I asked the field director and he said catcher can't talk when ball in flight from pitcher. I just find any wording to that effect in the rule.

I batted .750 at TOC. The issue is not a distraction from talking, but hearing the umpire call illegal. It makes it tough to discern.

Discussion: Clarification on Offensive Interference and Catcher Obstruction.

During one of our games at TOC we had a batter/runner interfere with a throw by yelling out for our fielder to throw to third instead of where we wanted the throw to go, which was second. Both umpires heard it even though the batter/runner tried to deny it. The umpire just warned him and told him not to do it again. I told the umpire that the rules say that if a person intentionally interferes, he is out. Rule 8.3.E says nothing about it affecting the play. The intent alone is why he should have been out. He said if the batter/runner advanced further off the play, he would have made him go back. I don't think that is right the way the rule reads, their should have been an out.

The other is on catcher obstruction. The rule says that a catcher cannot obstruct the batter from striking the ball. There was an issue whether a catcher could talk when the ball was in flight from the pitcher. The umpire made the catcher from the other team stop. The contention was that it obstructed the batter from hearing the umpire call illegal pitches and therefore swing at a ball he normally wouldn't have struck at.

I am just trying to get an actuate understanding of the rule and if something is being done wrong have a righteous reason for protesting. I just like to get it right.

We were told that a new ball was soon going to be used for Tournament Play. Could you give us the name of the ball (I forgot it) and approximately when you think they are going to start being available.

My wife and had a wonderful time at TOC. What I don't understand is why it is February after the qualifying year. Many teams that were at their best in September, now may not play for 5 months. I know logistics dictates when and tournament are run, but I thought it would be great to play TOC in November and play at least Winter Worlds in February. TOC moves to Phoenix in November, and Winter Worlds move to Florida in February. Just a thought although it may not be possible.

Discussion: Drum Roll...the Starting Count decision results.

I played 60 AA at worlds. We only had one game that didn't go 7 innings and that was because of the rule change regarding when time ran out. For those not there, normally a new inning starts when the last out is recorded. They changed this at worlds to the first pitch which wasted 3 to 5 minutes. Our umpire in that game took his sweet time and it ran out before the first pitch of the 6th, so it became the open inning. If it was the it be way we would have played 7. It worked to our advantage, but the team screamed about it and I didn't blame them. Guys will still get their 3 strikes. They will just foul off a pitch. However, a pitcher will have to throw more meat pitches when behind. From my experience as USSSA Umpire expect to see higher scoring games, and more BB. The difference with SSUSA and USSSA is the run limits vs no limits. I have seen team's bat nearly 30 minutes. USSSA also only uses a 50 minute clock and no open inning. (Some use 55 minutes). Also, a survey that has far less than 50 percent participation is not what you should be basing change. If you want to look more like USSSA then get rid of run limits (No more need for buffet inning), shorten the time, no more mat, undefeated bracket team in finals is automatically home. You will be lucky to get 5 innings. Senior ball was made to be an easier paced game but still competitive. When you start down that road you are on, eventually it won't be what it was intented to do. History will just repeat again.

Discussion: Dallas Spurs 60 AAA Looking for Players

Our team won the Midwest Championships and the Rocky Mountain Championships in 2017, and came in Second at SSUSA Worlds. We won 5 tournaments in 2017. We are a Texas team. Our reward was to be moved up to AAA. We now need some new players to compliment our team. I have already picked up two major players. I could use one more major player and a couple AAA players. I am looking mostly for outfielders with strong arms, good speed and a strong bat. If you are interested email me at asdfop588@hotmail.com. Put "Player Interested" in subject line. Include a name and cell phone in narrative. Thanks, Al Schoelen

I just checked and the teams for TOC are listed, but have not been yet been broken down by ratings. They show 107 teams. I compared the current rating list with the 60's and found that 60 AA (My team is in the division) has found 8 teams. This may not be exact, but should be close enough to give that group an idea of the amount of competition they are going to have.

You Can wear one as long as you are not the pitcher. Pitchers are not allowed to have anything on pitching hand.

Can you put out the email to the National Rules Committee. I would let them know my experience as a senior player using 1-1 in our local senior league ( we discontinued it and went back to 0-0) and my experience as a USSSA umpire.

Rockie, You would not be eligible to play with the Legends because you're a major rated player. My Dallas Spurs 60 AAA team can have up to 3 major players. If you might be interested email me at asdfop588@hotmail.com

Discussion: WHY DID YOU ALL PUT THE WOMEN TEAMS AT HOLLYWOOD PARK?

I played with the 60 AA at Hollywood and BLD. Field #4 at Hollywood was in pretty good shape and the other two fields were in better condition from the last time I played there four years ago. I liked playing at Hollywood. Although it would not have been my first choice to play at, it was better than expected. BLD was a disappointment. Everyone had to PAY to get in. I didn't care for the carpet on the infield. Some of the fields also had piecemeal replacement of the carpet. The outfields were very worn. The grass looked like it needed some serious watering in places. I wish we could have finished at Hollywood instead of BLD.

Discussion: Player Ratings

The rule book should be changed from 3 higher ranked players to 3 one level higher players. The way the rule book actually reads, 3 majors could play on a AA team, but we all know that is not permitted. Policy needs to match rule book.

Discussion: Looking for a Senior League Rule

Too much whinning from big home run hitters. Go play with the young guys and hit home runs. However, most of those leagues have a 3 or 5 homerun limit then they are outs. It forces these guys to play softball and not engage in a homerun hitting contest. I have watched good hitters in other organizations with a 13 home run limit in a tournament where the rating was Major. The team that won didn't even use all their homeruns. They saved them and hit them in key situations. Good hitters have good bat control.
