Discussion: Best Wishes to Terry Hennessy

I know I speak for my So Cal 55 and Top Gun Elite 60's teammates in sending Terry positive thoughts and prayers for successful treatment and recovery. We look forward to seeing you back soon.

Also, thank you for stressing the importance for all of us to have prostate exams. So many never do this for a myriad of ridiculous reasons and/or some old school thinking. Thank you for the public service announcement to the senior softball community. Hopefully, some thinking will shift.

You might want to talk with SSUSA as they show your team rated Major as of Nov. 4th.

Discussion: Online Renewal

Gentlemen,

I called the Sacramento office to ask the same question relative to why only the 1 year renewal option on-line. I just turned 59 a few days ago. I was told that the additional years option would be available to me on Nov. 1, after the Oct 31 expiration date of my current 55 card.

SSUSA, if this us incorrect, please clarify.

Rick,

Carlos Vega from Elite is the guy to talk to. He was in charge of the Elite booth at BLD on Sat and Sun when I was there for the 55's. I have his business card. Contact him at the following:

Thanks Mike,

With our first game being at 8am, my departure from home at 5:30am shouldn't pose a problem. Staying Saturday night in San Clemente, so no issue there either. I know some groups don't start until 5pm...now that's gonna be a problem. Good luck to you and your team.

Dave,

You've got this right. I played at the Aurora Sports Complex the last time the Western Nationals were held there, maybe 3 to 4 years ago. Great complex with 12 fields set up in three quads. The entire tournament at one facility, great for watching other teams. Huge fields surrounding the softball complex where teams can hit prior to games. I was initially concerned about the elevation and how many of us sea level dwellers would fare, but all went great.

Perhaps SSUSA will reconsider this venue for future Western Nationals.

Reggie,

Go to the FORMS tab and click on Player Registration. There you'll find instructions for renewal. I do not believe you'll receive any notification. However, whatever roster you're on will show if your registration is current of expired. Good luck.

Dave,

Appreciate the efforts you and your IT guy are putting forth in this area. Not sure, but maybe look into Microsoft Sharepoint which I used it in my prior work life. Master files are stored in a central repository, on your site which could be accessed by a limited few for real time updates. Files were usually in Excel or PowerPoint format for our applications, but could be in any other.

In order to maintain the integrity and protection of your IP, the files would remain in your repository in their edited format and be shared on the SSUSA website, possibly as a non-editable .pdf file.

Just thinking on the keyboard here.

Dawgbro,

First off, congrats on Wolfpack wining the Western Nationals. I've also relayed my congratulations to your teammate Ken Childress as I'll be playing with his team at the Huntsman Senior Games in October. My team, So Cal 55 will be in Vegas and look forward to competing against you guys.

Now to the issue you've raised. This has always been a bone of contention with many of us in the senior softball community. In some cases, the only tourney results posted are 1st, 2nd, and 3rd with absolutely no detail. Some of us would love to see game detail as a way to scout teams, to see how our competitors are fairing. When a Dave Dowell proclaims that he's the only guy to load this data, I see that as a problem, or as I like to say a single point failure. Certainly not a knock on Dave, just a statement of fact. I would suspect that SSUSA could certainly afford to bring in part time help to do the post tournament data entry work. It would certainly keep the customer base less vocal on this board.

SSUSA, is there a possibility of your tournament bracket files being uploaded as a shared file where each Director would be able to access and update real time? There are certainly business software programs that allow for file sharing. Worth a look...maybe?

Just my two cents.

Discussion: Spring Worlds Result

Dave and Bert,

Thanks for the congratulatory comments, they're much appreciated. An improbable run through the loser's bracket starting with a 17 run open inning Saturday night against Rocky Mountain Thunder got us to Sunday knowing we would have to beat Double Play, Top Gun 55's, and the Old Dawgs just to get the task of trying to double dip a very good Tucson Bandits team.

We all want to go through the winner's bracket, but sometimes sitting around having to wait for your opponent can have a negative effect. And Dave, I also know that losing one of your big hitters between games was beneficial to us. Softball....crazy game.

We'll see you guys in Vegas next month.

Discussion: Spring Worlds

E4/E6,

SSUSA is pretty consistent in alternating St. George and Mesquite for this tournament, meaning that if you played in St. George last year (which the 60's did) then it's only logical that you'd be in Mesquite this year (which you are). I understand things can change, but as a rule they've been pretty damn consistent.

I know that this doesn't help you and your team at this point, although you could check hotels in St. George and still cancel your rooms in Mesquite...so long as you haven't prepaid for them. SSUSA also suggests booking rooms in both locations until assignments are released. Easier said than done, but now you know. Good luck to you and your team.

Discussion: Rating Question

SSUSA Staff,

Is your "yes" response the only answer, or is it assuming that Dolfan anticipates playing both 50's and 55's next year? I was under the assumption that if Dolfan forgoes playing 50's to play 55's only, he could play Major and be classified as such.

It seems unfair that when moving to the next age group he has to carry the Major Plus tag, especially odd when his team the So Cal Vandals were one of those 50 Major teams bumped up without ever winning a major tourney.

Thanks,

Discussion: What to do with trophies, uniforms, tee-shirts?

2bornot2b,

I've seen many, mostly women's team take the shirts and have blanket/quilts out of them. The logo on the chest area of the shirt is cut out as a square and sewn onto and existing blank blanket/quilt patchwork style on both sides. There are companies that do this, but they can be pricey depending on size. Maybe you know someone who can do this for you. Just a thought.
