Sept. 25, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Bad experience for a Class Tournament - Worlds The home plate umpire should have been looking at nothing else but the runner coming home to ensure he crossed legally - that is part of our sport. Right or wrong, fair & square, like it or hate it makes no difference here. We cannot have rules that are only applied when it is convenient. If that had been the 5th run in the second inning, I guarantee you it would have been overturned. What would be your answer if the winning run was on third with 1-out and a fly ball was caught at the fence and the runner left early and scored the "winning" run and the celebration ensues and the umpires didn't allow an appeal? There was no play there either. We should not be picking and choosing when it is ok and not ok to enforce our rules. Telling teams that lose to "Go back as a team and work on the real reasons for the loss" is not an appropriate answer in my opinion. |

Aug. 22, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Players with the same number on a team We played in San Clemente this past weekend and there were a few players who were wearing generic shirts in lieu of a uniform with a number. I don't recall anyone saying a word, we certainly did not. However, we keep book for both teams and also keep up with who the CR is, so numbers do help with both of those circumstances. In the larger TOC events, we would simply ask for the tape thing or similar so we can keep up. We would not make it something for a cheap out or ejection. |
Aug. 15, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: POSTING ALL SCORES IN 2017 How about the Western National Championships that were before the Eastern? What does everyone think about the new way of posting scores - illegible scans of handwritten brackets? |

May 10, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Homerun - Hit and Sit Mulewhipper - From Section 4 of the 2017 USSSA rulebook: Sec. 4.A BATTER-BASE RUNNER IS OUT under the following circumstances. G.When, after hitting a fair ball, and while the ball is still live, the batter-runner carries the bat and touches first base or runs beyond first base while carrying the bat. Note: If this action results in the third out of an inning, no runs shall score. Note that it does say "while the ball is still live" In a hit and sit situation, the ball is not live. |
April 25, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: VEGAS SW CHAMPIONSHIPS Yes - tourney was well run, no complaints there... However, it is a little funny that the one big complaint I heard all weekend was how "easy" it was to hit HR's! After all the complaining we all do about the ball we use everywhere else, this past weekend was complaining more about the ball being too good and too many HR's. I know BLD is HR friendly anyway, but the balls were flying out on all the fields being used... |

April 17, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Vegas 50M+ Bracket Am I reading the bracket wrong as it appears that the Saturday 9am losers are scheduled to play each other at 9:30am? |
March 31, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: You make the call I'm pretty sure the rule in U-Trip/GSL for hitting the bats - or gloves or any other equipment outside the dugout area - is player closest to home is out. The same applies in reverse - if the team in the field throws a ball that hits THEIR equipment, each runner is awarded an extra base. I believe SSUSA applies the same rules. That's why you should not put your gloves on the railings in front of your dugout.... |
March 29, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Trump Stote Softball Concerns Guys, the answer is simple - more tourneys in Vegas! Otherwise, until the most ironclad contract in history is up, all this complaining by the players actually having to use the ball is wasted. We can hope, however, that based on our input, the next ball contract will take our suggestions into the process. BTW - Dbax - no longer banned in Arizona? |
March 27, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Thanks SSUSA Yes! It was nice to be able to keep up over the weekend and to see the results posted this morning - Thanks! |
March 22, 2017 bond_171513 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Get rid of Major + I have been playing 50M for 2 years and have always been striving for my team and myself to be better with the goal to be M+. I would NOT want M+ to go away. Why would any of us want it to go away? Something to strive for IMO. And, if you are a M team "just playing for fun", wouldn't you WANT there to be a M+? And...M+ can play in any of the tourneys...yes, they have to give the equalizer, but that is part of the deal. Maybe the only change that can - or should - be made, is a compromise of 7 HR's and 6 runs an inning. Maybe more of them would play the other tourneys... |

Dec. 9, 2016 bond_171513 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Sun rule nickname: Here are "some" of your direct quotes: "And your right I do take personal responsibility for my health and well being because its obvious the tournament directors don't give a damn about it and make the right decision. PLAY BALL!!!!!!! If you need me i'll be in the air conditioning inside the snack bar watching.." "At what temps would senior softball call off a tournament in Texas, Arizona and Nevada, and possibly southern California, or would the almighty dollar out weigh peoples health and lives and well being?" But yet you say to Whipper Snapper "you need to adjust to the heat in summer"? Are you for or against player safety? It is hard to tell. If you are indeed worried about health and well being then you would understand why some would argue against the pitcher being blinded by the sun. It is a health and well being issue. We may not all agree on the Sun Rule and/or the removing of same, but I think we are all concerned about safety. |
Nov. 30, 2016 bond_171513 | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: substitution Just curious about the wording on the original question..there is a difference between last out and last batter. It is the last "batter" - not the last "out" - correct? FYI - this came up in Phoenix and the FD and umpire both said last batter when the last "out" was the runner thrown out trying to advance on the last "batter's" hit. |
Nov. 21, 2016 bond_171513 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: UP TO DATE TOURNAMENT SCORES Kudos to SSUSA for the fine job of updating the brackets so quickly - much appreciated! |
Oct. 16, 2016 bond_171513 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Speed up rules Staff - I think we would all agree that the umpire can only do so much to speed up the game...however there are a couple of little things that can be done. 1.I have been in many games where a FD or TD will come talk to the umpire for several minutes between multiple innings - unless there is a rules question or a protest of some sort, this can be stopped. If there is another valid reason for a conversation, which I am sure there is, then OUR time should be stopped. 2.Stop allowing practice pitches after the first inning, any practice pitch by ANY player should be ball 1 to the first batter. Additional infractions could be the first batter is automatically awarded first base. I believe this may be a rule already, but not enforced. 3. Allow 2 on deck batters, I have yet to see anyone injured when this is allowed. If either on-deck batter interferes with a play being made, then the umpire can rule accordingly. These are small things I know, but they could possibly add up to getting to an extra inning. |
