Discussion: Can you please update the brackets for tournament...

Banditos180,

Thats a fight you're not going to win. It's been addressed here hundreds of times and brought to their attention that every single other association has live updates during games and they say it can't be done. Ironic that EVERY other smaller association makes it happen but ssusa won't

Discussion: Batter out of the box

TitanHD,

I have been told by SSUSA HQ specifically Ant that no player is allowed to play for more than 2 teams in the same age group in a season. If a player is on a roster for example at 50 AAA buy never even plays a tourney for them but then is released from that team and he plays for another team that year he's not allowed to play for anyone else the whole season

The scenario that happened to a guy we tried to pick up was he agreed to play for a team in MI and they put him on a roster their team roster but he never played a tourney for them. He asked to be released from the team when he realized they were only going to play 2 tourneys all year. He got on another roster and didn't feel he was being used properly and was basically just being used as a runner. Him and that manager came to an agreement that he would he released. It was then he found out from Ant that the only team he could play for for the rest of the year was the team he was just being released from according to SSUSA rules that no play may be released from 2 rosters in the same age group and still be eligible to play for another team. Apparently it's supposed to prevent team hopping but it's rarely enforced from what we've seen.

It's ironic that Dave used that guys pics, it's been assumed by bascially every Midwest team that SSUSA couldn't actually see that guy to know he exists considering he plays on average of at least 6 different teams all in the 50s division every year to the point his nickname is Rent-A-Catcher... Now that there is actually video proof of him existing and was posted by someone who works at SSUSA HQ they have no argument that NOBODY plays for more than 2 teams in a season... Thanks for sharing Dave.

Discussion: Tie Breaker Rule

Rob64,

Until Associations start holding teams to accountable to play in the divisions they've earned nothing will change. Sadly some teams would rather play against lesser talent than equal or better.

Discussion: Tie Breaker Rule

Played in a non SSUSA event this weekend and had something come up we've never seen before.

4 team pod with 2 pool play games so it's not a round robin. One team went 2-0 and one went 0-2. The two 1-1 teams played each other. team 1 gave up 33 runs while team 2 gave up 42 runs but team 2 beat team 1 in their head to head matchup.

When seeding came out the team that gave up 33 runs was 3 seed while the team that gave up 43 was the 2 seed. The director said that when there are ONLY 2 teams that are tied head to head matchup is used instead of runs against. If 3 or more teams are tied then it reverts back to runs given up.

There wasn't a single player there that had ever heard that rule before and none of us could understand how head to head trumps runs given up. Doesn't seem right that the entire rest of the games are decided by one set of rules and then 2 teams are governed by a different set of rules. You are basically throwing out what happened in the other game. I can see if it was round robin that head to head would be used as a tie breaker but can't see how it's not standard for everyone to use runs given up except 2 teams.

Can someone make sense of that to us because the director said that happens in every association and I've never seen it before. The only ones he could find to agree with him were umpires, not a single player.

Discussion: Player Classification

Thought I saw this talked about earlier this year but can't find it now. I thought I had read that if for example a 50AAA player was also playing 55 Major he would then be classified as a Major player in both 55 and 50s. Is that true?

Discussion: Injury Rule

Had a guy go down due to injury this weekend in the 2nd inning of semifinal game. We didn't have a sub and were told we had to take an out for the whole game which I always understood to be the rule. Had 2 different people tell me since then that only the first time through the lineup is an out. What is the official rule on this?

Discussion: Midwest Championships This Past Weekend

Can we get some clarifications as to what happened this weekend in Wentzville and what is going to be done about it?

Fridays games were delayed due to weather and we were given updates as to when the games would finally start and were told they would be 45 minutes or 5 innings whichever came first then the open. When we get there we're told they are now 40 minute games even though when we checked in the director said 45.

It rained again Friday night and seemingly whoever takes care of the fields flat out refused try to even get the fields ready to play for Saturday even after the umpires offered to do it themselves if they unlocked gates and provided them with squeegees and field dry. The umpires told us the 1 and only person that came out to the fields said they didn't want their fields ruined by playing on them and their guys refused to come in on a Saturday to work the fields.

