Discussion: How long did you start playing after surgery?

Yes, My doc told me no athletic stuff for a year and that's what I did. Started physical therapy immediately and lasted for about 4 months.

I had both hips done in 2009. After taking year off I have been playing since with no issues. If I were you I would take the time off. You will feel pretty good and will consider playing in a few months but to me it was worth taking the time off to get completely healed up. I know the technology has changed since I had mine less intrusive procedure, quicker healing time etc. But you are still replacing a joint better safe than sorry in my opinion!

It's amazing how someone will try and twist the words around in the ruling to get their own opinion of a simple rule such as this.

Discussion: Dudley Bat problems

You probably won't get anywhere with Dudley on a soon to be 3 year old bat with that many swings on it. If I were you I would pop end cap off see if you can re glue end load back on to cap and re glue end cap in. Or if you can't re glue end load just remove it.

rocky026 - Not a rep just curious which dudley bat do you have? What year? How many swings on it?

Benji4 - Easton really! Until the Empire came out the salvo and elder were garbage. Now the Empire has decent pop but these things are flaking and braking early!

You can forget getting a reply back from him in an email. I tried multiple times a year or so ago when I had an issue with my Adidas bat never got a reply!

If it is hit and sit rules it doesn't matter if you touch 1st with bat or not. Once ball goes over fence it's
a dead ball.

skip 6 - I think you got some bad info. The original Gray Ultra wasn't out until 2002 and the Og Black Ultra II wasn't out as SSUSA Staff replied until 2003. How about some pics to see what you actually have.

Discussion: Easton Empire or Helmer?

Do yourself a favor get any other bat except a Easton. The performance on the new Easton senior lines is way better than previous bats but durability is awful. If you only want to get 2-300 swings max out of your bat go ahead and buy one of the new Eastons.

Alan, problem is you're average player such as myself doesn't have a bat comp. tester. So we won't know when our bats are getting to the point where the barrel is flexing too much.

B.J. - Is correct runner is always awarded base that would have been reached based on umpires judgement had obstruction not happened.

Dave- Just curious I agree ump made correct call, but after watching complete video there were multiple batters out of box when making contact with ball yet none were called out?

Don't understand why this is so confusing. And for 50% of the umpires to not know the answer is unbelievable it is always where the ball is in relation to being fair or foul.

Turbobob - not trying to be an ass, but why would you think there was a force? neither runner was forced to go anywhere.

Discussion: runner intentionally get hit by ball

If the runner running to third only jumps over ball to not get hit by it there is no interference. If runner stops or attempts to shield fielder from ball you have interference.

Barring any league rules that allow runner on 1st to stand on safety bag anyways. Ump should call time dead ball both runners should be called out.

Nancy, don't know what associations they call besides seniors these are SPA and ISSA umps. SSUSA is basically non-existent where I play.

Discussion: Calling High Pitches

Would love to have some of these umpires yall are complaining about calling 6-10'. I have been playing senior ball for 5 years now and most of the umpires I have encountered are more on 8-14' range. Have seen many a pitch at least a foot over a 6' tall pitcher called illegal next pitch 13-14' range called strike.

Discussion: Calling High Pitches

VegasBob - just curious what do you say to your batters when you yell high and they strike out looking because ump didn't think it was illegal. My suggestion is to let batter make that decision if ump doesn't call illegal then your batter makes decision to swing or not. JMO!!

Discussion: Terminology

In my opinion pitch height should be moved to 10' right now with most umps and this is all senior associations. The height called is basically 8-14'. Can't tell you how many pitches I have seen in the 6 to 7' range called flat next pitch around 14' called a strike. Bring it down to 10' like every other association except seniors and it would help some of these umps who don't know the difference between 12 and 14 or better.
