Posted | Discussion |
March 17 JCColorado 25 posts | I am new to the coaching routine, what is the process for notifying coaches of changes to the schedule? I see now it is forecast to rain (over 50% each day) each day of the planned tournament and highs just over 50 degrees. We are sure looking forward to being back on the field, but not in the rain and cold. |
March 17 DaveDowell Men's 70 4415 posts | JCColorado ... SSUSA does NOT cancel a tournament based on a forecast ... All "Play/No-play" decisions are made at the fields of play at game time ... You will hear, and be fully informed, as any decisions are made ... Example: In the 2022 Atlantic Coast Championships in Raleigh, a storm forecast created an event withdrawal panic the week of the tournament ... Twelve teams withdrew in the last three days for a tournament that lost exactly ZERO games to weather ... The only downside we noticed for the teams is that all of them forfeited their $555 entry fee ... Let's try to avoid that happening here ... The fields in St. George, and the professionals who maintain them, are excellent for any potential adverse weather impacts that might happen ... The onsite tournament director (me) will be happy to talk with you about it when you get here... The weather is gorgeous here in Mesquite this morning for the start of the 60+ Divisions ... Safe travels and good luck! |
March 18 sdc 35 posts | To bad about the weather. Good luck be safe. My friend just called me his team voted today not to go to Mesquite and they were already registered |

March 19 DieselDan Men's 75 608 posts | On the SSUSA's SPRING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2023 • "DRAFT" Game Schedules & Brackets section, the author of the latest post mentioned "forecast-panic has claimed another victim". With the way this Fall and Winter storms have been, and mostly accurate, I don't think players are in a panic. |
March 20 Brock Men's 80 89 posts | For Dave Dowell. I assume you'll hear from Ron Howard/Dennis Lutz but the Scrap Iron 80s decided to cancel last night. With the rain forecast at 40 to 90% every day for five days from Sunday through Thursday we decided it was a lot cheaper to forfeit our entry fee than everyone paying to get to St. George with chances of playing slim and none. |
March 20 sdc 35 posts | Not much you can do about the weather Hope the tournament goes well. Funny I posted that my friends team canceled then a little later our manager notified our team that we were opting out. What can you do |
March 20 DaveDowell Men's 70 4415 posts | Thanks Greg, I appreciate the heads-up ... According to Accuweather.com at 8:00 AM PDT Monday, the TOTAL rainfall projected for Tuesday through Thursday in St. George is 1.05" ... That's probably not going to have City Hall putting out an A.P.B. for Noah to get the boat ready ... We're going to have a good tournament, wish you were here ... |
