Discussion: How do you like the 1 n 1 count?

I have to agree with DC Pete. As an outfielder, it drove me nuts on hot days watching every batter take the first pitch whether or not it was a meatball or a ball. Most batters had no intention of swinging at the first pitch. It's a complete waste of time. It's also clear based on facts provided by SSUSA and my personal experience that more games are played to the full seven innings. Good luck in Vegas to all.

Discussion: Point of Contact, Silent Killer of a Great Swing. SM#79

I always find these videos useful and try to apply the information. This particular one is my biggest fault so it's good to get a reminder just to stay back on the ball and make sure it reaches the zone at contact. It makes a huge difference in how you strike the ball. Thanks for all of the videos Bogie! You probably don't realize how many people that they help.

Coop3636...could have used some grass on the outfields as well (maybe because no clouds lately?). Those were some of the roughest outfields I've played on since playing senior ball. You had to play the outfield like you were a hockey goalie. A few of the fields were OK but most were in bad shape.

Thanks to SSUSA for a well run tournament, good umpires with great attitudes and an overall good time. Just would have been better with a little grass in the outfield.

Just swing the bat. This subject has been beaten to death and then beaten some more.

Discussion: Looking to play in STL

OK. I've now put the pieces of the puzzle together. crowbar actually ended up playing on my team on Wednesday as it turns out. BIGHURT is correct with the legit pick up comment. He's been mashing it so far.

Discussion: Foul Tip vs Foul Ball

A batter doesn't deserve another swing if you hit a "foul tip". That seems almost impossible to do if you're actually trying to hit the ball.

There is a senior league on Wednesdays that starts up at Bridgeton tonight. You may want to go there and talk to some people.

Discussion: cortisone shot

I used Cortisone shots for pain in one of my feet and it worked great. It was actually amazing but they only really help with inflammation and not structural damage. It sounds like you may have rotator cuff or labrum issues which a shot would likely not help. I'm not a doctor nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express so my opinion isn't worth much.

Discussion: How to renew

It's tricky. You have to use a different log in than what you use for getting on the message board. You should have 2 logins and passwords. Just because you access the message board doesn't mean that you are registered. The log in for registration will be your email address and then use your password if you have set it up.

AS an example, I use my ID of STL0 as my login ID to view the message board. To renew, I have to login using my email address and the password associated with that. Hope that helps.

Discussion: Is it fair?

As to the question of is it far, the answer is yes. The rules allow for a 55 M+ team to play 50M. If those guys are good enough to play 50 and win then good for them. It's not like they went into the tournament hiding any of that. The roster was approved so game on.

I think there is definitely a difference between players in their lower 50s versus players in their upper 50s so I don't think combining 50s and 55s makes sense. You just have to give these guys credit for being able to perform well enough to win at the 50 M level.

Discussion: World's Perspective

Well said Mike. I think everyone could write something similar. The shooting is another thing that adds perspective this year. We happened to choose to head to the other end of town that Sunday night. We just as easily could have chosen to be in the middle of the chaos.

Discussion: Bad experience for a Class Tournament - Worlds

We had this happen a few years back in Vegas and it almost cost us winning the tournament. We had a player that slid across the line for no apparent reason as there was not even a throw home. The home plate umpire saw it and called it. I was on deck and was aware of the rule but wasn't sure they would call it. The home plate umpire conferred with the other umpire after the play and called our runner out, which was the correct call. We were upset but didn't complain because IT'S THE RULE.

The bottom line is the umpire has to watch the person score or they're not doing their job. The game should have continued and that's not a reflection on the team appealing the play if they choose to appeal it.

Boombah: Do you believe that it impacted the game? I totally get that it's a rule but if that's the only jerseys they have at the time, wouldn't you rather play?

Discussion: Player Ratings

Barry: I have direct experience with the situation you used as an example. All I can say is that there was a lot of discussion between me and SSUSA over a period of a few months and they listened to what I had to say (as well as others) and a solution was worked out. I think you'll see most of Staff's comments state that they want you to call and discuss issues like these which makes sense because they are unique and complex so they can't just say here is how it works for everyone in general. I believe that they try to be reasonable while still maintaining the integrity of team/player ratings.

I lost a season of playing while this was being worked out but at least I'm able to play again and enjoying the 2017 season.

Discussion: shaved bats

Fabe: I have not heard of anyone killed by a batted ball in senior softball (or other organization). There have been a few stories posted on this board where pitchers have been hit with substantial injuries. Then there are also the stories you hear when traveling about players getting hit and the stories of who is using shaved bats but no deaths are mentioned in those stories.

There's also quite a few examples of people playing the infield that I know (including me) that have permanent bruises and/or "dents" in their legs from taking balls off the shin or other part of the leg.

Good luck in Vegas. By the way, did you play for Family Stone in 2014?

Pizzaboy: I have kids close that age and I tell them what I think all of the time. They still do whatever they want but sometimes what I say sinks in and they take it into consideration.

I hate cheating and cheaters because to me it shows both laziness (not willing to put in the work to get better) and a lack of character. I think the message from our generation to the younger ones should be to show some character and have pride in how you represent yourself. If we don't send that message, who will? We're complicit if we don't tell people who say that they're cheating that it's wrong and call them out on it.

I'm not saying that your kid is a bad kid or you're not a good parent so don't take it that way. I'm just saying that we should all be sending the right message to players of any age when it comes to cheating. Good luck with the rest of the season.
