Nov. 13, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: cortisone shot Get to a good sports oriented orthopedic surgeon. You play with this condition, you might end up with what is called frozen shoulder. You won’t be able to brush your teeth without pain, let alone play softball. Cortisone only masks the problem. You might be able to get by with cortisone and PT. get to a good doctor. |
Sept. 22, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Throwing arm has gone bad. Not being a doctor, but playing with guys with similar symptoms, sounds more like rotator cuff tear. Get to a good sport orthopedic doctor . You might be getting what is called frozen shoulder. |
Aug. 16, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: Rules of the game Discussion: Looking for a Senior League Rule The league I play in has a very unique rule to address this. You can issue an intentional walk, but the manager just inserts a runner at first and the batter stays at the plate. If a pitcher throws four straight balls the same rule applies. Now if the pitcher throws a strike ,he can issue an intentional walk with no penalty. That batter must take first. If a pitcher throws three balls, then a strike, then another ball, that batter must take the walk. This stops any by passing of big hitters. |
June 26, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Rotator Cuff Surgery or not? Cuda65, I have been lucky enough to not have had this surgery. I play with many guys who have had it. They all mirror the remarks other players have told you. But the guys I played with are glad after the long and hard PT that they had it done. I do just want to,point out something to you. My wife fell and torn her rotator cuff. She was just going to try a cortisone shot and PT . The surgeon told her if she waited ,because of the damage , she could develop what is called frozen shoulder. They put her in PT while she waited to have the surgery. This was to keep from becoming what he called frozen shoulder. Just a heads up. When you see your physician ask the question about frozen shoulder. Good luck in your endeavor. It is at least a six month recovery time frame. |
May 15, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Lower back problems Armiho211, just a suggestion. I had an injury to my back last year. I hurt what is called the SI joint. I have a great sports oriented orthopedic surgeon and he suggested Chiropractic help. Plus he recommended PT. I have a great PT and chiropractor person. He designed a back strength and stretching program. The chiropractor adjustments helped. In six weeks taking his advice I was as good as new. I now do back strengthening as part of my workout plan. |
April 4, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Knee replacement Ocden, I am like you have had four scopes and the last one they did what is called accu fill. The orth guy has told me the next step would be a replacement. The only concern I see in your post is the doctor told you no more runnng. I play with numerous guys who have had replacements. They all run, maybe not as good, but still run and some are outfielders. Just a suggestion ,I would get another opinion before doing it. Make sure the surgeon is sports oriented. Just some thoughts. |

Jan. 26, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Cataract Surgery Texas Transplant, I live in Massachusetts ,so I have access to Mass eye and ear,one of the best in the world for eye care. I was confident in my conversation with the doctor this was the right way to go. After reading your post it more than confirms it. |
Jan. 26, 2017 Mannjo | Topic: General and miscellaneous Discussion: Cataract Surgery Ironic that this post occurred. I was having issues with my eyes at night driving and things fuzzy in the distance. I went to the ophthalmologist Monday and was diagnosed with cataracts. He said I could wait or have it done. I opted to have it done ,because of the night driving issue. He gave me the choice of having a lens for distance or up close. I chose distance which he said the majority do. He said after surgery I will only need glasss for reading . He said one week of no activity. Then I should be good to go. He will then do the other eye in a month. |

Oct. 23, 2016 Mannjo | Topic: Bats Discussion: knee problems I am in Massachusetts. Medicare paid for my procedure. It is I would imagine cheaper than a knee replacement,so your insurance might pay for it. |
Oct. 23, 2016 Mannjo | Topic: Bats Discussion: knee problems Ocden, I have had knee issues due to arthritis and tearing meniscus. Which has resulted on bone on bone. When I went to the doctor last November he recommended this relatively new procedure ,where they go in and fill the spaces with this cement. It then actually becomes new bone. He said it is the last step before a knee replacement. I had some discomfort for two to three days after the procedure. I then started PT and in six weeks I felt great. I went and played indoor softball in January and went to a tournament in Florida in March. It was the first time in two years I did not have nagging pain in my knee. I did get the gel shots again after the accufill. The first time I got the gel shot it had no effect. I am holding off on any knee replacement until it is absolutely necessary. Some guys I play softball with have got the replacement and rave about them. Others say if they had to it again they would not do it. The only thing I can recommend from experience is get a sports oriented orthopedic surgeon. I find they stay up on the latest technology and understand the athlete better. |
