How do you like the 1 n 1 count?
I figure since the SSUSA year is almost up I'd ask how everyone likes the 1 n 1 count. There was a lot of opinions on this when voted in.

Are you noticing an increase in complete games played compared to previous years?

Anyone that was against it.... Have you changed your mind or do you still not like it. Why?

For the 40's age bracket. Would you like to get rid of 1 n 1 no foul in favor of 1 n 1 with a foul? Or would you like to keep it with no foul? Why?

Any other input would be great too. Just curious.

I’m new to SSUSA.....have played in tournaments this year (40+&50+) different rules regarding 1&1 count with and without extra foul....what will the rule for this be in Las Vegas for Championships....just trying to prepare ahead of time as a 1&1 with no extra foul is a different approach (for me at least)...thanks in advance and safe travels and good luck to all...even at the gambling tables!

In the games that I played this year, I like the 1-1 count, because all but 2 games, we played 7 innings. We even played a few extra inning games in seeding games and/or a round robin set up. Several games were completed early, and it was nice to get out of the summer heat sooner.

I have seen no change in regards to games speeded up. Rarely played 7 innings this year.

I can say without hesitation that speeds up the game, last year we played 11 games in 40 Majors and every game went the distance, where as I played in the 50 Majors the following week and not one of our game did. In the 40s the batter was normally swinging at the first good pitch and each AB lasted 2-3 pitches tops, in 50 the batter never took his bat off his shoulder until he had 2 strikes and each AB lasted 5-6 pitches.

I play both 60M+ and 65M+. I do not like the 1-1 count in the 60’s. I want to enjoy the game, not feel rushed to get it over with. I want to enjoy the game. Geez

I never feel rushed to get the game over with, when we have had the 1-1 count. Without the 1-1 count and my team is behind in a game, I feel a bit anxious to get those extra 1-2 innings in, to have a better chance come back and win. I enjoy the game either way. I like playing all 7 innings. When I said in my previous post, that we even finished early, is that I wanted to convey that we played the entire 7 innings. No one on either team felt rushed. Actually, just the opposite. The only aspect of feeling rushed with a 1-1 count, is the batter will not be able to stand in the box and wait for the first strike.

GREAT! So if that first pitch is deep & inside and borderline to maybe hit the mat you should swing. Wonderful. I kinda think the teams entry fee would include the luxury of actually renting the batters box to take such a pitch. If a team is going to coordinate on date, clear their family and business calenders, drive or fly to the venue, pay for lodging and meals why shouldn't they be able to MAYBE "wait for the first strike"?

Hey this is slo-pitch softball for crying out loud.
No one says if you take the 1st pitch strike you can't get a hit on the next slow strike that comes your way.
Plus with 1 - 1 you normally get a courtesy foul anyway so you can just foul off the next slow strike that comes your way if you don't like it.

I have to agree with DC Pete. As an outfielder, it drove me nuts on hot days watching every batter take the first pitch whether or not it was a meatball or a ball. Most batters had no intention of swinging at the first pitch. It's a complete waste of time. It's also clear based on facts provided by SSUSA and my personal experience that more games are played to the full seven innings. Good luck in Vegas to all.

The 1-1 is GREAT, no bats on the shoulders. Guys are ready to hit and as for taking the first strike on you, guess what they are going to pitch the next one just like the first one UNDERHAND in a 6-12 arc

Never said the 50 and over division should have the full count. I was and am an advocate for the 60 and over divisions and above. For the record, reread my first post in this thread, I was responding to the exact posted syntax as written from a poster.

I am with tc4whlr, this is slowpitch. I believe the 1-1 favors the pitcher, but so what. He/she/they are the closest to the batted ball and are delivering the pitch underhanded at 5-7 MPH. With these bats and balls, I personally think a fair trade off is 1-1 nothing to waste or just change to instead of 3-4 to 2-3 and lets the chips fall where they may.

Ole guy still living the dream.

1-1 count is great.
55M+ and 50M only 1 of our games did not go 7 innings this year.
As a fielder I really enjoy the improved pace of play. Now we just need to do away with the pitching and infield warm-ups EVERY inning.

Didn't think this subject would come up again? This season, 25 out of our 28 games that had the 1-1 count went 7 innings, 89%. 4 out of 20 that had the 0-0 count (other associations) went 7 innings, 20%. Last year 36% of our total games went 7 innings. Pretty obvious what it's doing!

I have been for 1-1 since I started playing senior softball 40's and older. always loved knowing guys were ready to hit and keep action going. I have never been blessed to pitch with the 1-1 rules and now that I turned 65 this year moved to that age group and guess what 60 and under got the 1-1 rules. Please now after this year change ALL groups to the same 1-1 count. Any thing else as my Kindergarten students say is just stupid. We are all so blessed to continue to play this game but I really pray the time for 1-1 has come for ALL AGE GROUPS.. HOW MANY SLOW PITCHES DO WE REALLY NEED????. I get tired of watching over 40 players a game take the first strike, with all our extra pitching gear it really gets hot enough just trying to knock down the middle shots. Thanks for all that voted to have the 1-1 in 65 division, more than did vote for 0-0 count. Bless you, Terry, Dave , Fran, George for letting us play a kids game. See 65's week from tomorrow.GI

Thank you everyone who's responded. I was mainly curious because I wanted to know if it would be worth asking for a vote at the committee meeting to give 40's a foul. Right now 40's plays 1 n 1 no foul to give. Knowing that the other age groups are getting in 7 innings in most games I think its fair to say that 40's could go to 1 n 1 with a courtesy foul.
