Discussion: Military Service Or Veterans

I was drafted in 1969 in the army, became a combat engineer, (no choice of mine) demolotion specialist. I used the GI bill together with ROTC and went back into the army in 1975 as a 2ed lt., in armored cav. I have many memories from the things I did and peiople I met, I chooose to remember the good things. I became a PTSD therapist no doubt due to military experience. I support our troops and our country, but I worry about our government. You gotta love veterans. Donny C.

Discussion: Old is the new...old

Einstein/Gary C. I congradulate the two of you for ending a much too long disagreement (conflict.) Everyone who spoke out on your discussions have no doubt learned something. Remember that conflict always proceeds clarity. Nothing wrong with disagreeing; just do not allow it to make us feel threatened, shocked or hurt. We all have shortcomings as we all have strengths. Time to have some good discussions. Donny C.

Discussion: 50AAA Chicago team looking for a player for Lansing, Mi

neck10/Dbax: I am not sure of what you are saying. Lake Superior borders MI, WI, MN, and of course Canada. From what you say I can play ball for MN as it borders a lake that borders MI which I live in. I understand I can play in WI and IN as they border directly. I am not sure about this water boundary. Can I play for a team from Illnois? because of the water boundary you speak of. Donny C.

Dbax: titanhd is correct. MI and Illinois do not touch each other at all. They are close but that does not count. Indiana borders extend to Lake MI thus seperating Illinois and MI. I would love to play in Lansing if anyone needs a player as I live in MI. I played with Big Daddy's this past summer. Donny C.

Discussion: anyone use a pitcher screen in league play

We use a screen and I as a pitcher have both pro and con answers to this. It most certainely protects the pitcher and that can be very good when facing a power hitter. It does stop possible double plays and takes the pitcher out nearly entirely defensively. I at times become to complacient when pitching (with screen) and this stops me from being in the game the way I should. The league screen hinders me when playing where a screen is not being used. One needs to be on there toes whenever playing defense, any position, and league play with a screen hinders that. I would rather have no screen and be alowed a much higher arc, and a larger pitchers mound thus allowing the pitcher to do much more than just dish out strikes. I know I can throw font back sides but that really does little to stop a good hitter. Lets face it there is not a whole lot a pitcher can do to have much of an impact on the game with such low arc. Low arc makes it a hitters game and coupled with hot bats and balls a pitcher can do little. I do love using better bats and balls however. Donny C.

Discussion: tournaments for league bats only

Our senior league voted and are using wooden bats for our tourny. I am not to crazy about using these bats but it sure has evened up the teams and made games much more competitive. No balls over the fence at all, very few if any even rolled to the fence. Scores were down by 15 runs a game. The less talented teams were in the game, one undefeated team got beat by a score of 4-3. Defense was a big factor, balls were being caught at least 50% more. Our fences are 300' and if I recall when we used wooden bats in 60's and early 70's the fences were around 250'-275 and the 275 were an exception. I do recall some wooden bats were better than others, as all metal bats are not equal. I still love to swing an ultra 2 but my team has an opportunity to win using wooden bats. Kind of nice to have an opportunity to win as we have not won a game in 2 years. We were in our game this week (in the 7th)for the first time and wooden bats used by all was the reason. Donny C.

Discussion: Looking for 55 plus team in MI for tourny play

neck10: I played for the GTB team in Traverse City. I pitched and played short. I also play for a couple of young teams, a co-ed and mens team. I pitch for them. I would love to get a 60 and over team going for tourneyment play if I cannot find a team. It seems few teams need players and if they do they would have to know you and see how you play. One can say anything about how you play but proof is in seeing someone play. I will check out some of the palces you mentioned. Thank you, Donny C.
