| June 12, 2017 gott2play | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Huntsman 2017 Dave (Dbax or Banned in Az), I agree that it's one of the best tournaments of the year, plus lots of outdoor things to do in St George. I've played the last three years and definitely noticed some sandbagging. However, the staff does a pretty good job of putting teams where they belong after the seeding games. Not sure how many games bringiton expects to play. Pretty much all tournaments we play are 5 game guarantees. Maybe he's a loser's bracket kind of guy, just kidding. It's quite the undertaking to put these games on, so I'm ok with the $79 and $10 I pay to register. Also, Huntsman's Games are more than just a softball tournament. See you in Sacramento or Vegas. | May 23, 2017 gott2play | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 2017 SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS Ed, After this past weekend in Cathedral City, you picked the perfect time to bring up the topic of night games. For those of you not present, a player from the So Cal Riptide team suffered a heart attack during play. Thanks to a number of people, but specifically a nurse in attendance and one of my teammates performing continuous chest compression's until paramedics arrived, this player is alive today. It was hot over the weekend, and felt much hotter than the actual temperatures. It was still over 100 degrees, so the topic of playing at night is not so out of line... particularly for the tournaments coming up during the "dog days" of summer. It'll still be warm for night games...just no sun beating down on you. Let's not talk about tournaments being about the survival of the fittest, war of attrition, who's in shape, who's not, but rather what change could be implemented to lower risks and improve player safety and/or well being. | Dec. 14, 2016 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Roster Player Classification Staff, So a 60 Major rated player playing DOWN two age groups on a 50 AAA team runs the risk of having his R/I history changed, thus eliminating him from playing 60 AAA (even as a chip) for two seasons? The way I look at it, a 60 Major rating s/b equivalent to a 50 AAA rating. Doesn't seem fair to the player...after all he is 60 plus. You're penalizing the player for "having to ability" to play in lower age group. Just trying to look at this rationally. Tony Baltazar Demolition - 60 Major Plus |

| July 29, 2016 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SOFTBALL SHOES AZTOMC, If price isn't an issue, checkout the Salomon Speedcross 3 Trail Running shoes. They are the most comfortable shoes you'll find. The Speedcross 4 model just came out so you may be able to get the 3's for about $90. The difference between the two is that the 4's gave a harder rubber bottom and different tread pattern. They carry at all REI stores. Good luck in your search. | April 4, 2016 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: DoublePlay 55 softball team dissolves Hey Bruster55, Way to let the dust settle before jumping on an opportunity, just kidding but a little serious at the same time. On a personal note. I'm sorry to hear about the dissolution of the Double Play Classic team. I've competed against fhem for the better part of seven years, and am friendly with many if not all the players from this very successful group. While our respective teams may have had our issues and disagreements from time to time, understand that we always respected you guys. Sometimes you've got to carry a little dislike for the team you want to beat. Much respect and best of luck to all of you, wherever that leads you. | March 28, 2016 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Jim Davis - NCI My condolences to the family and friends of Jim Davis. Although I never played for Jim or his NCI team, I did have the opportunity to chat with him years back, at which time he asked me how as an Asian I was so tall...quite a character he was, LoL. As stated by Kevin Evans, he was a fierce competitor, generous with his guys, and doing the best he could to put his team in the position to win. I recall many times him calling timeout, walking out in full uniform, taking his pitcher out...not asking, just doing...always managing. He'll be missed by many. RIP Jim. | March 18, 2016 gott2play | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Achilles Tendon Soreness Ed, Ice, ice, and more ice worked for me. I would also suggest trying CBD cream, or salve. It's a cannabidiol made from hemp. Since there's no THC in these products, they're legal. I'm also using a CBD alcohol rub. Do yourself a favor and do a Google search to gather information about the benefits of CBD products. Tony Baltazar So Cal 55 - Major Demolition 60 Major Plus |
| March 18, 2016 gott2play | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: St George Dave, I suspect that the upper levels (Major and Major Plus) will not be playing at the Little Valley complex because of homes beyond the outfield fences that are reachable for some, if not many. | March 2, 2016 gott2play | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Are possible changes ahead for future TOC tournaments B94, Not sure moving the tourney back two weeks would guarantee better weather. I've been to the TOC four times over the past six years and have had bad weather two of those years. The other two, the weather was great. We were just there this past February and had the Saturday afternoon games cancelled due to rain. We arrived for our 8am game on Sunday and were greeted with 40 degree temps and 25 plus MPH winds...not ideal softball weather. As long as the TOC is in Central Florida during the Feb time-frame, weather will be a consideration. |
