Just out of curiosity, when was the date of the last official SSUSA sanctioned tournament played? Any guesses?

Without getting political, I wouldn't vote for her ilk for dogcatcher. Don and the boys have been out hitting, hopscotching from field to field, we'll be at the next undisclosed location Wednesday.....

Stickman, Provided Governor Gestapo Gretchen lifts the restrictions at the end of May we will start play the 2nd week in June. The league board is currently mulling over safety guidelines with that start date in mind.

Got an email from our manager yesterday: The Dearborn, MI 'Swings for Rings' SSUSA tournament scheduled for July 11-12 has been cancelled.

I thought H1N1 (swine flu) was discontinued because of abnormally high rates of Guillain-Barre syndrome associated with it. That one is still out there worldwide yet we continue to play and recreate as normal. I believe the 1968 pandemic (Hong Kong flu) didn't curtail Woodstock at all. The flu shots we get (I got one this year) does not cover every strain, it's a gamble on what will be the most likely strain to appear. If we're going to close the country every time a virus morphs we'll never open up. A friend of mine who won't retire still drives a beer truck. His route is mainly party stores in the worst areas of Detroit which has been hit hard. This week his employer just started giving the drivers masks yet he's not missed a day and is fine. But I'm sure people on both sides have such anecdotal evidence. So tight there that tells me that as far as viruses go, we should have reopened the country long ago.

Governor Nuisance is mild compared to the Mayor of LA. He said something to the effect that he no plans to open up until the virus is gone or a vaccine is developed. There is no H1N1 vaccine, there is no flu vaccine, there is no AIDS vaccine, there is no common cold vaccine, what's he saying?

Man, that's like an appendix to the rule book. So, like the rule book, what is the 'penalty' for a violation?

Y'all can do what you want to, but I don't envision myself, my team or many others who would be willing to travel a significant distance and lay out time and money for a tournament that from the get go is listed as a 1 pitch tournament. Wouldn't a simpler solution (and I bet this will happen for this 'season' anyway) those that want to play will be required to sign a specific separate waiver dealing with the virus?

I believe the statistics were world wide, I came in from doing yardwork (what else) and caught the tail end of the guest segment. In any event, my point was anyone wanting 24/7/365 government assured cradle to grave protection are going to be disappointed. ANYTIME whether or not you even leave your home you are gambling to a point with your life, anything can happen. Out of all the people who visit this site how many will eventually depart this earthy existence due to virus versus other causes? Remember folks, when you leave for that first post-virus game, don't get run over by a 1953 Flexble bus stuck in reverse being driven by a 9 year old in vintage Quick Draw McGraw pajamas and careening out of control on a Friday at 9 am with semi-damp pavement.....

Heard another expert on TV today, the chances of dying from it are 1 in 50,000, the chances of dying from being struck by lightening are 1 in 3000. You tell me....

Thanks for reply. I know the message board is not the venue to make suggestions to the board but I hope mine is at least bandied about under the 'New Business' item on the agenda.

Lightening, possibly it depends on who they are getting their orders from within the 'administration'. Are we going to get a rebate on city taxes for the parks and other services we cannot use?

Right on Wood. Rather be a rebel than cower at shadows. Our drop in group has had to deal with law enforcement on a few occasions too.

I don't know if this has already been done or discussed but I think it may be worthy of at least considering. With softball alone, the myriad of organizations (SSUSA, SPA, ISA, ISSA, ASA/USA, USSSA, NSA, WSA, etc) has anyone given a thought to a conference call and drafting a letter outlining the enormous revenues generated by amateur softball alone. Hotels, planes, rental cars, food, gasoline, across the entire spectrum of amateur sports of all ages and different sports the revenues are huge to more than the surrounding areas. Send that letter to governors, state and national representatives and let them know that aside from the monetary suffering the physical and mental impact of not competing and relieving stress takes perhaps an even larger unseen toll health wise. Just my 2 cents. (I've always got a pocketful of change!)

Stifling speech does no good either. I suppose the Chinese virus started in Poland, eh? If you're in search of PC culture try a safe room on an ivy league campus.

The 'complainers' would have been the dead seniors in Michigan's nursing and senior homes that got sick and died when our governor instituted the wrong policy of sending Chinese virus patients to their buildings. It's hard to complain from the coffin. Maybe others (friends & families)are complaining on their behalf. You can talk about protection all you want, how about the peripheral damage to this fiasco? The increases in opioid abuse, domestic violence, depression/suicide, lost homes and businesses, destruction of savings and investments, deaths and increased severity of illnesses or beginnings of severe illnesses not being diagnosed in the early stages due to medical closings. In Michigan over 300 dentists have signed onto a letter begging the governor to allow them to re-open. Quite simply, if you are looking for 24/7/365 protection it will never happen. There has never been a societal framework that could accomplish that task. I too am disappointed that politics has come to this site but the current state of affairs is effecting the normal function of this site too. You cannot talk about a rash without discussing the cause.

Residing in a 'Blue state' our pick-up group has been relegated to finding tucked away obscure fields and areas in which to swing....sad, I guess that's why they call 'blue states' 'blue'.

Well we've 'flattened the curve' as instructed to do, the rest is politics. I'll go out on limb here, it was never about flattening the curve as much as it's been stringing this whole fiasco along until election day in November. Michigan's governor is auditioning to be Biden's VP pick and she's using the State's citizens and her ham-handed tactics as her resume. I firmly believe that Americans are having the normality of their lives uprooted, their jobs, lifesavings/retirements and family security jeopardized, and their social connections and friendships severed all for the sake of politics and power.

CURVEBALL, I'd be happy to tell you "what's gotten into people". Politically driven largely baseless panic whipped up and fomented by an all too eager media that is largely politically compromised itself. Here in Michigan our governor sued a 77 year old barber in Owasso, MI because he defied her order to stay closed. The governor lost in court so the very next day, without so much as a hearing she and her like mined attorney general had his license revoked. THIS is what it's come down to.

I purchased a Foreign Legion style olive drab cap at an Army-Navy store a while back. Another option would be to modify a regular ball cap. Could be done with Velcro and any style cloth or cooling cloth and the Velcro would allow you to remove the cloth and wash it.
