You mention there will be bats to demo. Will they (specifically 2 piece, end load) be available to buy and take home as well, or just pre-orders?

I play both 50's and 55's. You do not need a release as long as your divisions (AA, AAA, Major, Major+) are compatible

Discussion: Rating change for a team that disbanded

I want to make sure I understand.

Team A wins or does well enough over a period of time. They decide to disband/break up/etc. 3 of these players transfer to a AAA team (team B), which already has 3 higher-rated players on their roster. After they transfer, the team that disbanded (team A) gets re-rated to major, so all players formerly on that roster get re-rated too. Now suddenly team B has 6 players rated Major, which is out of compliance.

If I am reading this correctly, what keeps team B from stepping onto the field with 6 major rated players is the sheet sent out to each tournament, which is the sheet TD's and staff use to check off players as they check in for a tourney. Is this correct?

I am just trying to understand-- no beef with any team or anyone here.

Lorenzi getting shut down to 2 fields is a very big deal. Now there are a ton of 2 field complexes to try to make work logistically, which I can only assume is a nightmare for SSUSA. What makes it worse is Lorenzi is a good place to play, which means that very rough/outdated fields like warm springs, etc might get put into play. I can't imagine a team from back east being excited to spend the money necessary to play in this tournament only to play at a complex (if you want to call it that) like Warm Springs. I was at Warm Springs over the weekend, and that place needs a facelift BAD!

I know ultimately we are there to play and it's fun still no matter where we play, but the venue does matter, and it hurts when we lose access to 2 very good fields.

Discussion: Tournament Prizes

My personal opinion- It's fun to win stuff, but most of the stuff I have won (warm up shirts, bat bags, etc) stay in my closet or have been given to others. I am very particular with what I roll with (bat bag I use, clothes I wear, etc) and I like picking out and buying what I use versus getting something after winning that I will never pull out of the cheap plastic it came in. Especially the hats.... For the love of all that is holy, please no more ill-fitting hats!!

I would much rather have the money spent on these things applied to other things to make the tournament experience better (scoring system for in-tournament online scoring updates, water in dug outs, tournament bracket boards, actually using scoreboards when available or manual ones so spectators know the score of the game, etc). Pour the money back into the tournament somehow to make the player/spectator experience better.

Winning a tournament is enough of a reward for me. Keep your too-small-for-my-massive dome hats and warm up jacket. It's 107 today in the shade in Vegas, I ain't wearing it.

Discussion: WORLDS AND NEW 4 DAY FORMAT

You are right-- I don't ever want to try to figure out the logistics when putting worlds together... seems daunting to say the least. Not only do local leagues not want to cooperate, but inventory is getting complicated. Case in point is Lorenzi-- I personally love playing there, but I know the house gets hit over and over again in left center on one of the fields-- enough to where the guy comes out wanting to fight after he has had enough. Making 2 of those fields unavailable to schedule doesn't sound like a big deal, but now I have no clue how they will figure out who gets to play there. Good luck with that. We haven't even brought up contractual obligations and other things they are trying to deal with.

I know it's impossible to make everyone happy. Disappointed Woodies might not play, but totally get why. That's a real good 50's team and I have enjoyed the times I played against them in AZ.

Discussion: WORLDS AND NEW 4 DAY FORMAT

Personally for me the extra day is not a problem, but I do understand those coming from a distance will incur extra costs (extra day car, hotel, missed day of work, which is a bigger deal if you own your business). I was speaking with someone over the weekend at a local tournament and his thought was the first day (typically seed games) could see teams not at full strength due to people skipping these games and arrive for Friday through the weekend (50's and 55's). He felt the impact would be several teams scrambling to have 10 guys the first day then business as usual after that day. Not sure if I agree with him, but curious what some of you think, especially for the age groups that aren't fully retired yet.

Demarini seems to make the best rolling bag out there, but it's not cheap. It will probably set you back almost $200. If you want to make that or any bag you buy better, buy a bat shelf that fits the bag you buy (http://www.batshelf.com/). I bought one for my Easton backpack and it makes all the difference. Yes they are pricey, but I really like what I got.

Just a quick update on this older thread-- looks like SSUSA has approved this bat now for play (5/30 update), so if you got one, swing it without fear of repercussions.

