Discussion: Miken is NOT taking care of the problem Ultra IIs

I have one of the problem Ultra IIs, the USA model, and I sent it back to Miken 2 weeks ago to be replaced. The bat is dead, it doesn't sound like a UII or hit like a UII. I received an email today from Miken and they said my bat passed their tests and they were shipping it back to me. So now I have a $200 log that will sit in my garage and collect dust. This will be the last bat I buy from Miken. Does anyone have a Reebok or Combat they want to trade for a 27 Oz Ultra II USA?

Thanks,
Bruce

bruceAZ- this is not good news, i just send a 27 oz black ultra 2 for the same reason. i was told that they would test the compression, and also test it by hitting it a few times for their in house batter's opinion. will see what happens. i ordered a COMBAT AMBUSH from alan, just in case miken shoots me down. if miken turns me down also, i will also boycott miken and tell my senior league about their decision. save your bat and copy of your email, and in the future if corky is at one of your tournaments, approach him for help. shot in the dark but maybe he can help. he normally has a compression tester with him.

Like I mentioned on a prior post, Miken took care of my bat in two weeks. Maybe there is nothing wrong with yours. Kudos to Miken!

Just sent my MIKEN Ultra II USA back today, just like all of you are saying mine is DEAD, hope they exchange it. I bought a friends REEBOK and so far really like this bat. Hope Miken does the right thing, or I to will jump ship.

BruceAZ-Same thing happen here. When did senior's start checking compression on there bats? What a test? My USA UltraII is being shipped back to me also. I told them I have over 10 UltraII's and this one just doesn't have it. And it's the NEW and GREATEST TECHNOLOGY. Designed allowing players greater distance with less bat speed. Benfit same as the UltraII but has a more flexible handle design. Right!

I bought an ULTRAII back in march, the bat sounded great every time I made contact with the ball it sounded so sweet then the bat had a crack on it after so many uses. So I bought me another ULTRAII and this one sounds sooo weak. It feels like it hasn't been broken in yet, so after many uses it still sounds the same, a very weak thud, no pop. Maybe I should go for the Reebok, may have better luck.

It would be helpful to others if people referring to their Ultra 2 made it clear which model they have and its weight. Patterns may develop.

Make sure you have a receipt when making claim over the phone or on the web site. And that you send it in with the bat.
Otherwise it will be denied.
They stand by the product overall but want 'proof' as it were.

Dave & #6, I'm glad that Miken took care of your bats, they're just not taking care of mine. I'm not a HR hitter, but I break 1-2 Ultras a year, so I know what one should hit and sound like. Anyone who hits with an Ultra knows what it sounds like. This USA model that I purchased a couple of months ago doesn't have the same sound and or the same pop. This is Miken's email reply to me;

"I am pleased to inform you that your bat has passed all of its test and we're shipping it back to you."

They might be pleased but I'm not. What tests do they perform?

I've owned 8-10 Ultras in the last 4-5 years but I'm not happy and I won't be buying any more. Sorry to spout off, just wanted to get the word out on the bad experience I had with Miken Customer Service.

BruceAZ, I did not receive and e-mail. So I called them last Thursday to check on it. That's about the same statement they gave me. My bat passed all tests. So why are they checking the compression. I told them the bat wasn't HOT. And there were several forums talking about this. So the lady told me to write it in the letter. And send it with the bat. I did for what? By the way this a 27oz. UltraII USA-SPU2P. I to own 10 UltraII's and this one just doesn't have it. It has way over 300 hits on it. Good luck to you others.

BruceAZ, The two test are Compression and a factory hitter hits your bat. That's what she told me. Miken Customer Service. Would it not be easier to post the serial numbers of the subject bats? It would of save me $20.00 in freight and insurance.

The bottom line is that Miken can say anything they want. As players, we know what works and what does not and if a bat breaks too easy or does not perform as well as competitors, then the company will not seel it's products. I broke three mikens in one year some time ago. This past year I decided to give them another try and the bat was dead.

I guess Miken will not fix it's own issues until players stop buying their product.

Miken is a good bat for as long as it lasts which isn't that long.
There are better choices out there Combat, Easton, Reebok & Worth for customer service.
If you stop buying\using Miken products, they might listen.
Too bad this so called Core bat never hit reality, All that BS seems to be another bat to disregard after about 3 years of secrecy,
The Combat Ambush to date, has done what it was said to be IMHO. Time will tell on longevity.

I do not swing a Miken, but when I did and I had a problem. I found the customer service (Lisa) at Miken Sports to be professional and helpful.

My switch to Reebok was strickly because I believe it to be more suited to my swing preference.

Webbie's bat is a "dud". IMO Miken adjusted the number of composite wraps to give it more durability and it resulted in some "dead" bats.

Same letter yesterday. Now I have a $200 U2Maxload doorstop. Its a dud.I'll never use it in a tourney unless I break the others. Time to find a bat from a manufacturer who takes responsibility for the inherent variability in his processes in case same thing happens to them. Have swung the Reebs & Combats - like them too. Bye Miken.

i dont understand MIKEN'S lack of caring on this or any problem that comes up with their products. MIKEN ultra 2's have been the weapon of choice for most of the seniors for years . their lack of concern or backing of their products have allowed other bat companies to take their fair share of the senior business. the other bat companies offer pretty good products also. if the quality of miken bats continue to suffer and the company doesnt care to take care of us, then i for one am done with their bats. i am also waiting for MIKEN to determine the fate of my "dead bat!" if they dont care for our business and start taking care of us then WE NEED TO SERIOUSLY CONSIDER BOYCOTTING MIKEN PRODUCTS, AFTER ALL THEY NEED US MORE THAN WE NEED THEM. Got my USA model back today with the same letter every one else got, "Thanks for sending it in but it passed our tests and we're sending it back". They said they did a compression test and a field test. The bat may have passed their compression test but the bat under performs from what we expect from an Ultra II. I guess I'll be using it for BP, but it's my last Miken. I saw Gorilla Boy has a new Combat out, a 2 piece Senior Bat (Twilight), I'm going to have him send me one.

