Discussion: WORLDS AND NEW 4 DAY FORMAT

I think it could have been kept at 3 days if we had unencumbered access to all the fields each day. But different leagues around Vegas don't give up the fields for our tournament which lowers our inventory. I don't say this in any official capacity. This tournament was once in the 300 team range, and now it's over 600. Logistics!

Maybe SSUSA is doing the 4 days on a test basis, not sure.

When we play at BLD, we always practice at Cheyenne Sports Complex (see SSUSA tournament page). There's plenty of room just outside of the 4 fields at Cheyenne to practice. It's within 10 minutes of BLD.

I was out at Desert Breeze this morning and they had portable outfield fencing for a Little League tournament. Dave, are you saying that the fence will be made permanent at some point, thereby precluding us from using it in the future?

A special thanks to Dave for getting out a timely team assignment and schedule foe Mesquite & St. George. This is a big step forward for SSUSA as they've heard our complaints for some time about needing schedules in order for us to book rooms at the appropriate city. Good job.

Discussion: Is it time for Full Time Screen?

I played in a game with a pitcher's screen, and in the last inning a beautiful throw came in from center field that was sure to beat the tieing run. The bullet that the fielder threw hit the screen and ruined the win for us. It ruined the whole game.

Discussion: Magic Stuff

Those of us that play tournaments in the Southwest have probably seen the "Magic Stuff" sales at the ballparks. Just curious if you've had a good experience with it and what part of the body you've used it on. Apologize if this subject has come up before.

Discussion: Las Vegas Softball

So are you saying that Las Vegas, with it's world class hotels, gaming, restaurants, shopping and 14 complexes to field 600 teams is no bigger draw to senior softball Masters than, lets say Memphis or Kansas City?

TAT, don't know where you get your information, but those tournaments are not locked up for the next 10 years. If people don't like going to the same place every year, why has our tournament gone from 350 to 400+ to 500+ to now over 600 teams? SSUSA is running a business and I don't think they're going to a city that brings in 300 teams for the Masters. I could be wrong on that, but I don't think so.

Discussion: Las Vegas Softball

I was reading the article, “Arizona, Texas & Washington Among Top Tier SSUSA States” in the latest SSUSA Newsletter. It mentions great weather, fields and game conditions as a factor. How is Nevada not on this list? We play softball 52 weeks a year like Southern Arizona does. And if lack of rainouts are a factor as mentioned by Texas, Las Vegas gets about 4.5 inches a year and Reno about 7.5. Additionally, of the four biggest SSUSA tournaments played each year, THREE of them are in Nevada! Why is Washington on this list? Well, just take a look at where the publisher of the paper is from to get that answer.
Nevada offers top quality softball with great fields, weather and the LVSSA organization that helps run some of the best tournaments. While SSUSA chooses to minimize what Las Vegas Senior Softball contributes to the top two biggest sanctioned tournaments in the US, I’ll fill you in. We supply Assistant Directors to help sign in players along with other administrative duties. We help make arrangements for softball fields, as needed. We supply workers to all the fields to drag, broom and line the fields to maintain great conditions for the players. We supply water to the teams and keep the dugouts and facilities clean. The coordination for this and other duties takes a great effort to run a quality tournament. It’s called the LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters because Las Vegas Senior softball started this tournament many years ago, then later partnered with SSUSA. I won’t argue that SSUSA does the bulk of the work to run these tournaments, but people should know just how important LVSSA is to it.
Nevada, in my opinion IS a Top Tier SSUSA State.
These comments are not made in any official capacity with LVSSA or SSUSA.

Discussion: Las Vegas Tournament Sept. 8-10

The Kingman, AZ tournament has been cancelled. As a courtesy to the teams, Las Vegas Senior Softball will hold the tournament tentatively at Lorenzi Park on September 8-10.

This will be a great tuneup for teams playing in the World Masters.

Water jugs for each team are always available behind home plate in Las Vegas. We are trying to get power hoses for the infield at some of the complexes this year.

We use the Rock 12 months a year in Las Vegas, and it holds up very well in the heat. Never heard Vegas referred to as "high altitude" before lol. People over emphasize the Rock. It's not a super ball, just one that goes a bit farther. None of our players get injured by it. LVSSA is heavily involved in the World Masters. The Rock is there for a reason.

Hey guys, just want to let you know that all but three of the strip hotels are now charging for parking in their garage. This can add up, but I believe all of the host hotels listed on the SSUSA site do not charge for parking.

Las Vegas field allocation is very complicated. Over 560 teams, 12-14 complexes that have local leagues and events to work around. Can't be a fun job.

Discussion: Trump ball used in Reno - 40 Major plus

The Rock ball will be used in the Vegas Tournament for many years to come. This is by LVSSA request in association with SSUSA. We use this ball year round and it performs well at all temperatures. All levels of talent and NO injuries due to the ball. The worst thing I can say about it is it can knuckle pretty good from time to time.

Discussion: Rock Ball in Vegas

The Rock ball was designated by LVSSA to differentiate itself from other tournaments and to fulfill the requests of many players. It holds up in the heat better than the Stote. There was wind at play in both sessions, which may makes the ball more volatile. We use this ball all year long in Las Vegas and it plays more subdued with no wind. Glad to hear that the joint LVSSA/SSUSA time and effort to run this tournament is rewarded by your positive comments.
