USSSA has three different standards depending on tournament or league: ProM - Compression is 375, COR is 44. Classic M - Compression is 325, COR is 40. M+ - Compression is 270 , COR is 52. ASA/USA: Compression is 300, COR is 52. NSA: Compression is 400, COR is 44. I would recommend a “linear” ASA/USA bat for a senior league that can’t use senior bats. The linear ASA bats are 1450/220 compression. That’s not as hot as a senior bat but hotter than a standard 240 compression USSSA bat. The non-linear ASA bats are to fragile to use with 44/375 balls. |

Even though I didn’t get as many swings out of the OG Blackout as I would have expected, I love that barrel so much I am willing to give the new version a chance. I think I will be a little more selective in how much I BP it. |

The exit velocity coming off that bat was incredible. Problem was it only lasted me about 200 swings. I am 68 years old and about 5 foot nine. I have decent bat speed but nothing incredible. Short Porch has been claiming their Kevlar bats are hotter and more durable, but I am skeptical. |

Hitting the 44's with the new bats will indeed shorten the life of the bat. Just like any thin wall performance bat. |
| Sept. 30, 2014 JuneauBallsy | Topic: Bats Discussion: Thin wall bats for .52/300 ball This year in our ASA league we switched to the mandated .52/300 ball. Among other reasons for the switch, this ball is supposed to react less to the trampolining effect that the thin wall bats impart on harder balls like the .44/375's. The idea is that the high performance bats won't make as much difference and cheating by shaving the bat won't give you an advantage. I have even read that to get better performance with these balls it is a good idea to use a stiffer bat like the old aluminum ones. This sounds reasonable, but it seems to fly in the face of the fact that the bat manufactures are creating new ASA bats with thinner walls. They say these bats are specifically tuned for the .52/300 ball. I am wondering if anyone here has a perspective on why the bat manufactures would create new bats that are the opposite of what is the logical design. As a side note I have tried the new ASA bats(2014) and the older ASA bats(2012) with the .52/300 ball and I would have to conclude that, for me personally, the new bats did not really hit this ball any better. Also, having tried the new bats against the .44/375 ball, I would say they hit the crap out of that one. Not as good as a senior bat but close to it. |
