May 23, 2019 VegasBob | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Question for Dave-Reno Tournament Hey Donnie,I asked a respectful question directed at Dave, not you. We don't need flamers on this board with nothing better to do than criticize. |
May 23, 2019 VegasBob | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Question for Dave-Reno Tournament Dave, thanks for your prompt reply. If I understand this, six teams will play a Major Plus team in seeding play, and four teams will not. Since the four lowest seeded teams will have to play an additional bracket game, wouldn't the four teams NOT playing a Plus team in seeding play have a potential advantage as to where they seed? |
May 23, 2019 VegasBob | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Question for Dave-Reno Tournament Our team is playing 65 Major at Reno. At the Southwest Championships, Timberworks beat us by 25 runs and knocked us out of the winners bracket. It appears that seeds 7-10 in Reno will have to play an extra bracket game than the first 6 seeds. We don't want to be a low seed and face an extra game, but we play Timberworks in Game One. Will our game against them affect how we're seeded as we're one of only two teams that will face them in the tournament? I'm hoping (should we lose) we're not getting kicked down by this team again since they don't play 8 other teams in seeding play. |

April 29, 2019 VegasBob | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: WHAT DO WE DO WITH TIMBERWORKS? Well said, as I've had the same thoughts. Our team (Sin City Stars) won our first two bracket games and were feeling pretty good. One more win would have put us into the semi-finals, but Timberworks knocked us down to the loser's bracket while beating us by 25 runs. Yes, we did not hit well against them, but it wouldn't have mattered because even if we scored 30 runs, they would have beaten us. As for the $795 Worlds, who wants to put in that time, money and effort to get their butts kicked and moved down to the loser's bracket, which is hard to survive in a 630 team tournament? WE don't get to pick four out of market players like they do, and it's intent to encourage more Major Plus teams by doing this has not panned out. I play to win. Third place means nothing to me. I can't speak for my team, but I like the idea of knowing up front if Timberworks will be participating. I hope this post doesn't get deleted like past ones. |

Oct. 27, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Spring Worlds Leaving Mesquite/St George? I've heard from several sources (but not confirmed) that field costs in St. George have risen quite a bit. |

Sept. 3, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: somthing very interesting I think 6 balls will suffice for most teams, I can't see it working in the Worlds for a team coming out of the losers bracket when it's a huge bracket, say 60aaa, 14 games? That's a lot of games to stretch 6 balls. Maybe more are given out in that case? |

Aug. 10, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Kudos on new balls In Las Vegas, we use the ISA X-Rock 50 weeks a year every Tuesday and Thursday. This week we tried the new SSUSA Microcell ball. It DOES NOT hit the same as the Rock unless you hit it square. Balls that carry out of the park by hitting the bottom half with underspin will not go as far as the Rock. |
Aug. 1, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Calling High Pitches I believe 10 ft. max would add more offense to the game, but do we really need that? |
Aug. 1, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 50 Worlds in Vegas, Start day is no Thursday. Most players will not be able to make Thursday You're right, Dave. Even large casino projects are announced in this town that never get built. |
July 31, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: 50 Worlds in Vegas, Start day is no Thursday. Most players will not be able to make Thursday Las Vegas is talking about building more complexes, so this may not be a long term problem. |
July 30, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Calling High Pitches Thank you, Nancy Allen. Your comments are appreciated. |
July 30, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Calling High Pitches So this appears a tricky line to cross. A 1st or 3rd base coach can yell "safe" to his runner and a teammate can say "high", but not "illegal"? Then it depends on each umpire to set the tone. I asked an umpire how can I coach my batter on these issues and he didn't have an answer. |
July 30, 2018 VegasBob | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Calling High Pitches In an effort to help coach one of my batters, I'll tell them "high" or "illegal". Now, putting aside the argument that I might be wrong and actually misdiagnose to the hitter, why can't I help him out without the umpire telling me he's making the calls? I hear people assist their hitter by saying "that's short" or "long", and the umpire doesn't say anything. So, why can't I assist the batter (again putting aside the I'm wrong argument) without the umpire telling me to shut up? We should be able to assist hitters when necessary. |
