Discussion: Additional Stats to Track-SF Giants (K Tomlinson)

Add a couple more columns to your stats spread sheet for pinch hitting:

Tomlinson’s seven pinch-hits were tied for second on the team after Gillaspie’s 11.
He was 7-for-17 as a pinch hitter, adding three walks. Tomlinson’s simple swing and up-the-middle approach have proven perfect for important spots.
He’s a .315 career hitter with runners in scoring position,
a .373 hitter in situations baseball-reference deems “late and close,” and a .367 hitter in “high leverage” spots.

New Stats :
RISP-(Runners in Scoring Position)
Note:You may be already tracking this stat
L & C (Late & Close)
HLS (High Leverage Spots).

As some folks may have noticed the TX STATE CHAMPIONSHIP POST has been removed by SSUSA Staff. For those of us who have been classified as "Snarky Commentators" that is one of deadly sins that will get your post(s) removed.
So much for our 1st amendment right.
Capt Kirk
Note: Snarky, A witty mannerism, personality, or behavior that is a combination of sarcasm and cynicism. Usually accepted as a complimentary term. Snark is sometimes mistaken for a snotty or arrogant attitude.
Her snarky remarks had half the room on the floor laughing and the other half ready to walk out.

PH.D's breaking the down the science:

"Softball" - A Contradiction In Terms
by Ronald D. Noebe, Ph.D. and Mark McDowell, Ph.D.

More homeruns hit than ever before!
Games taking longer to play!

It Must Be The Bats?

There is no doubt that softball bats today are highly engineered "tools" made out of sophisticated lightweight structural materials with the sole purpose of propelling a ball faster and farther than ever before. Bats get all the press and therefore, all the blame. But there has been a more insidious change in equipment that has been mostly overlooked, and yet can impact the game much more than the bat- It's THE BALL!

Nevertheless, softball associations have focused their attention on bat performance testing and stricter regulations (more on this in future articles), while softballs have received much less scrutiny in recent years. Current softballs are very simple yet efficient pieces of equipment, (see Figure 1 - Parts of a Softball). They consist of three basic parts. A leather or synthetic cover, a raised stitched seam, and a solid polymer (polyurethane) core. It is this solid polymer core that controls the bulk properties of the ball such as COR and compression.

Discussion: Trump Rock

This may explain why LP hit one out in the Rocking Reno several years ago, temp was around 60 and the wind was blowing at 20-25 mph:
As a player, you should also be aware that weather has an enormous impact on the compression of a softball. Studies have shown that when the temperature is 100 degrees, an average softball looses 200 pounds of compression as compared with the same softball at 60 degrees. This means that a softball that is a 525 pound compression ball at 60 degrees may play like a 375 pound ball at 100 degrees. In addition, clouds, rain, and humidity also affect the compression of a ball. 70 degrees and sunny creates lower compression balls than if it was 70 degrees and cloudy. Leather balls generally take on more moisture in rainy or humid conditions than synthetic balls. This will generally raise the compression and level of play up to a point, then performance will decline once the ball takes on too much water and becomes too heavy.

Is the Rock softball, 44/375, to expensive to be the standard bearer for all SSUSA Tournaments? The Rock is the ball that is used in the World Championship in Vegas, but I believe that is the only SSUSA tournament that it is used.

Discussion: Hall of Fame Points

To summarize: If you are a AA team and win a SSUSA tournament that awards (5) ATP's and a MVP medal, make sure that you reward (6) players, since AA players are not eligible to accrue HOF points.
Note; The MVP Player's Medal for players playing on a (AAA, Major< & Major Plus teams) is a team MVP recognition and is not eligible for HOF points.
Enough said, I am getting ready for the TOC.

Discussion: Hall of Fame Points

SSUSA Staff: Thanks, my original question per the private email was how many ATP players + MVP selection were awarded to a team winning the Vegas World Championship. Your response triggered the question on whether or not the MVP received points for the HOF, the answer is NO. I did review the HOF requirements called out on the SSHOF website. The player(s) path to be eligible to be nominated for the HOF:
Point System Nomination Path
Who is eligible?
All nominees must be a minimum of 60 years old, have participated a minimum of 10 years in senior softball, and may begin earning nomination points at age 50. The following are the identified
categories that are available for nominations:
Player
Players may earn the following points from playing in National or World Senior Tournaments.
Major Plus & Major Classification 1 st Team All Tournament 1 Point
AAA 1st Team All Tournament ½ Point
A player must have a minimum of 8 total points to be considered for nomination. The player must provide booklets with the following information:
 Completed NSSHOF Application
 Picture of the nominee in uniform
 Pictures of all the All-World or All-American awards
 Newspaper Articles or written documents
 Letters of recommendation from former Managers, Players, Sponsors, or NSSHOF Members

Why doesn't the MVP of World Championship team accrue HOF Points? The MVP medal is given to all managers at the World Championship games in Vegas, you select one player from your team to receive the medal. I have given the MVP medal to players in the past, thinking those players would receive HOF points, but I understand from SSUSA that only ATP receive HOF points, not the MVP.
Capt Kirk
Note: In my opinion, If your team finishes 1-4 in the Vegas World Championship, the MVP selection should receive HOF points. Teams that finish 1-4 in the Vegas World Championship are awarded ATP's.

JB, under 11.1 rule of the rule book talks to SSUSA Hall of Fame and 11.2 talks to the National Fame of Fame (SPA). No details are called out.
Our the Hall of Fame requirements the same for SPA and SSUSA?
Note:
The President of our league,Bill Altman, who started San Antonio Senior Softball League (SASSL), should be nominated in a category that is appropriate= for the Hall of Fame.

SSUSA: Pls clarify the Hall of Fame Points for (5) ATP and (1) MVP when a team wins a championship in Vegas. I checked the rule book in the Hall of Fame Section and I was unable to find any info on hall of fame points.

A great tournament with great teammates: Rick (Mgr), Marty, Terry, Billy, Ron, Fred, Larry, Ken, Jim M, Jim B, Mad Dog, JB, Vince, Juan, Eddie, Elroy, Mando. We have been knocking on the door for the last 2 years, finally won a world championship, Sore all over, but a good feeling, Our Manager did a great job to prepare us and the guys showed up for BP every day. We are looking forward in playing in the TOC in Feb., hopefully we can heal up and be ready to go. The wives did a great job in supporting us during the tournament and tolerating our aches and pains stories.
