Accomodations in Phoenix
To those in the know, we are playing at Desert West in Phoenix for the Worlds and was wondering if you Arizona players have any good recommendations as to where to stay. We'd like a pool, a good workout room and want to be close to the fields.
Thanks

I'm a Phoenix Police detective and I can tell you what to avoid. Avoid all the hotels at 51st ave. and Interstate 10 area. These are closest to Desert West but are crack and meth infested. You will be lucky if your car is still in the parking lot in the morning. These would ionclude, Holiday Inn, Days Inn, Red Roof Inn, Hampton Inn and others on both the north and south side of the freeway.

You will be much better off further west on I-10 around 99th ave. or 107th ave. Desert West is at 67th ave.

We are playing at Cesar Chavez.
Where are the best places to stay near this complex.
Holiday Inn, Hampton,Fairfield inn type.
Should we look east on Baseline towards Tempe?
any help will be greatly appreciated!!

You would be correct. I would look around Baseline Rd. and I-10, east of Caesar Chavez which is in the middle of nowhere. There are several hotals around Arizona Mills Mall which is at Baseline Rd. and I-10. Also lots of restaurants nearby. You would be in Tempe.

Desert West has fairly good fields in the daytime, night time the lights really, really suck. The area also really sucks.
Players had there cars broken into 3 times in three days.
We stayed at:
Crown Plaza
2532 W Peoria Ave
Phoenix, AZ 85029
(602) 943-2341

Its 12 miles away but byfar an excellant place. Easy to get to Desert West. Crown Plaza is more of a resort than a hotel.

Sorry we will miss you all this year, we are not going to Phoenix again, 3 years was enough for us.

Tell Robin we said HI, good luck with the tournament. See you all soon.

The neighborhood around Rose Mofford is good/decent.

Don't go any farther than 1 mile South on I-17 though.

North on I-17 is good.

For Chavez Park, I think the 1-10 area, West of 99th Ave will also be close. Maybe less traffic than the trip to Tempe.

Hey DBAX, I said the same thing last year about the hotels at 51st and I10 area and you said there was no problems w/them. How is it they went from no problem hotels last year to crack infested hotels in a year. If they are drug infested now they were last year to, Hmmmmmm...... Are you posting this stuff from the dougnut shop????

Mad dog, Joncon is correct. Hotels in the I-17 corridor, roughly from Northern ave. to Cactus Rd. are decent. Avoid the Premier Inn!! Another lowlife place.
Comfort Suites is very nice. Also a new Hyatt Place which used to be Amerisuites. Crown Plaza is nice.
Avoid Super 8 and Motel 6 at Northern ave. Best Western at Northern Ave. is nice.

Bones, a fine choice. It is centrally located. Lots of restaurants and shopping nearby. If you play at Rose Mofford, you are right next to it. Anywhere else, allow plenty of time for morning traffic on the weekdays.

Jill, don't know the hotel, but the area is very nice. If you play at Mesa Riverview or Papago, you would be ok. Anywhere else is a long drive.

Surf88,
There is a brand new Courtyard by Marriot at 9400 W.McDowell Rd. Probably about 20 minutes away from Desert West. Tons of new restaurants and shopping at 99th ave. and McDowell. This is at the intersection of I-10 and Loop 101.

Last year when we were at Papago we stayed at a Best Western there that had a nice courtyard area & was just around the corner from Papago. I think it was Best Western Papago.

There is a great restaraunt "Frasher's" not too far away. Bring your appetites and be pleasantly surprised.

We're at Caesar Chavez this time around and I found a Quality Suites in Tempe that I booked into.

Vito this is a decent area and good motel. Mostly industrial and close to airport. Give yourself plenty of time on the weekday to get to Desert West. Should be no problem on the weekend.

Residence Inn @ Baseline and Preist is a safe location. Traffic is a nightmare on weekday rush hours though.