The fields the rest of the tourney were played at managed to get their fields up and ready and played all day on Saturday while we were sporadically lead along via text with virtually no communication from our site director because she wasn't given any directions. Yet somehow some of the team Managers that were supposed to be playing at our complex that had nothing to do so they were watching games at the fields that were made ready were told by that site director that our entire tourney was canceled for the weekend and save ourselves money and just go home.

Then after sitting around for 11 hours waiting to get some sort of factual information we get a text at 8 00 PM at night telling us in fact we are playing the next morning and what time. Only to find out our double elimination tourney has now turned into a single elimination game with 1 team that finally had enough of the circus and just went home and never showed. Some games and some fields had 2 umpires and some had 1 and there was no rhyme or reason as to who got 2 and who got 2. The 50AAA was the only division to get reduced to a single elimination as far as I know and I think it was the 55 or 60s that were also at that complex played that played double elimination and the managers there were complaining that they would rather just do the single elimination so they could put the shit show behind them and head home.

We had a guy get hurt and tear his calf muscle and couldn't walk on Sunday and we asked if the grounds crew could put him in the back of the cart they and drive him to his car and were just given a flat no we don't do that from the director. She never made any attempt to talk to anyone to see if they could drive him out there.

Almost $700 in tourney fees for a guaranteed 5 game tourney and we get to play 8 innings on Friday and 2 games on Sunday while the rest of tourney got their full 5 games. There needs to be at the very least some explinations given and some money refunded to those that didn't get anywhere near their 5 games. They knew the storms were coming in Friday night and Saturday night and no attempt was done to play games Friday night before the storms came in. The other complex played games until midnight to get games in before the rain.

A's, you have been registered as AAA in SSUSA since April of 2021.. This certainly can't be the first time you've shown up to a SSUSA event and played as a AAA team knowing you're supposed to be registered as a Major team.

Midwest Championship isn't for a few more weeks, are you predicting the drama already? LOL.
Assuming you meant ISA Worlds.
Also assuming you are talking about the A's Reloaded team bringing Major+ players, we heard the same thing.

We didn't see any bats get thrown out nor did we see a single player called out for being out of the batters box even though we were warned by a few umpires that it would happen. We did see some good officiating and some terrible calls by the same umpire over and over again.

We did see some umpires enforce the pitchers can't wear shin guards while batting but most didn't enforce it or care when it was brought to their attention. The same ump who kept making bad calls tried to explain it away by saying if the abin guards are being held on by velcro as opposed to hooks or clasps the rules change but he didn't know which was they were allowed or disallowed. Not did he try to find out when pressed for an answer.

There were far less HRs hit this year over years passed even though the teams were way lower than normal and very low humidity. We were assured the new ISA Baden Fire ball was as good as the ISA Hot Dot they have hit in the past and in everyone's opinion wre spoke to its not in the same league.

Fields were in pretty good shape and gave times through early Saturday ran pretty much on time

Do we know which complex each age and division will be playing at? Kind of hard to book hotels when the complexes are 40+ miles apart, would prefer to book closer to where we are playing

Discussion: TOC 5 GG

I can't find the post anymore it was probably removed but there was a post about the fact that earlier in the year all the TOC had been moved to 4 GG games to keep the costs down. Then all the managers were sent an email asking whether or not they/their teams would like to keep it at the 4 games for the original posted pricing or bump it back to 5 games like it's always been but at a larger cost. If I remember correctly the vote was in favor of 5 games at the higher cost and then all the TOC would then remain 5 GG. If that's the case why is Columbus IN this weekend only a 4 GG?

Discussion: Tournament Registration

Wouldn't it be much easier for SSUSA to set up online payments for tournaments, is this something that is being discussed? If not it should be, it wouZld make it easier on everyone all around. We are already getting charged 4% fees for using CC if we call in to register and give our CC info over the phone.

It would cut down on phone calls, snail mail into the main office and steam line everything. That way teams would have the option to pay via CC or even a cash app like PP or Venmo or Zelle instead of having to transfer money from team accounts like those cash apps.

They could then implement it being "live" registration like most other associations have so you can see who has already registered to play that event instead of having to wait until registration is closed and then when and if the registered teams get posted.
