April 1, 2023 TooOldToFight | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: nicest softball complexes There are a handful I would put in the "special" category, but Berliner complex in Columbus, Oh. is one of my favorites (Sorry SSUSA, I know it's an SPA complex but it's the SPA tournament we go to annually just bcuz of the complex/fields). They have 31 turf fields and they're really well maintained. Last year there was a torrential downpour and 45 minutes later we were playing again and the fields were in great condition. They always have a good team turnout and most people who attend sing praises about the fields. Not field-related, but they also have nice concessions with a large variety of food and drink. |
March 29, 2023 TooOldToFight | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Partial knee replacement Senior24, I haven't had a knee replacement, so to me the people who already responded are the experts. However, I know 10 individuals who had one or both knees replaced and 8 of them were religious about doing the physical therapy longterm and to the person they're very active and they say they're really glad they had the surgery. The two individuals who gave up early on the PT don't run well and say their leg always feels stiff. At least one of the other responders emphasized the importance of doing the PT and I strongly agree. |
Feb. 6, 2023 TooOldToFight | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: TOC SSUSA, well done on posting all the results for the TOC and for doing it so quickly. It was enjoyable just to sift thru the results and follow the many teams with players I know. In my humble opinion, game by game result updates are the only thing that keeps SSUSA from standing head and shoulders above all other associations. Nicely done. |
Jan. 18, 2023 TooOldToFight | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: 61 looking for new team Fellow Softballers, I just noticed this text from one of my 2022 teammates and was surprised to see there were no responses. I've played ball with cop298 for years but our team is moving up to the 65 age group and he's only 61 so he can't join us. Roger is positively in the upper echelon of hitters in the midwest and he's a good teammate. While offense if his forte, he's also respectable defensively and is an all-around utility player who can play multiple infield/outfield positions. Whoever picks Roger up will get a really good hitter and a good teammate. |
Dec. 15, 2022 TooOldToFight | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 2023 TOC Maybe I'm missing something here but not clear why SSUSA is taking a beating in this post. Are there some things I would like to see done differently by SSUSA? Yeah, I'd like to see game by game scores posted for all tournaments. But beating them up for continuing to hold a tournament the beginning of February when that's what they've done for years with rare exception doesn't make a lot of sense to me. They're not the association that came late to the table and moved their event on top of SSUSA's. Plus, I wonder how we'll all feel one day when the people who run SSUSA decide they've taken enough unwarranted abuse and they decide to close up shop and walk away. I know how much time and effort it takes to run a team, can't imagine what's required to run an entire softball association, so maybe kinder messages are in order. Just a thought. |
Dec. 6, 2022 TooOldToFight | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: 60+ Animal LOL. I can't believe no teams have jumped on this offer. Are you available now or still awaiting your release from prison? :) |
Nov. 20, 2022 TooOldToFight | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Session 1 Results Winter Worlds Adding to SteveO77's question, will pool and bracket game by game scores be added for the Winter Nationals and Winter Worlds like they are for Vegas and other large tournaments? Being able to view game by game results is part of the excitement of Senior Softball. |
Nov. 15, 2022 TooOldToFight | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Winter National results Tim, for what it’s worth, I think you and the SSUSA staff did a great job running and coordinating Session I of the Winter Nationals. After Tuesday's rains I didn’t imagine we’d play again and after Wednesday morning’s downpour and windstorm I assumed again that we were finished. You were masterful in adjusting schedules, communicating changes, and having the fields playable. I normally eat very healthy during tournaments but I was so sure we weren’t going to play Wednesday afternoon that I put down a huge bacon cheeseburger and two sides for lunch…I wasn’t too happy with you when I finished my last bite and then received your text saying the games were on and we were starting an hour early. 😊 I know you and the SSUSA staff worked tirelessly on our behalf and it was much appreciated. Very impressive job. |
Oct. 11, 2022 TooOldToFight | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 11 Players For 65 Brackets Thanks for your additional research, Tim. Didn't mean to cause an irritation. The rule of 11 defenders is set and I will simply accept it. |
Oct. 11, 2022 TooOldToFight | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 11 Players For 65 Brackets Tim, thanks for sharing those Vegas stats. I would expect a 60 team's defense to be a fair amount stronger than a 65 AAA team. For a more accurate comparison wouldn't we need to compare last year's 65 AAA scoring with 10 defenders to this year's 65 AAA with 11 defenders? Just a thought. |
Oct. 10, 2022 TooOldToFight | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: 11 Players For 65 Brackets I've been part of Sr. Softball for years but my first time using the message board. I must have talked to the same people as Bruce303 bcuz everyone I've talked to has said they prefer to play 65's with 10 defensive players. The common sentiment is that 11 players is making the game less like the game of softball that we all know and love. I agree with them, I prefer to play the game straight up with 10 defensive players. Also agree with LMR, most 65 games I've watched have failed to score 5 runs in the majority of innings so I guess I'm missing the rationale behind going with 11 defensive players. |
