May 23, 2021 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Total Knee Replacement.."A Softball Athlete's 3 month Video Diary" Sm 165 I had a right ankle replacement in Dec, 2019 and a left knee replacement in Nov, 2020. Ankle was 6-8 weeks before I was permitted to apply full weight on it. I was playing ball 3-4 months after the ankle and then the same with the knee. Both surgeries did wonders for my quality of life, and that means playing ball. I'll never be as fast as I once was and the ankle doc wants me to get a runner once I reach base (which I sometimes don't do), but it's made a world of difference playing defense. I am now pain free in both joints! |
July 10, 2020 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Appeals I know things have been real crazy out there, but I was wondering if anything has been done regarding individual team rating appeals? |
April 30, 2020 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: New Virus-Regulations Playing the game of softball, one which we love so dearly, may be the least of the problems that this virus has caused. I see more of a hotel and restaurant issue than actually playing. Do we not allow two or three players in a room? Can the restaurants now seat teams for meals? How about arrangements for travel to the tournament and then to the tournament games? Are local governments going to allow the tournaments? These are things that I'm sure senior softball is dealing with and trying to iron out in order to get us back on the field. |
April 16, 2020 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Tournament Schedule Update Thank you |
April 16, 2020 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Tournament Schedule Update Has there been any change regarding SSUSA's tournament re-start for mid-May? Many states are still on a "stay at home" direction and New York has just extended their lockdown for another month. New York is working in conjunction with all our bordering states. All our fields as well as indoor sports complexes are closed which means no BP or softball related activities. Just wondering. |
March 10, 2020 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Ratings My apologies to the SSUSA staff for venting in such a matter. I will definietly call. |
March 9, 2020 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Ratings I am frustrated with Senior Softball's rating procedure. It seems that there are inequities in following the guidelines established for moving teams up in ratings and not all teams are treated the same as per your guidelines. For example, our team won the Winter Nationals three years ago with a +7.0 run differential. Although it was our first tournament win in years and one game skewed the run differential total, we were moved up. This year a number of teams had run differentials of over +9 runs per game and there have been no change of ratings. Are there other mitigating factors involved? Do the number of teams entered by one person or organization effect this policy? In addition, how can a team be rated prior to the Winter Nationals, win the tournament, earn a TOC berth and now can no longer be found on the team ratings list? What is going on? |
Dec. 16, 2019 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Las Vegas 2019 We are putting together a 75 team that would like to play in Las Vegas. Is there a qualiying tournament we must enter to be invited? Almost all of us are on a 70's team and don't want to leave that team during the season. What is the procedure? |
Dec. 16, 2019 Willy8 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: 65s to 1-1 or not 1-1 As a 70's player, I have used the 1-1 count with a curtesy foul in our leagues for at least the last 25 years. If going to 1-1 count means we get to play a full 7 innings, and I assume it will, our team is all for it. The time limit and getting to play only 5-6 innings was hard to take, especially since we are paying big bucks for travel, hotel, equipment, food, entry fee, etc. We would like our games to go the full seven |
Dec. 10, 2019 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Ratings Any teams moving up after the Winter Nationals in Ft. Myers? In the 70's, two teams were undefeated in their divisions. One team won their division by an average of 9.8 runs and another team won their division by an average of 10.00 runs per game. Seems like some movement would be warranted. |
April 16, 2018 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Divisions Thanks for the input. It was just a thought. |
April 16, 2018 Willy8 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Divisions Has SSUSA considered reducing the number of divisions in the 70 age group? Major Plus teams can chose players from all over and thus must be in a separate category. However, there are approximately 17-AA, 86-AAA and 38 major teams (very few on the east coast). By eliminating the AA category and with some adjustments you could come up with 71-AAA teams and 70-Major teams which would make for some nice tournaments in each of these two categories throughout the country. Just a thought. |
Jan. 30, 2018 Willy8 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Forfeit or not? SSUSA...My main point in the runs against is if that without that one non completed inning against Vios, our run differential would be +27 for an average of +4.5, a huge difference in average. In addition, one of our 10 run victories was against a AA team. It would seem to me that since we were competitive against The Bostonians and DAF/Global Trailers, and could have easily lost any one of those three one run games, maybe Senior Softball should look to down grade the teams we beat by ten runs to AA, increasing the number of teams in AA, making that division more competitive and leave us where we can play teams like The Bostonians even up. I can only ask that SSUSA take a closer look into our rating change. |
Jan. 30, 2018 Willy8 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Forfeit or not? SSUSA...CC Medical Services vs. Vios in the 70 AAA. The score was recorded as 32-11 but the 7th inning was never completed and should have been recorded as a forfeit (according to the rule Book). Going into the 7th inning, the score was 15-11 in favor of CC Medical Services, a very competitive game. We were ahead thanks to their pitchers walking 10 batters in the first six innings, but things exploded in the top of the 7th inning when they walked nine batters, including 5 in a row. We did win our bracket (our first tournament win, other than two team tourneys, in six years), but three of the six games were by one run. That one inning threw the whole rating process out of whack. |
Jan. 30, 2018 Willy8 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Forfeit or not? At the Winter Nationals this past November, our team was playing a close game (+4 run differential) when we came to bat in the top of the 7th inning. During the top of the 7th inning, the opposing pitchers, there were two, lost the strike zone and walked 9 batters, gave up numerous hits and had a few misplays in the field as we scored 17 runs. They were only able to record one out when they conceded the game by walking off the field before the inning was completed. Is that considered a forfeit or does the score get recorded even though the inning was not completed and the home team did not get a turn at bat in the bottom of the 7th? And should those runs be counted in the run differential for rating purposes? That one inning, if the runs were allowed to be counted, raised our run differential +3 runs per game. Is this correct? |
