Which what we basically were every week.
