June 28 dud 11 posts | r THANKS taits, but the does this rule cover a scorekeeping error that makes the home team the winners when the scorekeeper corrects his error of thinking the game was tied when the winning rule scored before the second out? |
June 28 taits Men's 65 4548 posts | r The OFFICIAL books are the ones they go by. But this might be a case for the Protest committee if the error was found by the other party with books. page 89 Rule 16.2. Rules are here on line, under the tournaments in red listing above. |

June 28 stick8 1992 posts | r Dud, in this scenario you have to go with the designated official scorekeeper. I suppose this would be protestable but I'm not certain how it would turn out. As an ump I always make sure the score is agreed upon by both teams after every inning. It avoids a situation as you described. In the event of a disagreement I get the scorekeepers for both teams together to go over the scoring. It's usually resolved in a matter of a minute or two. The main thing is to get it right. |
June 30 Webbie25 Men's 70 2414 posts | r Right on, as usual, stick8. We are not pros here. The idea is to get it right. The only harm here was 2 extra batters, but if the home team can show they did score the runs, you have to give it to them. This has happened to us and we were on the wrong end of it, but accepted the correct decision. It is also another of the little things that make a good umpire-to check every inning to make sure the score is right and agreed upon. |
June 30 stick8 1992 posts | r Thanks Webbie25. It's really not rocket science to make sure everything is right. You certainly don't want have a team get screwed out of a run which could end up being the tying or deciding run, especially in a tournament where a team has spent money traveling. As a player I sure like to know if my team is up or down and by how many runs. |
