Discussion: Lost Glove

I left a Rawling's fielders glove in the dugout after the Wild Bunch and Ga/Al Masters game that ended around 4:00 pm last Saturday at the Birmingham SSUSA Southern Regional Championships. Glove is light tan in color and has basket weave webbing. Probably still muddy. I believe the Memphis Ameraprise team occupied the dugout after us. If you found this glove or have seen it please respond to this post or call Jack Baker 850-217-1769. Thanks.

Congratulations to TAPCO who won the 60 major division. A very talented group of ball players and great guys to boot. Great fun playing against them, even when you lose.
Matadors came back through the losers bracket playing 5 games Saturday before losing 13 to 17 to Tapco in the "if" game. Excellent fields and a very well run tournament. Good balls to hit and and most people didn't complain about not getting to use their Ultra II's. Even amongst the fierce competition there was great cameraderie amongst the players on all teams. That's what it's all about! Also congrats to Human Kinetics and Huffman for fielding great teams - another day or time and either one could have come out on top.

Discussion: Any other results from B'ham?

I want to echo airbosn's comments about this softball complex. It's a great complex with the best infields I can remember ever playing on. The Tournament was very well run considering the schedule juggling that occurred to avoid the approaching storm front. Hats off to Terry and all for a great weekend of softball! First place teams got Miken bat bag backpacks and an invite to the TOC. I thought the new microcell balls hit pretty good and seemed to hold up well over time since there was no shortage of home runs on the 300' fences. The home run hitters also liked the fact that the runners moved up if a home run was hit as a single, even if it was not a "force". Terry said he plans on holding it a different weekend next year to avoid conflicting with other regional tournaments. Hopefully this will bring more teams and grow the tournament. It was just a lot of fun at a great softball complex!

Discussion: 2006 Plano results, anyone got them?

55 Majors:

1 - American Marking (AMI)
2 - DK, Southern Cal
3 - Arizona MOB

My car showed 107 degrees one afternoon and 103 degrees every other day.

Umpires were great, fields were OK but very hard due to high temps. There were very few home runs hit in any of our games. I don't think anybody ever got "pushed".

Generally a great tournament.

Played them in the SPA Nationals this summer in Plano. They tied with Grimes Trucking for 5th place in the 55 Majors. Good ball club.

Discussion: Passing of Henry Reid

Thanks for the post Airbosn. This is a sad day for Senior Softball as well as the Northwest Florida senior ball players. We all new Henry. He was a great teammate and I enjoyed playing with him. He was a noble person and had a great attitude despite his failing health. I will miss seeing him at the ballpark but I know he has gone on to a better place.

Discussion: 70' bases?

Hi Bruce: I've played the 70' bases and like them because they bring the defense back into the game. Every game that I can remember playing on them was a close one. It helps offset the hot bats and balls and allows us old infielders a little more reaction time. Since I don't let the bases dictate where I play my position the extra length is not a factor defensively. I play the batter based on my knowlege of how and where he hits, what bat he is using, what ball is in play, how the rest of our defense is aligned, etc. Offensively a well struck ball in the right place is still a hit. I would be interested to know what they did for the pitchers - did they move them back too? - they are the players I worry most about.

Discussion: Who Playing in the SPA Tourney in Plano TX in Sept

DoubleL10- Thanks for the kind words. Just trying to play up to the level of the Houston Texans.
I do remember you hitting the chalk at least once, maybe twice for hits against us. And I only remember you making one out in 3-4 games but I may have been imagining that. Anyway, I am really looking forward to seeing you, BruceinGa and all my friends on the Texans, Countrywide and others in Plano. By the way, the head is OK, luckily the ball didn't hit me in something I use all the time.

Lenny - Matador 55's came in 2nd in Gold Division. We run ruled Countrywide in the "if" game; they run ruled us in the final.