I believe this is the tournament your coach is talking about. It's a small local tune-up tournament before the Huntsman tournament. A lot of Canadian teams play in it since they will already be down for the Huntsman tournament.

I could be mistaken, but that is what I think he is talking about.

1-1 count dissenters triggered.....

Admission fees are tricky. We pay $5 (or maybe more now) to get in to play at BLD's out west. It gets fun when your wife and others join you for a tournament (need a second mortgage). With that said, I love playing at nicer venues and not afraid of occasionally paying fees if it means the facilities are great. Paying the entrance fee sometimes doesn't even guarantee the fields are kept up-- some BLD's (Riverside) are not so great, but they still stick it to you at the gate. I have no idea how good the fields were at your particular tourney- hopefully better than most given the fee you paid.

SSUSA I am assuming have no control what local parks charge. I am sure they will weigh in.

Discussion: New Softball for 2018

This would make an incredible CSI episode, don't you think? The case of the missing balls.... no one knows where they are, the ETA, or anything about them. I have found that in situations like this, the most logical explanation is usually the right one, and I am guessing there are quite a few old Trump Stote balls sitting in a warehouse in Sacramento somewhere and most businesses will exhaust the existing supply before introducing new product into the mix (FIFO, not LIFO).

I have come to the conclusion we will hit the old Stote ball in tournaments until we don't, and no post, vent session, etc will change that fact. This comes up over and over, and it seems like the boat must be lost in the Bermuda Triangle or re-routed to the Galapagos Islands or somewhere like that. Just plan on the old ball at the next tourney and be pleasantly surprised when the new ball finally makes an appearance.

I would have loved to see the new ball in play before the hot weather comes, and my hope is that will still be the case (the old ball was perfectly fine in St George/Mesquite in cooler weather), but either way I will enjoy every chance to play and try not to be bothered when I see the old ball. The truth is both teams have to hit it, so go out there and try to have fun!

Just my opinion, but every game I was involved in at the SW Championships this last weekend went all 7 innings and I didn't feel the adjustment was so great. I obviously am a proponent of the 3-2 count and didn't love the "one to waste" compromise, but I even found that to be ok for me after watching it all play out.

This is always going to be a personal feeling thing and I don't expect anyone to change their opinions over anything I say, but I like the game going the full 7 and loved the fact I never felt rushed or forced to hit first good pitch.

I have seen quite a few teams opt for airbnb's close to venues. This is getting more and more common to share costs and cut down on drive times to games. Knowing venues early helps identify the right Airbnb house to target and reserve it before it gets gobbled up. I am not saying this is widespread, but I hear and see this more and more and have personally done this at tourneys to save money.

Discussion: What Ball for 2018 LVSSA/Southwest Championship

I know contractually SSUSA will use the rock at southwest championship and worlds in sept., but do you have an update on the slow boat from China carrying the new ball for all of the other tournaments in between? Hot weather is right around the corner and hopeful the new ball will be here so we don't have to hit the oatmeal ball in the heat.

Discussion: Mizuno Rejuvenate

Mizuno Rejuvenate is NOT approved ASA/USSSA, etc. It is a senior bat only. It's got the senior stamp and appears to look legal, but is not on the published list of approved bats on this website. Other Senior bats not on the the list include Monsta, boombah, AD Starr, etc. For the most part these bats are either unpopular now or discontinued, like the Mizuno bat. The problem is the Mizuno bat has become interesting to a bunch of people because it actually is an amazing bat that performs better than most senior bats, but apparently Mizuno has given up on it and will not pay the insurance fee etc as Dave described above.

So using it in a tourney is a big no-no. I would be called out or worse, correct?

I will stick to my adidas game bats-- I want to be compliant. I am just curious of the consequences if someone uses that or any other non-approved bat.

Thanks DD- I appreciate the fast response.

Maybe a little more context... I don't want to walk up in LV with this bat, hit a ball well, then have someone tell me bat is not approved and I am in trouble or hurt the team by being called out for using a non-approved bat. I am hopeful someone from Senior Softball can verify that I am ok to use this bat in tournament play. DD-- thoughts?

I just hit one and liked it, but I don't see it on the approved bats list for SSUSA. Does anyone know if it's approved for senior tournament play?
