OBITUARIES - 11/21/19

Oct. 1, 2019

JIM SCANLAN

Jim Scanlan, 76, of Sparks, NV, died on July 21.

Scanlan was an original member of the Last Call Softball Club that was formed in 2005 and played on the 60s, 65s and 70s teams. He began playing SSUSA in 2007 and most recently played in the Spring World Championships this past March.

Scanlan served in the U.S. Air Force from 1963 to 1967 and worked in the gaming industry for 45 years.

“Jim was a great teammate,” said Steve Campbell, a member of Last Call. “He played first base and we gave him the nickname, ‘Money’. Every time he came up to bat with a runner in scoring position and two outs he'd get a hit. We all miss him.”

JOE BROWN

Joe Brown, 77, of North Hollywood, CA, died on Sept. 29.

Brown was affiliated with a number of SSUSA teams throughout the years, including Arizona Mob, Golden State Fasteners, West Coast All-Stars, GSF, Joe Brown’s All Stars, Timberworks/Adidas, and most recently, OMEN.

“Joe was a kind and gentle soul that will be missed,” said Steve Imlay, a member of Joe Brown All-Stars, Timberworks and OMEN. “He was loved and respected by many of us. He had a great love for the sport of softball, but even more for the players and friends that he made through this great sport.”

Along with Senior Softball, Brown was also a proud supporter of the UCLA Baseball program.
