Oil City Classic Officially Kicks Off Second Annual Midwest Series

TULSA, Okla. – The Oil City Classic officially kicked off the second annual Midwest Series here at Carl Smith Sports Complex, May 3-6.

Along with the Oil City Classic, the 2018 Midwest Series is comprised of the Missouri Open, Sooner State Championships, and Kansas City Classic. The top five teams with the most accumulated points throughout the Midwest Series will receive $400 towards their entry fee for the 2018 LVSSA/SSUSA World Masters Championships from Tournament Director Will Rogers. The Men’s 65 – 70 age divisions started off the first session of the tournament.

Boyd Metals (AR) and KC Kids (KS) played in a best two-out-of-three game series to determine the champion in the Men’s 65 Major Division. KC Kids took the opening game of the series, 22-17; while Boyd Metals evened the series with a 22-19 victory in game two. In the rubber match, Boyd Metals edged out a hard-fought, 13-12, victory to take the division.

The Men’s 65 AAA Division also featured a best two-out-of-three game series between Dallas Spurs 65 (TX) and USA Patriots (OK). The Spurs swept the Patriots by scores of 19-16 and 23-13, respectively.

In the three-team Men’s 65 AA Division, Oklahoma City Relics (OK) got the better of NSC Chets 65s (NE) and R & D Leverage (MO), defeating both teams by scores of 20-11 and 19-12, respectively, in the championship round. The Chets finished in second place after their 15-12 win over R & D Leverage.

Another three-team division, the Men’s 70 Major Division, saw U.S. Pallet/STL Vision 70s (MO) beat both Okies (OK), 10-9 (walk-off), and Boyd Metals (AR), 20-6, to win the division. Okies defeated Boyd, 10-9, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the open to complete the comeback, to finish in second place.

The tournament continued with the second session, as the Men’s 50 – 60 age divisions took the field.

Team Arkansas posted a perfect 3-0 record in bracket play, including a 23-16 win over Dudley Lightning (MO) in the championship game, to win the five-team Men’s 50 Major Division. KC Classics (MO) finished in third place after winning back-to-back elimination games.

The largest division of the tournament, the 10-team Men’s 50 AAA/55 Major Division, was won by The Persuaders (KS), as the team posted a perfect 4-0 record in bracket play, including a 19-6 win over Dudley Lightning 55 (MO), in the championship game. Ameriprise Mortgage Pro’s (OK) finished in third place. ETX 50’s (TX) made a strong push through the elimination side of the bracket, winning three straight games en route to their fourth-place finish.

In the six-team Men’s 55 AAA/60 Major Division, No. 1 seed Peck Elite Sports (MO) took the top spot, going 3-0 in bracket play, including a 16-4 win over Nebraska 60’s in the championship game. After dropping their first game of the bracket, Dudley Lightning 60’s (MO) rattled off three straight wins in the elimination side of the bracket to finish in third place.

Another six-team division, the Men’s 60 AAA Division, saw top seed Carriage Homes (AR) go 3-0 in bracket play, including a 29-17 win over 50 Caliber Silver St. Louis (MO), in the championship game. Following a loss to start bracket play, 50 Caliber Silver St. Louis made a solid run through the elimination side of the bracket with three straight wins to reach the championship game. Big Daddy’s Donuts (MO) finished in third place.
