Discussion: Any results yet for the 50 major?

I hope everything gets sorted out and someone can come up with a much more simplified way to put together a LEGAL roster so all these little technicalities shouldn't have to be applied in order to justify a champion.
Can someone tell me if a 55M team can play in the 50AAA division next year? - Just asking!

So what will be the outcome?..... Lots of "fishy" moves here that don't add up. How can a 40M+ player be eligible for the 50M if in fact he did play? Didnt they make a rule when a 55M+ team won the 50M a few years ago? Question: Can a 55M team play in the 50AAA division next year in Vegas? How does a team get re-rated after playing one tournament when others can't because of the "rules" that are pretty clear?

Discussion: Jose Moreno's Bat challenge

With all the crap about about altered bats in our game today - Yes there are altered bats in probably every tournament, I think they had more than probable cause to check the bat when they saw the end cap misaligned. It is unfortunate that it has come to this but I would rather see them being proactive than non receptive when there is a bat in question. Played in a tournament earlier this year when our team told a TD about a questionable bat that we felt was being used. He told us that unless the ump had reason to pull the bat there was nothing he could do. I guarantee this type of crap is going to happen more and more as long as bats are able to be shaved for max distance. If SSUSA was so concerned about player safety, they would go to a softer ball where a shaved bat is no advantage at all. Can't understand why they are so worried about a possible collision at home which warrants the use of 2 home plates - but when it comes to using a shaver.... not so concerned.

Discussion: shaved bats

I believe they can stop it if they really wanted to. One. Compression test the bats. Just competed in a state ASA tournament and every bat was tested, which everyone knew in advance. Bats that failed were held until after the tournament. Two. TD's have to be more vigilant when players tell them directly about a "suspected" bat that is being used and they don't even bother to check it out. I have never seen a bat pulled yet or even questioned because of the unspoken rule about that sort of stuff. I think SSUSA does an awesome job of making the game safe in every other aspect but the bat issue. Like the the above posters have stated, the problem is getting worse...not going away. When you have a rule in place for having more than 1 layer of tape on your bat and ignore a team's request to at least inspect a bat it just doesn't make any sense. If you need to shave a senior bat to be able to hit...it is time to put down the bat and pick up the clubs before someone gets killed playing a game.

Can you play for more than one team in the same division (55 major) during the season?

- Thanks in advance

Discussion: Sun rule

Hey Dave,

This was the committee's best ruling in a long time.Played in a so called "sun game" this year. Both pitchers had an impossible task of hitting the mat when they were pitching from an angle and the mat was not. When the pitcher brought it up to the umpire the ump clearly did not know what to do and left the mat straight. This resulted in both pitchers walking the park and BOTH were stalling until the sun rule was lifted, Great Job SSUSA.

Played there a few years ago and the fields were not that great. I was wondering if any positive changes were made to any of the fields there recently and if so....to what fields?

thanks in advance!

Discussion: What is the Proper Ruling

I agree with you Dbax - if the guy never made an attempt and intentionally didn't try...then he is a tool, plain and simple. If the guy really had a "senior moment" or never caught before, and had a deer in the headlights moment, then I could understand. But if my team "lent" me to another team for a league game, I would exact revenge by trying extra hard just to piss them off and after the game have some fun in the parking lot breaking them off - especially if I had a really good game! :)

First off....catcher is a tool for doing that. Second....it is only league and not a tourny so no big deal. 3rd - should have made your pickup tow the mound...would have kept the other team from shooting box! :)

If you can find the older Rip It "Reaper" (black)bat you won't be disappointed. It crushes the "mush" balls and is an ASA bat. Although I don't play ASA anymore, I just recently cracked mine doing something foolish.

Discussion: The new sun rule 6.16

Not too sure about this rule. Right handed batter states he can't see due to sun.... left handed pitcher moves 6ft to the right - into the line of fire for many righty pull hitters.... Now he has to hit the plate from an angle he is not normally used to. Pretty tough for a lefty pitcher to now pitch inside when he is at that angle unless he can throw one heck of a curve. lol. How many advantages does the batter need that they don't already have?

Discussion: Words of Wisdom

The 11th defender would help big time. No matter what anyone says....the easiest place to get a hit will always be up the middle. If a had a dollar for every person who adjusts his feet, changes his swing, whatever just to buzz middle and then say "sorry pitch," I could fully retire. If the 11th man was in place, there would still be the real mishits up the middle but would definitely reduce the "accidental" ones, especially from the good hitters. I pitch and dont really care either way. But if you play a team that consistently does it intentionally then you hope your team will back you and "miss hit" a few right back.

Discussion: Can you use a 2015 USSSA bat?

Swing...you are right if you are that type of hitter. I used to try to do the same thing with the heavy bats although my bat speed suffered. Thats what I was kind of alluding to in my above post. There are a couple of non senior bats that definitely hit it better in the humid wet air. Other than that, the senior bats are better out of the wrapper than any other association.

hey swing...not tryin to start an argument with you because that is not my style. Just saying that there "might" be a few bats out there that hit the 375 core a "little" better than the thin walled senior bats in the hot and humid weather. And I am not talking about "modified" bats either. There are some bats outside of the senior bats that hit those 44/375's better in the humidity than a super thin walled bat.

Was wondering if you can use any of the new 2015 Utrip bats in SSUSA sanctioned tournaments?..... I saw on this site that some Utrip bats were listed - was wondering if all bats rated under 1.20 are allowed. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Discussion: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RULING • WMC 50-Major Matter

Cat43 - you make all valid points and I dont disagree with you at all. I just feel that a good 55M+ team will be able to send a LOT of the 50M teams home, which hurts the integrity of the 50M division . That was my point. I do agree with you about the top 50M teams being able to beat the 55M+ teams that wants to enter - but what about the mid level team that might be there for the first time? - they go home because they they get knocked out by a bunch of 55M+ players? - you would probably be inclined to follow suit and look to cheery pick some of these outstanding 55M+ players.

I really do feel that they should have a 50-60 open division because thats what they will be having shortly the way the rules are now. I could care less because I love facing the best teams, no matter division we play.

Discussion: EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR RULING • WMC 50-Major Matter

---- Just some food for thought... No matter how you want to spin it, there were more 55 major plus players in the championship game than 50 major players. Very simple solution but the SSUSA might lose out on some cash if for some reason a FEW less teams are in because they wont be able to pick up half a team to take to championships. The above poster had it right.... just call it the 50-60 open division and lets play.... I bet you would see a lot more stronger teams. Because that is what is going to happen anyway...one team at a time. Same thing started with the bats... Once you start losing to teams that are doing things that dont seem right, you will have other teams following just to keep up.
