Brickyard T
The Brickyard tournament is usually the first T of the year for most in the mid west and has been held at Midwest Sports complex in Indy for yrs. This complex has fallen on hard times and as one who plays in Indy, is moving down the list on preferred places to play. That said SSUSA might want to check out Indianapolis Sports Park on the south side of Indy. They have installed turf infields (8 fields) and the facility is top notch(except the parking lot needs work). So much so conference USSSA has scheduled a men's Major tournament there to be held in September. I would like to put this T back on our schedule, but being the weather is always Iffy, playing on less than desirable fields keeps me from it. Not a commercial just a heads up.

Reggie,

You're not alone in this assessment. Midwest Sports Complex was the place to play in the 90s but as you stated is has progressively gotten worse every year. It's the only complex we play at all year that beside BLD in Vegas that charges admission while also being the only complex that has multiple car break ins during the year while tournaments are going on. The overall conditions of the complex have gotten bad and as you stated the weather is always iffy at best and basically any rain on those fields they are a disaster. Would be nice to have it played at a more modern facility with Turf fields that if it were to rain they would hold up better and not having to worry the whole day that your car is being broken into while playing. We have played there the past few years when it actually didn't get rained out. As you said it's the first one most of us in the Midwest can play so most teams run the risk of the rainout just for the chance to play but talking with several Managers last year after the rainout and a few during the offseason the general concensus was teams weren't going to play there anymore.

Also, the tournament is only listing 65 and up there this year - is it a typo?

Reggie,
From my understanding Brickyard is going to continue to be played at Midwest Sports amd Social club. But I did hear that ISSA has moved their Crown Point tourney to that complex you're referring to. We will not be playing Brickyard my team will more than likely be heading to Dayton to play there the weekend before Brickyard to see that complex. Has to be kept up better than Brickyard is

SO just to be clear for the Brickyard, there will not be any 50 offered for this tournament on 4/28-4/30. Please someone confirm this so we can look to play elsewhere.

buc17svt ... Nothing is set in stone either way, which is a minor update/revision from our January 24th post (above) ... However, We've been getting multiple inquiries about 50's through 60's playing at The Brickyard so we've added the full complement of age groups for the event ... Thanks!

SSUSA STAFF,

I thought Dave had said on another post regarding the Brickyard that SSUSA would never schedule 2 tournaments back to back weekends only a few hours away from each other because it would create a conflict of which tournament to attend and lessen the turnouts at each event.

He may have, prior to customer input leading to this minor change in philosophy and plan ... Now any/all of the traditional age groups may play in Indianapolis ...

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.. One of the few times I actually agree with Dave. This is going to create smaller competition by teams having to choose between the 2..
