Nov. 12, 2021 GQ | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: New 75+ Team If you are 74+ or more in 2022, live in the Pacific Northwest, are both a softball competitor and a gentleman, prefer tournament play, and can still do the big four (run/catch/throw/ and hit}, consider joining our new team in Spokane. Contact me, George Quiggle, at thequiggles@msn.com. Leave your name, contact info, and the positions you prefer to play. We'll be in touch. |
Sept. 8, 2021 GQ | Topic: Players looking to join a team Discussion: Las Vegas Worlds My name is George Quiggle. I've played with the Codgers/BCT team from Boise, ID for the past 12 years, but switched this year to a Montana 65+ AA team. At the last minute, we found out that, due to Covid confusion, my Montana team has exceeded the 3 player, out-of-region limit. So, SSUSA tells me I MAY be able to join a team bordering my home in Spokane, if that team is facing a last-minute shortage of players. I prefer to play 70+ in any division. Most recently, I've played 3rd, Short, 2nd, or anywhere in the outfield, and have good speed. You can reach me at thequiggles@msn.com. |
Nov. 20, 2015 GQ | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Game Scores & Bracket Results SSUSA staff? |
Nov. 15, 2015 GQ | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Game Scores & Bracket Results I notice that "Game Scores & Bracket Results" are posted for many SSUSA tournaments, but not for all. Will the individual game results eventually be posted for the WORLD MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS, recently completed in Las Vegas, or does the shear volume of games make that an impossible task? Just curious. |
Dec. 23, 2012 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: What did you do in your last at bat? My last at bat in 2012 took place at the Huntsman Senior Games in St. George, UT. For the first time in my 46-year softball career, I was intentionally walked because the other team didn't want to face me. I about had a heart attack. In my previous at bat, I had hit a bases loaded triple, and, just before that,a grand slam, inside-the-park, home run. I wish I could say that I do both on a regular basis, but that wouldn't exactly be truthful. I know what you're thinking. "That guy should retire". You might be right, but I'm having too much fun to do that. |
Jan. 8, 2012 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Speaking of Stan Harvey and his legend Pat, I momentarilly forgot who always wore #14, and who could stride half-way to the pitcher's mound from 1st Base before catching a ball from Rich Glover or Billie Edwards. I still wish to this day that I'd been able to join you for the Nationals in Ohio. All these years later, you're still the best Team Manager I ever had the honor to play for. Your years with Dan Smith, Reno, arguably one of the best Men's softball teams the country has ever produced, at any level, certainly proved that to be true. |
Jan. 8, 2012 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Speaking of Stan Harvey and his legend Yes it is. To whom am I speaking. |
Jan. 7, 2012 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Speaking of Stan Harvey and his legend I'll be more than happy to clarify. Chico's Pizza/Ankeny's, of Spokane, WA, played Howards Furniture in the mid 70's at the ASA Men's Open Slo Pitch "National Championships", held in Lorain, OH. I believe our team lost to them in the preliminary rounds by a 38-33 score, and, since they were considered the "Gold Standard" of softball, were proud to have been able to just play on the same field. Shawn Montee, of Coeur d'Alene, ID, won the SSUSA, 50+, "Triple Crown" in 2008. BCT, Boise, ID, repeated that same feat, at the 60+ level, in 2009. Though the mention of Stan Harvey's passing certainly saddened many of us in the world of Senior Softball, the positive memories left by both he and his team mates will certainly help fill the gap. |
Jan. 7, 2012 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Speaking of Stan Harvey and his legend Let's all take a trip down memory lane. Just SOME of the more noteable teams I've had the great pleasure of playing with during my 44 years of softball include: Chico's Pizza/Spokane (Ankenys); Heidelberg/Longview; Prairie Tavern/Vancouver; Shawn Montee Timber Company/Coeur d'Alene; Blaine County Title/Boise (BCT); and now, Northwest Merchants 60+ AAA. |
April 2, 2011 GQ | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: Pacific Northwest? I understand your SSUSA Qualifier in Spokane will be held at the brand new "Dwight Merkel Sports Complex". Spokane is long overdue for a state-of-the-art, softball facility like that. We're looking forward to being there, See you May 14th and 15th!!! |
March 30, 2011 GQ | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: Pacific Northwest? "Northwest Merchants" is a new, 60+ AAA team out of Coeur d'Alene Idaho. The bulk of this new team has evolved from the 50+ "Shawn Montee Timber Company" team, an inevitable part of the aging process. |
