Right! I've never been hit in the face, but I will NEVER pitch without one. (not to mention the protection in certain other areas....)

Discussion: Russell Road Softball Complex & Arroyo Grande Complex

Arroyo has grass infields with the dirt cutout similar to a baseball field. Russell is all dirt infield. Both are well maintained and good to play on.

Discussion: Rocky Mountain

Agreed! Really enjoyed playing in this tourney, hope more teams try and fit this into their schedule next year. The weather was awesome and the fields were mostly great - I echo the need for more water on the infields. The 320' fences make it a true HR, even in the thin air. really enjoyed the break on Friday for the skills contests - that is a nice addition to a tourney.

This was the first senior tourney I can remember where water was not provided in the dugouts. Hopefully, that will be addressed for next year.

Discussion: Ratings

There would appear to be a reluctance to move teams - other than the 40's - to a + rating. Unless I misread, in all of 50/55/60/65 there was 1 team re-rated to Major+ at the end of July (in 55).

Dbax - if you sort the list by the date, you will see ratings from every month of the year. We have them in the 50's as well. The ones from June/July may not be due to the review process? You'll notice many changes on July 15, 2015 and December 16, 2015. Those would appear to be from the review process last year.

Discussion: International Tie Breaker

Staff - this is the wording from the Umpires page - would seem to indicate that he could NOT be subbed for until reaching 3rd base. Are we interpreting this wrong?

International Tie Breaker Rule
• Each team will start with a runner on second base.
• The runner must be the last person who batted the previous inning, whether they made the third out or not.
• No substitute or courtesy runner may be used until that runner has advanced to 3rd base.
• Should the proper runner be unable to continue due to injury, an out is declared, and the next previous out becomes the proper
runner.
•All International Tie Breaker innings are open innings.

Alan - so this would be the senior version of the Freak12? That bat is one of the best bats I've ever swung.

Discussion: bat rolling

Gary - I have seen the same thing at USSSA tourneys - I have a Jeff Hall 27.5 that I can say with all certainty has not been rolled or shaved and it failed the compression test after about 500 swings. Had to put it back in the car for worlds! I think the bat manufacturers are trying too hard to have the latest "hot out of the wrapper" product that is right on the line right out of the wrapper. Lot's of us now have a "league" bat and a "tournament" bat.

Discussion: teams looking for players

Personally, I love to pitch. I hope they never go to the screen for tourneys. I am involved in every play and have an influence on the pace of the game and on a good day, have some influence on the batters.

I agree with Omar - I HATE walking a batter as it makes me feel as though I let the team down. Since so many of us in senior ball take the first pitch, that's the only time I try to groove one in. But, mck makes some good points too - walking someone isn't always a bad thing - especially when first base is open - it's very dependent on the situation - score/inning/hr hitter?, etc.

I also had neck fusion surgery and was back playing within 6 months. I would agree it took about a year to get back to full strength but have had no issues since. This was in 2005. Very glad I made the decision as well.
