Oct. 13, 2009 Don5 | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Winter Worlds Team Looking for a California team to play with at the Winter Worlds, need to pull the slots one more time this year. Still in rehab, Maybe I could hit my weight, probably not! 60/55 & 50 (water boy). I require two first class round trip tickets from SAC or Oak and a penthouse at the palms, a limo to the fields. Per diem starts at $150 per day. If you can't afford that, that's ok, I will consider playing for peanuts. |
April 25, 2009 Don5 | Topic: Product review Discussion: Knee protection Thanks Vinny & Rooster. I will try them out, for $30, very cheap insurance to keep the bionic knee from injury. I tried on the pads from Lowes, put had a sudden urge to install tile or carpet :) |
April 23, 2009 Don5 | Topic: Product review Discussion: Knee protection Just had TKR a few months ago and am looking to get some good knee protection. Maybe someone knows of a good product they use and can recommend. I spoke with Roster10 today and he uses the plastic knee pads found in Lowes, he is a little unsure what the protecive value is if the pad is hit hard and square on. Hopefully he will never find out. I plan on returning to play, again hopefully in tourney play, maybe to pitch some and dodging bullets at 3rd. (). In any case what have you guys found out about some good knee protection. |
April 8, 2009 Don5 | Topic: Associations Discussion: Softball Marathon benefit The Stanislaus Senior Softball Association (SSSA) is holding a senior softball marathon in August. We are planning a 12 hour softball game that will benefit our local high schools boys & girls athletic departments. Our goal is to raise $17,000 thru pledges and donations, $1000 for each of our 17 public high schools in Stanislaus County. If anyone has had experience in putting something on like this I would to hear from you. Don Angle SSSA (209)573-3369 don.angle@dla.mil |
Jan. 26, 2009 Don5 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Knee Braces AlleninGa: you indicate that it may "be time to use a Knee Brace of some sort". So the assumption is that you have possibly been surgery free on your knees, if so that's great. It would be advisable to have a ortho specialist check you out. Us "60" guys have pretty much worn out the legs and some of us have had multiple operations. I had major knee surgery in 64 & 66 and a few arthos since and I have been wearing knee braces for over 40 years and like hitman I wouldn't even play without it. The donjoys, CTI2, and all other braces that require special fitting like that usually require a prescription so the insurance can pay for them. My last brace was $2300 and its four years old and hopefully will be retired this year, not me, just the brace. Good luck in fixing the leg, its hard work!! If you aren't in that bad of condition I'm sure that jah#4 (Don) can help you out, sounds like he has lots of experience in braces. Don5 |
Jan. 22, 2009 Don5 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Modesto senior league Jamie Jef is correct that the Stanislaus Senior Softball Association (SSSA) is currently signing up members for the 2009 season. However, the SSSA does not have a website, you and anyone else may email me at don.angle@dla.mil and I will send you a registration form and information sheet. We are 350+ active members strong and welcome all men 45 and over and women 40 and over. Practice starts in March and the league runs from April until October. Welcome to Senior Softball! July 10, 2008 Don5 | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What is the rule on age for the world championships October 08? Hitt2, Jef , relax, you are getting older each year, you have the same amount of time to wait as everyone else. Work hard and someone will pick you up for major tournies when you are eligible. To Nancy and anyone else: to see what is going on in Northern California Senior Softball, check the NCSSA website; www.ncssa.info it is one of the best run smaller organizations in senior softball. 104 teams strong from South of Fresno, North to Oregon and Reno/Carson City, NV. This is a great organization RUN only by the players, our directors are voted for each year and include several Senior Sofftball Hall of Famers. Don Angle |

Sept. 5, 2007 Don5 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA West Hi Scott The NSA website indicates that there are (2) 60 AAA teams (Animals and Mustangs) (3) 60 Major teams, Nor Cal Merchants, Califoenia Starzz and Wildwood West Outlaws, the Farm was listed last week , but not today. The 60 M+ has only the Old A's. The only 55 teams listed are the 55 Animals (major) and MTC 55 (major plus). The Sportsmans are now listed in the 50 AAA. I'm not sure what is happening to the rest of the entries, if any. Yesterday I got a call from Rick of last years SSUSA 50AAA Worlds Champions, Four Seasons from Washington, He said they entered the NSA West but has not received confirmation or even a reply from his repeated phone calls to the NSA State Director and this team is not listed either. The NSA needs to look a little deeper into Senior Softball in the West and improve it. It looks like Carl and the SSSA /NCSSA has shown big Leagues that the little guys still have local clout. (23 teams, 15 miles from the NSA venue, on the same weekend0 |
Aug. 29, 2007 Don5 | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSA West Is anyone coming to play in the NSA Western World Series at Rainbow Fields in Modesto CA, Sept 8-9? So far only only local teams have signed up, (2) 50 teams, (2) 55 teams, (7) 60 teams and (2) 65 teams. |