March 28, 2011 GQ | Topic: Teams looking for players Discussion: Pacific Northwest? If you're either an age 60+ player, or turning 60 in 2011 and: 1)want to play serious tournament softball; 2)have excellent defensive/offensive skills; 3)are a gentleman/team player; and 4)live in Washington, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, British Columbia, Nevada, Utah, or Wyoming, please email me at thequiggles@msn.com. |
Oct. 23, 2009 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Phoenix 60 AAA Here are the final results from the recently completed World Championships: 1) Blaine County Title (ID) 2) Georgia/Alabama Masters 3) Fountain Valley Outlaws (CA)) |
March 2, 2009 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Huntsman games TV commercial As a point of reference, My name is George Quiggle, and I've been an outfielder for the Shawn Montee 50+ team out of Post Falls, ID (now ranked AAA). Back in 1978, as a pharmaceutical rep, I helped launch the parent drug to "Aleve", called "Naprosyn" (Naproxen) onto the market. Naproxen Sodium, now called "Aleve", disolved in less time than Naproxen (20 minutes). It was the best non-steroidal, ant-inflammatory (NSAID) on the market back then, and it's probably still the best. If youve taken Naprosyn then or now, you're getting the same active ingredient. There are some precautions, and you should definitely read the "patient package insert" before taking it. The only other "unique" product available back then was used primarily for tenditis or bursitis. You rubbed it on the skin, and then tasted it seconds later. That product is called dymethylsulphoxide (DMSO), but that's another thread. Hope to see many of you at tournaments again this summer. |
Oct. 19, 2008 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: The Batting Box Here's the dilemma caused by a new, larger, strike mat, as it directly conflicts with the batter's box. The batter is now forced to swing at any pitch that even touches the front corner of the plate, furthest away from him/her. Unless that batter has super-human balance and dexterity, there's a strong likelihood that he/she will have to step out of the batter's box to reach it. Something has to give in this scenario. I'd like to think that umpires will be a little more flexible in their deliberations, but that may not always be the case. |
March 23, 2007 GQ | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Washington State Tournaments 2007 Shawn Montee Timber Company (50+AA) will be attending the Kennewick Qualifier at Horn Rapids. We will be sending our 2007 team registration, our roster, and our tournament entry fee to Sacramento by the end of the week. We also spread the word to last year's team from Walla Walla, but have no idea whether or not they're planning to participate. |
Feb. 13, 2007 GQ | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSG in Louisville Thanks everyone for your input. The Shawn Montee team certainly appreciates it. We have decided not to attend the National Senior Games this summer. |
Feb. 9, 2007 GQ | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: NSG in Louisville I'm the current, player/manager for Shawn Montee Timber Company, Coeur d'Alene, ID (50+AA). By winning the Gold Medal at the Montana Senior Olympics last summer, we have qualified to compete at the National Senior Games, scheduled to be played at Fort Knox, KY (June 22-27). Our communication with NSG staff has given me serious concerns about whether our team, or any other SSUSA should compete at that event. They have given us every indication that they don't care whether we come or not (entry fee of $1,175; misinformation about accomodations; and an inflexible position about player registration). If we can't get these issues resolved before the Feb 15th deadline, we will definitely NOT be attending. Has anyone else had similar experiences? |
Dec. 23, 2006 GQ | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: TOC INVITEE'S --- Who's "GOING" --- Who's "NOT" Shawn Montee Timber Company, of Coeur d'Alene,ID, is making every effort to attend the TOC. We finished 1st at the Northwest Cup Championship, 2nd at the Western Nationals, and 3rd at the World Championships (50+AA). |
Aug. 21, 2006 GQ | Topic: Tournaments Discussion: Northwest Championship/Portland Over the years, I\'ve heard some teams complain when they think they have to play a particular opponnent once too often, either in league or tournament play. Nothing could be further from the truth when Shawn Montee Timber Company and Second Wind square off against one another. Whether it\'s in Reno for Western Nationals, or Portland for the Northwest Championship, it\'s looking more and more like a classic, Ali/Frasier fight. Maybe by the end of the season, if that day ever comes, we\'ll finally figure out which one\'s which. From our perspective at Shawn Montee, Second Wind is a \"class act\", and we\'ve thoroughly enjoyed every inning we\'ve played them. Also, we\'d like to thank the entire SSUSA staff, both in Sacramento and in the Pacific Nortwwest, for putting on a fantastic tournament in Portland. |
