Discussion: Finger Protection

I would have to agree with Wayne, use a plastc finger splint. Slide it on and use surgical tape around it in a couple of places. This will prevent the finger from bending and you can get it in your glove easy enough. Ive also broken the pinky finger on my glove hand and was able to play with the splint.

Discussion: Renewal

Ive used the link that was on my home profile page in the past. There used to be a link there at the end of the year if card was expired for the upcoming year. The last time i renewed my card in 2018 i don't remember the link being there. Just call the office during regular hours tho and someone will get that handled for you quick and easy.

Discussion: LVSSA/SSUSA

Well said Softball4b. A big thank you to SSUSA for putting in the extra time and effort in securing us fields to play on. This was our 1st event this year and we werent sure what we would look like but it didnt matter, we just wanted to play again.

Agree 100% on the umpires, we had umpires running to get into position to make a call. Every umpire we had were very good. The directors at the fields, Tim M at Little Valley and Jerry at The Canyons were awesome and helpful. We had a great time & cant wait to take the field again. All the teams we played were class acts as well.

Props to SSUSA and staff, you guys nailed it in a very difficult year.

Discussion: C19 at Worlds.

A little disturbing to read that a couple of players had tested positive that were staying at the Hampton Inn & Suites. Our team also stayed there last week and weekend. 2 of our teammates took the test yesterday before we were all notified of the positive tests of a couple of teammates. They took the test just as a precaution. Then today we found out that we stayed at the same hotel. Early evening today both of our players were notified that their tests were negative. That is a big relief. Im putting this out there as i know there was players from other teams staying there as well.

I hope for a full and speedy recovery for the players that have contracted the virus.

Discussion: Shirts and Caps at the Worlds

Carl, in a normal year you could find any shirt you wanted on the 2nd day of play if you didnt pick 1 up on the 1st day. This unfortunately is not a normal year and im sure that was partly the issue with shirts at the Westerns. The printer doeant want to get stuck with a bunch of specific tourney shirts that are dated.

You should have no problem at the Worlds in St George but id probably advise if it is important to you to have one, id grab one the 1st day.

Good luck !

Greinke actually yells out what pitch is coming when Pablo, the Brandons & Pence are up.

The world series years in SF are definitely over for a while. Not complaing tho, i would have been happy to see 1 in my lifetime, instead got to see 3 in 5 years !

Discussion: WESTERN NATIONALS

Best of luck to everyone attending the Westerns. I hope everyone follows saftey protocols and represents our sport in a positive way. If the "Powers to Be" are on the fence on allowing "senior softball" to take place startng next month at the Masters in Vegas, they very well could look at how serious and the precautions that we took in St George.

Stay safe fellas !

Omar , you are correct. The temp fences they use on McGarvey ( baseball field ) are a nice setup. You dont run thru those when they are connected. Those had to be very expensive. Its nice to see some of our tax dollars put to work.

Dave, we would like an early start time then, that way i can grab some tools at Home Depot before our game and won't have to wait in line outside for 20 minutes before i can go into the store !

All of the Casinos in Nevada are open with thousands of people inside, yet playing softball outdoors, getting a little exercise is not allowed ? Drove by Graton Casino in wine country 2 weeks ago, its open, the parking lot was packed full of cars. I cant believe county officials allowed that to open.

If it was moved to Reno, you could call it Rock 'N Westerns.

Id like to 2nd Wood 1966's idea. Move it to Reno if fields there are available. I know its easier said than done but opening up in Cali in a month could be an issue.

Discussion: Catchers will wear a mask

How long does an average half inning take where you play ? Since the 1 - 1 count has been implemented half innings are much faster. There is no more waiting for a strike to hit the bat before the bat comes off the shoulder and the batter is ready to swing.

No one wants to wear a mask, but if that is what is required so be it. I work outside usally in the direct sun, i have a couple of accounts which have asked me to wear a mask while im there even tho no one is around me while imnworking. I know temps at times have been 100 and worked for a few hours with a mask on. I dont like it but ive never felt like it hampered my breathing. I know its a lot more strenous than tossing a softball back to the pitcher ( ok, 6 minutes at a time ). The point is, if you cant handle being out there for 5 minutes or more, you shouldn't be out there.

As far as litigation goes, is someone going to have a pre existing condition, play anyway , get sick and then sue ? For that id say is BS. Shouldnt the player decide whether they can perform under that requirement and own their own decision ? You shouldnt be allowed to have it both ways. No one is making anyone play, its a decision made by each player if they want to participate or not.

Discussion: Catchers will wear a mask

Is a catcher wearing a mask for 5 minutes at a time really putting themselves at risk ? Is the catcher better off not wearing one at all ? Do you think for a moment that it is SSUSA idea for catchers to wear a mask or could it be possibly an idea to present to countys and park and rec depts to show what will be done so we can take ghe field again ?

If a player cannot wear a mask for 5 minutes without having some type of health risk or breathing obstruction he shouldnt be out there in the first place. The threat of a lawsuit is such BS.

For those that have concerns about their safety, its understandable. There is so much contradictory information its hard to decipher who and what to believe. Id like to think with a little common sense & social distancing we would be ok to play. Id rather follow what ever guidelines that we are asked to follow so we can get back on the field then sit at home for another month.

Discussion: Catchers will wear a mask

If he has chronic breathing / respiratory conditions it would probably not be a good idea to play. If the guy still wants to play, put him at 2nd or 1st if the mask bothers him. No doctor is going to give a guy in that condition a note saying he should be allowed to play without a mask.

Benji4, as much as i hate to admit it, i think you are right. Cali, Wash & Mich more than likely will be among the last states to open up for softball.
