There is no question in my mind, the 44/375 ball is far superior to the 52/300 pillow. We play in a 50+ USSSA league that uses the 52/300 ball. Nobody, I repeat NOBODY likes that ball. If I had my way, we'd all go back to using single wall aluminum bats & use either a red or blue dot ball. Then the true home run players will show up.

Discussion: Reebok Melee end loaded bat

Is it just me or are the newer Melee's taking more & more to break in? The Reebok has been my choice of bats since they were introduced. I still have 5 Reebok's that I'm still trying to get to be tournament ready.

Discussion: 2 Piece Combat Dirty!

I had the opportunity to hit a couple of 2 Piece Combat Dirty bats today. I previously reported how much I liked the new Combat Dirty Relaod & let me tell you, the New 2 Piece Dirty's are going to be incredible! I hit a couple of proto-types today. The only differences in the bats, was the stiffness of the handles. Both bats had about 35 swings on them before I hit them. Both felt great & I got better results with the stiffer handle. For those that know me, I'm not a big home run hitter. I get my fair share, but I think that I'm closer to the average senior softball player than some of the other monsters that report on bat performance. I love the bats. The new technology on building these bats makes them hot out of the wrapper & promises to give them a decent life expectancy.
When the Barrage 2 Piece bats came out, I was hitting home runs before I even removed the cellophane wrappers. But, I broke 2 of them without even getting 20 swings on each of them. I put about 60 swings on them today & they just kept getting better. When I finished, there was a couple of 40+ ball players that got a chance to hit them. Both guys hit some monster shots & it wasn't ideal conditions as the wind was blowing in from left center. The bats showed no signs of cracking. Combat still has a few adjustments to make on the bats before they go into production. I'm thinking this is the bat that I will be swinging, as soon as they come available. I have probably 40-50 senior bats & think that I can be a fairly impartial judge, as I'm not on anyone's payroll & have to pay for all of my bats, just like you do.
I'll be in Las Vegas for the SSUSA SW Nationals at the end of April, Look me up, I'll have a proto-type for batting practice.

The Dirty definetly swings heavier than the Wanted. I swing light bats, 26oz.

Discussion: 2015 Combat Dirty G3 Reload

I have a Wanted in my arsenal as well as a couple of Twilights. The Wanted has way more handle flex than I care for & the Twilight has even more handle flex than the Wanted. Just wait until you hit one off the end of the bat & you will know what I mean. I'm a bit of a bat snob, as all of my friends will attest. I have probably 50 senior bats hanging in my garage. I'm always looking for that one magic stick. LOL

Rumor has it that there is some testing going on this week on a 2 piece Dirty. I'm sure that I will have a few them in my arsenal, as well........

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am to understand that Reebok is out of the bat business......

I like it better than the Ambush, as it seems to hit harder. It's close to the older Melee. The more I hit it, the hotter it gets. The latest Melee's seem to take a lot more to break in. My newer Melee's aren't as hot as the new Dirty. The best part!, They are available right now. I tried to buy an end loaded Melee for a friend & they aren't available.& who knows if they will ever be available........ I'm not in the bat business, I have to buy my own bats. So right now the hot bat seems to be the G3 Dirty Reload.......

Discussion: 2015 Combat Dirty G3 Reload

I just received a 2015 Combat Dirty G3 Reload. GREAT BAT. The new Dirty breaks in a lot faster than the original Dirty. New technology, thanks to Bauer buying Combat, really helps the Dirty be game ready in a few swings. I'm not sure why, but this Combat has a huge sweet spot, making it a very forgiving bat. If you are looking for a bat that doesn't take 150+ swings to break in, this is it. I was very happy with the old Dirty & the new Dirty is even better. Now I'm not sure what I'm going to do with the 4 older Dirty's I have hanging in my garage......

Buy the new Dirty, You won't be sorry.

Plus, rumor has it there is a 2 piece Dirty in the works.

I try to hit twice a week & play 2-3 tournaments a week. I'm going to keep hitting it to see just how hot it will get. I'll post more as time goes on.

Discussion: Worth Pitching Helmet

Our other pitcher, Donnie wears glasses under the Worth helmet. I have worn sun glasses under the helmet, it works just fine. Hard to rip the helmet off, to grab a pop fly, with glasses on. I prefer to not wear any glasses. Less visual interference.

Discussion: Worth Pitching Helmet

After playing in 2 mandatory face mask tournaments, I have changed my mind. I definitely prefer the Worth Pitching Helmet/Mask. It's light weigh, we'll ventilated, offers a clear line of sight & more importantly, it's far more comfortable. I tried the Rip-it face mask & the elastic strap hurt my ears.

Part of the fear I have of a head shot, is going to be my automatic reaction to turn my head. That's exactly what happened 30+ years ago playing against Sunnyvale Valve.

The helmet is really light. I've had 2 shots hit toward my upper body since wearing the helmet. One was a mis hit that I over reacted to & it drilled me. The other was this past weekend playing against a Major+ team, in St George. It was a #3 batter, he smoked it & I was able to catch it. The helmet/face mask didn't hamper me in the least.

Our other pitcher had a pop up that was harder to track, with the helmet on. He was able to make the play. He was afraid to rip the mask off, as he wears glasses.

Try the worth helmet/face mask, you won't be sorry.

Discussion: where are all the pitchers

Capt Kirk - the TOC in Florida, is last years teams & subsequently will be using last years rules ( I already check). No Masks & No DBO's in Major or Major+.....

There is a HUGE difference from hitting at a pitcher & hitting by a pitcher. But, mistakes happen. I'll wear the mask. The Rip-it is my choice. I just hope batters don't think it's a Bullseye........

Discussion: where are all the pitchers

I really dislike the face mask rule. I've been pitching for 25 years & only had 1 close call. Yes, I am getting older, but so are my batting opponents. A good friend of mine had a close call a year or so ago & started wearing a mask. He has since been hit in the mask 3 times in the last year. Why? Are the odds catching up to him? Or do people not care about wether or not they want to shoot the middle, since he is now wearing a mask?
I'll wear the mask. I wore it in batting practice last week & the only complaint I had, was that it was hot and it was only 62 degrees. I'm dreading when the temperatures reach triple digits.

Wishing Everyone a Happy New Year, I can't wait to get back out on the field.

Hey Donnie, Tri18 (Alan) was a big help getting my barrage replaced. Got it last week, it's not as hot as the one I broke in 25 swings, but it is hotter than the 2 piece Ultra's that I have.

A Big Thank You Tri18

Discussion: Time to eliminate senior bats

In all actuality, I've been hitting a pretty HOTT single wall Demarini. It's too cold to be swinging those delicate by design, senior bats. Going back to single wall bats is fine by me. I think I'll swing the Demarini in my 50+ USSSSA league.

Can't we all just get along? Love it or Leave it. I love playing ball, I can't believe at 60 that I'm still playing a kids game. Every year they bring out new rules. Some work, some don't. I hate the idea of DBO outs. I'll keep playing & thank God that he still allows me to play. If you think that isn't politically correct, who cares.... Batting practice Tuesday at 11...........
