Topic: Rules of the game
Discussion: 2 INTERESTING CALLS/ACTIONS OF UMPIRES @ ROCK 'N' RENO CHALLENGE CUP

The first thing would be logical if the pitcher was wasting time, batter in the box and runner at first.

The second thing doesn't make since "The Umpire shall prevent entry of a courtesy runner "during" the at bat" It doesn't say after the first pitch?

Or maybe that rule needs to be rewritten and say after the first pitch, otherwise "the Umpire shall prevent entry of a courtesy runner "during" the at bat"

What I was saying is it shouldn't be up to the umpires to "Coach" a team as to what is a legal move, they should be there to enforce the rules and make calls. The runner wasn't asking the Umpire if he could have a runner he was asking his team to get him a runner, correct me if I'm wrong if he had gotten someone to run for him and the runner touched the bag he would have been an illegal runner and be out.

again:
No disrespect to Umpires (they have a tough job) or any team that this may have happened to I am just looking for clarity in the rules.

I had 2 things interesting things happen that seemed to me the umpires were making things up.

The first thing was the pitcher walked a batter and while he was walking to 1st before the next batter got into the box the pitcher (off the mound) threw the ball to the short stop and the short stop threw it back the Umpire called a ball on the batter.
Was this a correct call?

The other thing that happened was there was a runner on first and the next batter had been thrown a pitch the runner called out to his dugout that he wants a runner and instead of letting the team make the error and receive an out the Umpire said, "NO that is not allowed". He said he was allowed to do that.
Wouldn't that be considered Coaching that team and shouldn't be allowed?

No disrespect to Umpires (they have a tough job) or any team that this may have happened to I am just looking for clarity in the rules for the future or if it was just made up rules by the Umpires.

Feel free to comment on one or both things.

Thanks

Discussion: Reebok Barrage

You should send it back to Reebok
Reebok Senior Bat R&D
1895 JW Foster Blvd.
Canton, MA 02021
Send it with a letter asking for a refund explaining that you have been a loyal Reebok customer and the bat started to peel after 5th hit be sure to give them your contact information. When I did this they contacted me right when they got it and gave me a full refund.
Good Luck

I got my Barrage this past Sat. went to try it out on Sunday Beautiful day 70 degrees and sun shining in California. I was hitting 44/375 balls and hitting my other bats first to get warmed up I swing 30oz DeMarini Stadiums that I hit very well. Alan suggested that I purchase a 29oz Barrage said it had more of an end load feel to it than the 30oz. I agree with the feel it does feel a bit more end loaded but possibly the flex of the handle has a bit more to do with it. I hit two balls with it and went to hit a third and I could hear a distinct rattle in the barrel like something inside the bat broke loose a piece of glue from the end cap maybe????

I reported the rattle to Alan and he responded it’s usually the case with one that flexes early.

I responded with a question to him about what does flex have to do with a rattle and should I be worried about the durability of the bat?

He replied that is your blessing.

So I was wondering if anyone on this thread has had this happen to their bat and if it is defective is there a way to get it replaced or a refund?

BTW hottest bat I have ever hit was hitting at a Baseball field 325+ fences and cleared the fence with ease several times!

Also I agree with you A dik more mass through the hitting zone with speed equals harder hit balls sorry I didn’t learn it from the big bang theory I learned it from watching old clips of Babe Ruth I think he used to hit with a 54oz bat.

Discussion: 2000 Freak 98

In 2000 when bats were rated for ASA they were also rated for USSSA because the ASA had a BPF rating of .98 and USSSA had a BPF rating of 1.20 with the same test process. They have both changed to different test procedures and different ratings now so you need to check with your local league if they will still allow the bat to be used. As far as price it should go for about $100.00 approx. but with the rating change sell it now. I have one of these by the way and it is a HOT bat for ASA league.

Discussion: A few questions about a tourney I was in over the weekend.

I had another question if you guys are up to it. I was curious about the bat warmers that I have seen at some of the tournaments that I have been to. I thought that bat altering was against the rules warming a bat can increase the ability of the bat, therefore wouldn't that be considered altering? one of the leagues I play in will not allow those microwaveable heat pad bat warmers to be used isn't that the same thing? I looked it up in the rules it says.
3.4(4) • ALTERED EQUIPMENT A bat or ball is considered altered when the physical characteristics of a legal softball bat or ball have been changed (EXAMPLE: chilling softballs). Replacing the handle of a metal bat with a wooden or other type handle, inserting material inside the bat, applying excessive tape (more than two layers) to the bat grip or painting a bat other than at the top or bottom for identification purposes are considered altering the bat. Replacing the grip with another legal grip is not considered altering the bat.

I know it would of made no difference yes I could see the numbers, like I said I didn't make a big stink about it, the point of my questions were to clarify the rules. So let me ask again....Same Uniform, two different teams in the same bracket is that ok?
My other question about the ball near the dugout was just clarification as well. Again I know it made not difference you guys kicked our butt but I was just curious.
