Oct. 12, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Winter National - Ft Meyers Mr Bill 29 -- Senior Moments is in the process of forming a 70 National team for 2013. I am sure both SSUSA and SPA will rate us as a Major. If you play in the Florida Half Century, see me at Polk County in November or call me. Shelby Simmons 407-257-5522 Note: Any other players in Florida that are interested in playing on a national 70 team, please contact me. NO SNOWBIRDS |
Oct. 3, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: SPA WORLD SERIES -- JACKSONVILLE, FL Any 65 Major teams planning on attending the Jacksonville event? Senior Moments 65 will attend if some other teams will be there also. |
Sept. 26, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: player eligibility Speaking of TOC. What is the rule for players that SSUSA registration ID expires at the end of 2012? Since they were playing on 2012 ID when they qualified, will they still be eligible to play? |
Sept. 24, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Tournament in Panama City, October 19-21 Tom: Our Senior Moments 65 team is in a holding pattern. Several of our players are moving to the 70's, including me. The 65's are looking for a manager and their plans now only include the SPA World Series in Jacksonville and the SSUSA Tournament of Champions in February. We wish we could attend Pensacola and Panama City. We really enjoy the friendship and sportsmanship of the Panhandle Hitmen. Not to mention the competitive games. Maybe we will see you in Jax and Florida. Good luck in Las Vegas, Shelby |
July 9, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TOURNAMENT WINNER AUTO MOVEUP Anyone like to share their opinion on the "auto moveup" rule for winning a national event? As with most any title, winners should get a chance to defend their title. Most of the tournament winners could just have easily finished 2-3 spots lower. What is wrong with allowing a team to defend their title? There are already limits to how many upper division players they can add and remain the same class. Just asking? |
May 9, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Brickyard Although Senior Moments did not attend this tournament, it is an issue that effects all senior teams. For instance, the Disney Complex in Florida wil charge players $5-$10 per day to play in their events. We live in Florida and will not pay to play in a Disney event. They have already received an entry fee of $400-$600 per team. It is Senior Moments team policy that we will not play in an event that charges a gate fee for players or family. The money for travel expense our money donated to the local economy when we are in their town should offset any gate fees. Why pay additional fees to play? It should be the sponsoring group responsibily to negotiate the player / family gate charges. The age level for gate charges should not be a factor in any event that you have paid an entry registration. No players or family should pay. |

Feb. 27, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Got a empty box in the mail Dissapearing bat located! The bat was found at a UPS terminal and luckily I had the serial number photoed and could identify the bat. Still wonder how the bat came out of the box. Package was sealed with brown tape and it had clear tape over the brown tape on the box when delivered. I ship many bats I do know how to tape a box. I am sure it was just an accident. Doesn't matter now, the bat is on the way back to Florida, Zman refunded, and the bat will find another happy owner. Zman said he has located another bat, more money though. I must have sold my bat too cheap. |
Feb. 23, 2012 Senior Moments | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Got a empty box in the mail I am sure Zman will post that his Empty Box problem has been handled. Filed claim with UPS and refunded within 5 minutes of hearing of the missing contents in the box. If anyone can help Zman with an Ultra II 28, with ASA stamps, please inform him. Shelby |
Nov. 11, 2011 Senior Moments | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 2012 Tournament Entry Fee Increase Brett: We can now factor in the cost of softballs at 2012 tournaments. Winter National teams received (6) new balls for the tournament and if they needed additional balls, the cost was $5.00 each ($60 a dozen). |

Aug. 19, 2011 Senior Moments | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 65 age playing in 60 division It seems that there is a differce in eligibility between SSUSA and SPA as to playing in two age divisions. My questions is: Is a player allowed to play on a 65 AAA and a 60 Major team? Example: Played in a National event with 60 Major and has already qualified for nationals with a 65 AAA team. Can the player play still play with the 65 AAA? |

June 21, 2011 Senior Moments | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: When is an equalizer not equal??? Bruce -- Senior Moments 65's decided to withdraw when the schedule was released on Monday before our travel day of Thursday and there were only 12 teams entered. (no refund, but we got a FREE ($500) bat for being one of the first 20 teams entered. After reviewing the schedule, there were 14 of 18 seeding games schedluled with "equalizers". Our bracket play would include a 75+ team with a double equalizer. It was not worth the $400 to $600 per player in expenses to attend such an event. This type of event does not benefit anyone or promote senior softball. Sometimes is is better to "cut your loses" and cancel an event. We made the decision to not attend, costing us our $500 entry fee , but we will remember it when planning our tournament attendance in the future. |
June 16, 2011 Senior Moments | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Option to withdraw???? Bruce -- The Aiken registration deadline was extended a week and a free Combat bat was used as an incentive to enter. I attempted to get information about which teams would be attending and no one would inform me. The schedule was released 5 days before the start of the tournament. Reviewing the list of 12 total teams it indicated that there were 4 symbols denoting "equalizer" games. This meant 14 of the 18 seeding games were playing with an "equalizer". All brackets would be using an "equalizer" in bracket play except the 70 Major Plus. What kind of tournament competition is this? Senior Moments 65 decided to withdraw for "competition" and "economic" reasons. While I wholly disagree with the SSUSA refund policy, it became evident we could save each player $400-$600 by withdrawing and not playing a 75 age group team. I feel that communication between the Tournament Directors and the teams would benefit everyone. Why not release a list of teams 2 weeks before the tournament date and allow teams to spend their money wisely? My suggestion would be to allow teams to withdraw if their bracket play did not have a minimum of 4 teams of the same class in their bracket. The fact is, with the current refund policy, the TD makes more money when a team withdraws. I wish all the teams that are playing the best. |