The serial numbers are good for tracking runs of bats and other things. I'll have to look at the one I have in the wrapper to see if it has one.
I take it the one that was replaced did not have a SN. Was it a 1.21 BPF?
I have another 1.20, I need to look at too, also in wrapper.

TO MIKEN : i recd my " dud " bat today : thank you for checking the bat, which you deemed to be perfectly fine. i am pleased to informed you that effective today I WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER MIKEN BAT OF ANY KIND FROM YOU OR ANY MIKEN DEALER. i understand that word of mouth DOES WORK, and will inform other senior players in my league of my dud bat problem and your response. i will continue to use it as a batting practice bat only and see if it ever heats up. i have ordered a COMBAT AMBUSH and will make it my primery bat. ps: i am glad that some of the other players were taken care of.

Armiho my friend, My team the "Rangers of North Texas" bought the grey Miken at end of last year as a team bat.
I used it in Georgetown this year (2012) and there was nothing there, so, I bought a Combat Centenarian, and so far it is a great bat.
The team Miken is nothing like the ones from 6 or 10 or whatever years ago, and, I do not understand why.
This bat you will buy just may be a Centenarian with a little bigger sweat spot. Let me know. Will talk later.

crusher,
I am wondering why you infer that the Ambush is a Centurion?
IT ISN"T. Even Mike Machenko (Gorilla Boy), who is a competitor with Anaconda, said that it WAS NOT. The Ambush is a good bat. But as said by others we all prefer different ones mainly because of the bat mechanics on how each may swing differently balanced or end loaded. Until you use it and it's broke in, which again depends on MANY factors, you will really not know it it suits your style.
Miken is a good bat for many, I go through too many of them to be a cost effective choice. Still have two I will use as back ups if my Grey Combat or Ambush isn't working for me... But then it's the batter not the bat in reality.

Well, just got the bat that had 40 cuts maximum on it and of course no warranty. Didn't expect it, but am going to be trying other bats as 12 bats in 3 years is way too many. Hope Miken enjoyed the sales they got from me.
Either the dud bat or its replacement is waiting at UPS for tomorrow. I will let you guys know.

I received a phone call on it. BUT, mine was about a defective bat I broke at the ring finger on upper hand while batting. Clean break. But I think a defect regarding pop is as notable.
I don't think you will regret the change once bat is broken in. I have read some note where younger guys hit it out just out of the wrapper... Age does have some advantages.

Very interesting, with this as answer to problem by them:
STAFF: We have recently spoken with Miken regarding the unusual performance issues of a limited number of Ultra II's, and they have assured us that it was an isolated incident and that the source of the problem has been identified and corrected.

I can't imagine just how many duds are really out there, miss painted or otherwise.

So you are saying that Miken is falsely selling something else as a U2. Makes sense to me, the two I have swung feel and sound nothing like a U2, or even a Freak. I'm not sure, but isn't this fraud? Even if it isn't really, it's close enough for me. Glad I gave up on Miken a year ago.

Reebok yellow model and White Combat are the 2 best new bats out there, i said new! I don't know the Ambush to early, but what i do know about the ambush is that depending on your bat speed, combined with your strength minus if you took a sh%t before you hit, you should hit it 50 to 100 more times and then make a call.

I swung the Ultra II for 10 years. Switched to Reebok Melee Legend over 2 years ago and my U-II's lean against the wall at the house. People know I do not disappear after they get a bat from me. My newest red UII has yet to hit a ball over 300'. I sent it back, they compression tested it and it "passed". Without a call or email they sent it back to me. A team mate sent his in and is getting a new one. We both bought our bats from the same vender at a tournament in FL at the same time. I continued to hit my bat and let other power hitters use it in the hopes that it would open up. With over 400 swings it has never got any better. Compression test pass or not, this bat will not perform.

I think the secret here is to send a dud back right away. The more you hit it the more likely it is to pass the compression test.

I have been a Miken fan for many years and have bought 3 to 4 senior bat a year + league bats. I have bought my last Miken bat.

Well, I say if I were rating bats... I would put the Reebok at the top with combats second.. and Miken third... the new Demarini's AKA (Stiff Green Pickle) I will hold judgement on these bats until we hit a few more Tourneys! but so far, they are very promising and have been very durable! We have already hit some tape measure shots with them and no spidering! So they may get my endorsement after two more Tourneys.. I have only played two Tourneys so far with them and it's performing like a rebook or combat and seems to be more durable than the Reebok. I put a lot of swings in BP with the bat I'm swinging and it's holding up.. it has 300 swings and no spidering!

I also got my Miken replacement yesterday, about one week after I sent it back UPS with a return # number.

THANK YOU MIKEN!!!!!!

FYI, the new Miken's have a serial number just above the handle on the bat.

My bad bat in question had no serial number. Balls coming off the bat also did not sound like the normal crack of the bat, I was accustomed too.

I know every situation is different. I bought the "bad bat" at a store and had the receipt.

Somebody ( I think it was Corky from SSUSA) mentioned most of the bad bats (not all) apparently were shipped out to stores, and having a store receipt was important.

Although he also said Miken would test the bat once they received it. There was not a doubt in my mind my bat was not going to pass.
