All WED play is canceled at Walnut Creek. We'll give this rain a few hours to move out, then work with the Parks Dept to formulate a recovery plan.

Simple? I just did a quick search and found Utrip slow pitch events at Shawnee on March 2, 8, 15 & 30... Also April 12, 20 and 27. Another search showed Perfect Game (youth) in there for a week in May, June and July. Getting dates is not as "simple" as you might think.

A dozen posts in the past few days suggest that you're trying to bait someone into an argument. I've read the room and decided that there's nothing beneficial in it for me. So this is me leaving the cheese on the trap.

Discussion: DON BROOKS / CRABTOWN CLASSIC 2024

Time for my annual post about the Don Brooks / Crabtown Classic-

If your team is planning to get into the tournament, here are some things you should know-

1) This tournament grows every year with teams coming from multiple states. This year is no different. EMAIL me to get in so that I know you're coming.

2) Do not wait until the deadline because you'll likely be shut out.

3) We will use 2 parks again this year- all teams in all skill levels should expect to play games at Bachman (Glen Burnie) and/or Carroll County (Westminster).

4) Hotels should be booked in the Owings Mills area which is 20 minutes from both parks. Booking at "x" hotel, expecting to play at "y" location is a gamble.

5) Late / Early start requests will not be honored. If you are getting in your team should be ready to play at 8am, 8pm and sometime in between. The same applies to championship games.... We'll have teams from 12 states entered and most will have a significant drive home. Plan accordingly.

6) Go back to Item 1 above... The manager must EMAIL me if planning to enter a team. Don't just drop a check in the mail or send an electronic payment. I need to get an email from your manager.

Thanks to everyone for the continued support here in the mid-Atlantic region. Thanks also to the umpires for doing what you and being customer service agents for the Association.

Discussion: Maryland Classic

Currently dealing with a rainout situation at Maryland Classic. I will post results from completed brackets tomorrow.

The 40s and 50s divisions are rained out in progress and we will NOT be able to continue this weekend. Todd amd Dave are reaching out to managers now to confirm this. Tim is off-site handling a personal matter and will send an email tonall teams on Monday explaining any awards earned and credits / refunds that may be coming.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

I find this whole thing comical-

Players- SSUSA, you need to do something about the altered bat problem.

SSUSA- Does something about the altered bat problem.

(Same) Players- SSUSA doesn't know what they are doing and has no idea how to manage this.

Discussion: Music City results

Thanks for the feedback. It isn't worthless, and it does matter.

SCHEDULES- We planned to use 2 parks / 8 diamonds for this tournament. A few days before the reg deadline there weren't enough teams to justify the 2nd park so we made a decision to cancel Cedar Hill- and then a nummber of last minute entries came in.

Prepare yourself for a paragraph of schedule-geek-speak
With 24 teams / 66 games required to complete the tournament, here's what that would have required if we used the traditional 90 minute time slots.
SAT- 8:00am, 9:30, 11:00, 12:30, 2:00, 3:30, 5:00, 6:30, 8:00, 9:30pm
SUN- 8:00am, 9:30, 11:00, 12:30, 2:00, 3:30, 5:00

With new turf and no field prep required, I made the decision to schedule games in 80 minute intervals to get off the fields a bit earlier. A combination of things (big open innings, extra inning games, high scoring games) worked against us. I started looking for scheduling "outs" mid-afternoon on Saturday to reduce the long delays for the players. To my eye, there was a natural break available if I moved the last round of games on SAT night to first thing SUN morning. The decision got 8 teams out early on SAT. I locked the gate at 10pm on SAT night, but it would have been midnight without the move.

BALLS- After 18 months of tournament play, I feel like the Baden ball is pretty fair. Performs well in varied heat / humidity circumstances and knuckles much less than the Rock ball that we used to use in Vegas.

RESULTS- The 50 Platinum results are actually correct. As the "singleton team" giving an equalizer to all others, MP/Primetime winning the bracket triggered a 2nd set of awards to the highest finishing 50 Major team, which was TX Steel / CA Bat. Marcus handed them out and took photos before they left the park.

Hope this helps.

A huge THANK YOU to all of the teams who not only participated, but were largely complimentary even when fell behind. There is always room for improvement and I'll add your comments to the tournament notes that I've already made. Tim

With the team list now finalized, I expect to start working on the Music City schedule this afternoon. We're using Cane Ridge only this year. All teams should expect long days at the park which means early morning starts and evening finishes.

Hi Tim,

Field assignments, particularly at a tournament like this one are determined after we know exactly who is in the tournament. Expect something on, or about March 6th. I'd suggest booking something in between the 2 parks. Tim

I (we) can't promise you "x" number of entries but do know that a number of teams requested the date change because they felt August was too late in the season for the Southerns. SSUSA listened and moved it way up on the calendar. If those who requested the change support it, you should be fine.

Discussion: New rule on shaved bats

I feel differently. IMO- the manager should be thankful that his suspension was reduced from 12 months to 4 months (during the off-season, no less). He, and the WW team should take that reduction and quietly sit this conversation out.

We've all had life changes, lost a step, or have aged out of the young man's game for some reason. Senior softball is a gift because it allows us to continue our careers, to continue building relationships, and not hobble off into retirement. If you care about this game you've got an obligation to leave it better than you found it. Too many of us have looked the other way on shaved, rolled, or "self-repaired" bats. Wherever you live, you have an idea who is swinging altered equipment.

The old rule (which included a manager penalty) was intended to encourage managers to stand up and say- "Not in my dugot" and it didn't work. The new rule (which includes a team penalty) encourages accountability for everyone in the dugout.

Are you willing to bring on a guy with that reputation?
Are you willing to bring on a guy that can ruin your reputation?
Are you willing to bring on a guy that can ruin your sponsor's reputation or his desire to keep providing sponsorship?
Are you willing to to bring on a guy that can end your team's season?

Finally- If you are "that guy" Does a few pts on your batting average, or a few extra feet of distance mean so much to you that you're willing to embarrass 15 teammates, your coach and your sponsor?
