Discussion: MONEY

The company shows a net profit of $13,159 on $1.927mil. That net profit is after paying employees, which could be $10,000 per year or $500,000 per year.

Take USSSA as an example. USSSA receives $x amount of every team that plays in every tournament. They also get the team registration fee. The remaining of the tournament money is used by the local director to pay for fields, umpires, travel expenses, etc.. Whatever is left is what the local director has earned for running the tournament. With that concept, approximately $2,000,000 in revenue is a substantial amount of money.

Year-to-date in 19 (most of the big ones) out of what will be a total of 72 SSUSA Tournaments (not counting the recreation tournaments) page they have collected $755,440.00 in entry fees alone. Some of those tournaments did very well, some not so well.

What does all of this mean? Not Much... What would be nice would be for the SSUSA Board of Directors to have some sort of questionnaire that they send out to all of the players they have emails for, and get input on equipment, field usage, ways to improve the quality of the product, etc.

Don't know if they care or not, but most good business owners want to know, to help ensure the long term health of their enterprise.

But when it comes down to who makes how much within SSUSA, not really up to anybody but the board of directors. Do the players have control as to how much people earn? Absolutely, because without the players, they earn $0.

USSSA does it at the conclusion of each game. Do it online and the bracket is updated immediately.

I'm just saying that it isn't that hard and can be done live at the field by the director.

Discussion: Tournament seeding

The seeding higher vs. lower in bracket play can be very misleading. Seeding is also a product of the strength of your opponents in pool play. Example, last year we played two very good teams in pool play and finished 2-0. We won 32-31 and 25-22. The teams we beat both ended up top 7 at the end of the tourney out of 32 teams. We ended up the 7th seed going into bracket play because some teams played against teams that didn't score over 12 runs in any game in the tournament. Because some teams drew weak teams in seeding games they ended up seeded higher even though they were nowhere near better. We ended up winning the tournament and got bumped to a higher division unfairly. But it would've been wrong to lose the chance of being home team, because of the scheduling of the seeding games.

Discussion: Trump Rock

Original question I asked- "Why not allow a few different balls to be played, and SSUSA doesn't provide any balls and reduce the entry fees accordingly?" Then there is no reason for SSUSA to have a national contract with a ball supplier, and they open the balls up to the core/compression they set (44/375) but not by manufacturer. We are talking about a Not-for-Profit organization, so why not reduce the workload and red tape?

Discussion: Trump Rock

I get that SSUSA provides teams with a set number of balls per tournament, but the teams have to buy the rest of their balls, which can be a lot when you consider the HR rules. Where it seems to become a racket is that SSUSA requires you to buy 1 certain ball from them. If SSUSA isn't making money off the balls, why not allow a few different balls to be played, and SSUSA doesn't provide any balls and reduce the entry fees accordingly (the cost of the provided balls)? This allows teams to purchase their own balls at the best cost possible to them, and removes the hassle of SSUSA from having to purchase, store, and transport balls. If they want they can still purchase balls in bulk and offer them for sale at their tournaments (which I am sure most directors would "invest" in the ball that teams are most likely to purchase).

It comes down to this in Southern California;

Play in the two Vegas tournaments where they use the Rock, and then play in GSL/USSSA events locally that allow use of good balls. If you don't like the product being offered, you don't have to play. Hopefully wherever you are, there are alternatives that will make you happy.

Why doesn't SSUSA use the Rocks all the time. The Trump Stote used in California sucks during the heat of summer. Just standardize to the Rock.

40 major plus- is fine with BLD....or Lorenzi.... should definitely put the best teams in the youngest division on the safest fields since they should be the ones that hit the ball hardest.

Is it possible for teams to be bumped coming off Nationals? Seems like same teams dominating in Major levels (even beating major plus teams by more than the 5 run spot).

Lee,
I get you that it doesn't but it should as it shows how competitive the two teams are with each other.

1 tourney does, as they say they want to base it on results from 3 tourneys. Tourney 2 was a 3rd place finish (6-3 record).

Shane, how about a bump after 1 tourney, in which 3 games went 8 innings (very easily could have lost any of them)? Championship game was a 1 run game. First year team with only 2 players that have ever played M+.

There are other teams that have won two TOC events, and/or consistently finished in top 3 yet they don't get bumped? Is it because they are from Nor Cal? Something doesn'T add up.

Trying to figure out how the 40 teams that were bumped to major plus, got bumped. One is a first year team that has taken 1st and 3rd in two tournaments. The tourney they won, included (3) 8 inning games, and they lost their second game (?). They followed that up by going 6-3 at their state tourney to finish 3rd. Not sure why the other team was bumped either, as they have great defense but slightly above avareage offense and finished T-5th (?) And T-7th (?) In the two big tourneys this year?
