Sixty-two teams from nine states enjoyed gorgeous all-turf fields when they converged in mid-April on Kansas City, Kan., to compete in Senior Softball USA’s 2025 Midwest Championships.
It marked the tournament’s second year at the eight-field Homefield Baseball Complex, which once again drew praise from players and fans alike.
“These are the best fields I’ve ever played on,” one player exclaimed during Session 1, which featured 26 men’s teams ranging in age from 65+ to 80+. They enjoyed three days of mild Spring weather during a session that culminated with eight championships awarded on Thursday.
Homefield Baseball Complex was build in the Spring of 2024 and is part of the Homefield campus, with facilities for volleyball, football and performance labs.
Thirty-six teams arrived for Session 2, which was reduced to a four-game pool and bracket schedule to prevent playing on Easter Sunday. A cold front brought clouds, bone-chilling winds and light rain to the area both days, but all games played as scheduled.
Six teams won championships during the second session, which featured close games in all divisions. The tight final scores in championship tilts reflected the overall competitiveness.
Overall, 14 teams earned berths to the 2026 Tournament of Champions in Polk County, Fla., by winning their brackets. Five of those teams celebrated titles without losing a game.
