Oct. 25 deeppurple32 3 posts | Is it legal for a team to compete in two different age groups for example 55AAA and 60AAA ?? |
Oct. 25 SSUSA Staff 3506 posts | YES ... So long as no member of the team is under age 60 for the 60-AAA roster ... We would, for example, approve a team playing 60-AAA and 55-AA, since they would have the same ratings index of 5 ... "Vertical" (between age groups) multiple participation is allowed, but "horizontal" (in the same age group) is prohibited ... |
Oct. 26 deeppurple32 3 posts | Can you have identical rosters....if all players are of legal age for both divisions ? |

Oct. 26 softball4b Men's 70 1250 posts | Interesting point, if they will at 55 AAA would not they be moved to 60Major at some point. |
Oct. 26 SSUSA Staff 3506 posts | Yes, Mike ... That is certainly the rating change risk the team would take should they be successful in the 55-AAA division ... That is also the reason we carefully worded our initial response to be a fact pattern of 60-AAA and 55-AA ... |
Oct. 26 rabbit Men's 70 319 posts | so could a 65 major team play 60AAA? if they wanted to?just asking a question to see in case there are no teams in our area to play |
Oct. 26 SSUSA Staff 3506 posts | YES |
Oct. 28 softballman47 Men's 65 11 posts | if the 65 major plays downs to 60 AAA would it not have to play by the 60 AAA team rules - less homers and 10 players on defense? |
Oct. 28 SSUSA Staff 3506 posts | Yes, they would play by 60-AAA rules as you stated (except that in SSUSA sanctioned events, 65's play 10 defenders, not 11) ... AND ... The 65-Major team would NOT be permitted ANY player(s) under the age of 65 on the roster unless they wanted to play 60-Major ... |
April 4 PoollShark Men's 50 90 posts | I'm trying to understand how the rating rules apply. If for instance my team is 50M and next season the youngest player on our roster turns 55, we would then be eligible to play 55M? Also if I read this correctly we could play 50M and/or 50AAA as the rating index would be the same? |
April 4 SSUSA Staff 3506 posts | PoolShark .. Both of your understandings are correct ... One litle restriction, though, to keep in mind ... Your team would be able to play as a 55-M in a 50-AAA tournament so long as ALL of the players on that roster are at least 55 years you eligible ... You would not be permitted to play down in the 50-AAA with any player who is still only 50 .. Good luck! |
April 4 curty Men's 60 187 posts | if a team is rated AAA & they age up, they will be allowed to move down in rating? |
April 4 SSUSA Staff 3506 posts | Nope ... If six or more players from a team age up and stay together, they "take their (AAA) rating with them" ... If only five or less move up together, their rating as a "new" team will depend on the rating experience histories of the "new" players added to their roster who join the original five (or less) ... If those players are new to Senior Softball, there is a rebuttable presumption that they start in a AAA rating history classification ... |
April 4 PoollShark Men's 50 90 posts | Just a hypothetical situation, I have a 15 player roster and every player is 54 and every player turns 55 this season. This team played 50M last season. The team now plays as 55M and can play as 50 AAA? |
April 4 bkb555 301 posts | how does a 60 yr old play on a 65 team???? |
April 4 jake7 7 posts | I thought you could not have more than 3 major players on a triple a roster. |
