SPA Dalton sept 11-14
As of now Friday the 5th at 3pm I still cant get a game time or field assignment for 50AAA in Dalton and SSUSA already has its OCT. Worlds posted? Maybe the weather is an issue??? Anyone got any info? I called the office and all I got was that we had 14 (countem dirty gary14) in our division. Sorry couldn't resist it. I'm tryin to quit. We have to drive all night for a thursday game and it would be nice to know if we need a case of Red Bull to play an 8am game. Anyone? Anyone?

Last year they started all the games at 10:00 Thursday morning. One team got to start at 11:15. You were through by mid afternoon on Thursday.

Hard to believe they can't get it posted by now.

Corky, not to bust anyone's bubble, but it is all about the kickback on hotel rooms. If you are not told whether you play at 8:00 AM or 4:00 PM, you plan for the early game, and someone gets more money for the extra day on each motel room. This is why their tournament is 4 days. SSWC surveyed the coaches a couple of years ago on whether teams would rather have 4 days with a 6 game guarantee or 3 days with a 5 game guarantee, and the second choice won. Last year at Dalton at noon there were only 2 games going on Saturday when most tournaments would have been using every diamond, but the kickback on motel rooms was good for Saturday and Sunday since most teams plan on winning. It is still better than going to world championship at the Mistake by the Lake with rules much more out of touch than anyone else's. OK, this is as negative as you will catch me either, and I think that SSWC and FHC do the best job of any tournaments that I have seen.

I'm playing with Scrap Iron 50 AAA and my coach SouthPaw said Ridge told him there was a little more than 20 teams in the 50 AAA bracket. That's a pretty good turn out for this year.

UMP in GA:

Had a good time there in the 75+ bracket and to me it is a well run tournament. We had open fields so they kept moving the teams away from the sun fields. We wanted to beat the Major + team Fairway Ford but our bats just went silent at the wrong time. The pitcher for Fairway done a nice job of keeping our hitters off balance.

Best part of tournament I finally got to meet Bruce from Ga.

Looking forward to next year.

A great weekend for softball. Good times with friends new and old. Good to see Bob, Donnie, just missed Bruce somehow. Got a chance to meet Randle from Indie, George from Kaysons along with many others.

Congratulations to a very tough Pace team for their 1st place finish. A great group of ball players, competitors, and good group of guys (in spite of that New York accent). That 2-1/2 hour game we played (they won 34-33) with neither team giving an in made for a great tournament & was the "must game/highlight" for both teams. It's games like that coupled with the folks involved that make this all worth while.

Hats off to Ridge and his crew for a well run event. Even the tenuous weather cooperated.

Pace is a great hitting team. Major caliber defense to go along with it.

Congratulations to Pinehurst for taking Pace to the wire in the Championship game. After gaining the lead, their defense missed a few plays they had made all tourney long.

The only real sad note was the Houston team having to forfeit the tournament to prepare for hurricane Ike.

Leo I was hoping the Monster 50's and the Georgia Express 60's would bring on home with the win. I thought they had alot of good times in the 50's and 60's. A great turnout of teams and tourneyment run great. I'm glad to see SSUSA and SPA are trying to take care of us Senior Softball. I'd like to see more one SSUSA tourneyments in the South East a year.

Leoslocks & 4x4,
Thanks for your kind words about our team PACE. We certainly were fortunate to sustain our hitting all tournament long. The competition was great and we will not forget the classic 34-33 battle with C&J. It was great to meet some new teams and faces. The tourney was well run and the facilities top notch. Our thoughts go out to the Houston team that had to return home as well as all the families caught in the path of IKE.
Safe travel to all--- PACE

##7,

Congratulations on your victory. I was wondering, are you the same PACE team that is entered in the 55 AAA in the LVSSA?
