Phoenix: ‘The Valley of the Sun’

PHOENIX, ARIZ. – Senior Softball USA moved the Winter Worlds here last year and after such a positive response, officials knew that they had to bring it back in 2013. The Valley of the Sun turns out to be a perfectly marvelous location for the Winter Worlds in November with warm weather, pristine fields, great directors and plenty of teams. This coming year marks the 13th annual Winter Worlds and SSUSA officials and city leaders couldn’t be any more happier than to have the tournament here. Fran Dowell, Executive Director for SSUSA, notes that the primary reason for shifting the Winter Worlds here last year was because the organization truly enjoys working with the Phoenix Regional Sports Commission. “They are great partners and great sponsors. We love to work with them because we always know that they deliver a high-quality event. And in 2012, they did just that. We fully expect even more fun in 2013.” She pointed out that a special thanks always goes out to the Phoenix Parks and Recreation staff that “has kept the fields in pristine shape and always warmly welcomed senior softball teams. Clearly we couldn’t do this without their help.” Winners of all age divisions automatically qualify for the 2015 Tournament of Champions that is played in Florida. Players and their families have discovered that the weather in November is about as good as it gets and when they’re not on the playing fields, there’s something to do nearly every minute of the day.
