Just a thought but since 65 and up play midweek in some/most SSUSA tournaments maybe its time to allow the 65's to field 11. Your thoughts?

BJ, the tension at home plate when I disagreed with the ump, could have been cut with a knife. Surely didn't think to get the TD involved would help to deescalate things so I opted against it. Thankfully the situation never happened .

Discussion: 65s to 1-1 or not 1-1

Just got back from Ft Myers 65 AAA
Played 7 and only 2 went the full 7 innings.
I know this has been a recent topic about some wanting to start with a 1-1 count while many like the 4-3.
Just curious what others have experienced in some of the more recent tournaments and whether peoples opinions have changed and may be interested in going 1-1.

Yes, I am aware of the procedure to suggest it to the rules committee

Am also aware of several things that lead to the slow play.

Discussion: Base runner using the safety bag at 1st base

Just got back from Ft Myers where the umpire in his pregame meeting said how the fielder had to touch the white base and the runner the orange bag. I asked him what happens if the runner hits both orange and white simultaneously. He stated he would call him out. I told him he was not correct in that the runner only has to touch part of the orange bag. He said No, I said yes and we went back and forth I finally said that's not the way it is written in the rule book. Not looking to antagonize him anymore we agreed to disagree. After the game I approached the TD and he kind of said its a judgment call- I guess meaning that the umpire could put his spin on it. Again I said not the case but we agreed to disagree.
If I am not mistaken this has come up previously on this board. Batter can hit both bags but MUST touch some portion of the orange.
PS I'm glad this situation never happened occurred during the game. and apparently the umpire did check with the TD regarding this situation but based on what we discussed don't know if his is aware of the correct ruling.

Discussion: New Adidas Senior Bats

The 2 websites I've seen these bats for sale both have a 60 warranty and one says the bat is certified for SSUSA while the other says its approved for ssusa/isa. That being said I think by the number of views for this post people would still like confirmation on the legality of these bats as mck71 had suggested.

NYGNYY, I don't think so as the post with the tentative field assignments says that final field assignments will be available in late October along with the draft schedules.

Discussion: New Adidas Senior Bats

James, the fall edition of the ssusa newsletter had an article about the new melee max that would be available in October. A couple of weeks ago I had put a post on this website asking for feed back thinking that it might be available at the tournament in Vegas. My post got no responses but a couple hundred views. Since then I have seen these bats for sale on 2 different websites one of which said the expected release date is 10/20/19. Price 249. These new bats are supposed to have the tacky barrel and come in balanced, end load and 12". I figure maybe I'll see it for sale when we go to Ft. Myers in a few weeks.

Discussion: Dudley LLBSP (black and yellow)

By the way, I raved about the bat so much( when the reissue came out) to a fellow player who was looking for a bat. He bought one this spring and while using it for only the 2nd time, a foot or so of the barrel snapped right off after a swing.
And when he called the company about the bat, he was just plain out of luck.

Discussion: Dudley LLBSP (black and yellow)

Bruce, you would be correct in that the tacky on the original black and yellow started from the grip and went all the way to the end of the barrel. This is my bat of choice so when I saw the bat being reissued, I immediately ordered one and it was at a great price. When I received the bat, I immediately noticed that the 10 inches or so between the handle tape and the barrel was NOT tacky.

Caps14 if you look at the Dudley green/black balanced that followed the following year (2017???) you should see the difference. That part is shiny and not tacky. I actually called the company about the difference and was going to return the bat but eventually kept the bat but so far the original is much better.
I also have the green/black version 1 oz lighter and with the exception of the color, they would be identical.

goff, as I read it section 7A specifically says 'and batter does not swing' while section 7B deals with batter swinging.
Anyway, at least we know you can't steal

purcelce, I'm sure Tim was not trying to blast you, just trying to answer the deficiencies you presented to him. It has been our experience that Tim does everything in his power to put on a good tournament especially when dealing with weather and field/complex issues.

Thanks for the clarification Tim.
Maybe if we didn't give 5 outs in some innings we could have gotten the full 7 in and yes, on and off the field expeditiously would certainly have helped.
Umped 5 games and not one of them ours, you avoiding us??? LOL

Tim, nice job with getting the results up in a timely fashion. Other than the soggy outfield due to Tues night's rain the Wed/Thur weather was the best in the 5 years we've been coming to Tidewater. Hope that we can get back to regular seeding and bracket play in the future as I know that others and myself felt it lacked something and in some cases was anti climactic. Tidewater is like opening day for us, knowing we can finally get outdoors. Look forward to seeing you, Cal and Joe down the line and I'll try to keep my concerns to a minimum.

Also look forward to seeing many of the guys on the other teams we faced. Good guys and competition!
Stay healthy and have a great season.

Discussion: Music City bracket gripes (sorry)

Coop, we played in Tidewater tourney and had a similar experience with both the RR and the length of the games. 65AAA + 1 70 major so 4 teams. 5 game guarantee and setup had us playing 3 games one day and 3 games the next however 3 of those games were outside of our 4 team bracket and had no bearing on who would be the eventual winner of our division. Why we didn't have bracket games instead I would imagine had to do with scheduling for those 2 days as there were only 8 total teams for those 2 days. Speaking for myself I wasn't overly enthused with this setup.
Even though the 3 meaningless games were competitive, there was just something missing knowing that they didn't have an affect on anything.

I also agree with you that lose 1 game and your chances of winning could be over. We ended up with a 3 way tie with 2-1 record and it went to tiebreakers.

Last point you mention I questioned also, but in looking in the rule book, Page 29 Section 5.4C1 and I think it was added in 2018, in full RR games, they are 65 minutes. I was unaware of this but I felt that in our 3 games that were meaningless, they should be comparable to seeding games and the RR games that counted as bracket games and yes, 1 of those RR games didn't go the distance and would have with the extra 5 minutes. Oh well, rules is rules.

Bottom line, it was great to get out there after a long winter of just indoor ball and now I know more about the rulebook than I previously had.

Discussion: PLEASE CHANGE THIS RULE!!

I could be wrong but I thought the rule when a guy is out of the lineup was that it was an out the next time in the batting order and then the lineup gets compressed. Or is that only when a player leaves due to injury.
And yes an out and ejection does seem excessive but those the know might explain why the rule is as such.
