Discussion: March 20-25 TOC Tournament -Homefield Sports Complex-KC KS

Any particular reason this tournament was moved from the middle of April to March 20-25? It was questionable enough with weather issues the last 2 years (cold, wind and rain) in the middle of April & now moving it to the end of winter/the 1st week of spring, there is no clue as to what we may encounter weather wise. We've had ice storms and blizzards in the middle of March before in the KC area. I just dont understand this move. Kansas isn't Texas, Florida or California. Homefield has 8 turfed diamonds and Mid-America in Shawnee KS has 10 turfed diamonds, surely there is a weekend later in the season where only rain would be a concern for a TOC tournament.
Parman, these are some of the nicest fields SSUSA has in their schedule, if not the nicest. This is a great question to ask. Maybe they don't want teams to come at all.
Parman, I actually called the office and they said lets just hope for decent weather. Like you said it was really cold in KC last year. They also moved the music city classic to the first weekend in March. Its sill winter...LOL. 2 years ago is was snowing in Nashville and 35 degrees in April when it was held so lets move it to the winter the first weekend in March. Make it make sense, unbelievable they would do this.
Gents,

There are a number of factors that come into play when scheduling. Most of the time it has to do with park availability rather than a desire on SSUSAs part to play on the worst possible weekend.

Holidays (i.e. Easter) move around on the calendar, and that impacts all user groups.

In the case of the Nashville tourney the folks that paid for new turf and new lights wanted the park on "our" weekend. They got it, and we were offered a few other dates. We aren't thrilled, but SSUSA opted to take the best available date.
Good catch PARMAN. I don't know how I missed the dates.

We won't be going now on those dates, to much money to spend
and a very good possibility of really bad weather and the tourney
getting canceled after we get there....

Another thing to consider, most if not all players in middle America (other than Texas) have only had indoor hitting practice once the calendar turns to November until spring thaw. Then putting a tournament on when its still more than likely going to be cold, what is going to happen? Pulled muscles and cracked bats is whats going to happen. It just doesn't add up having a TOC in Kansas City, KS before a TOC in Las Vegas, Nevada. Like WCLARK 06 states, make it make sense, cause its sure isn't making any sense to me. And Tim M I get it with parks and availability & all that but see my 1st post. Surely there would be 1 weekend from April thru the end of August where the 8 turf complex or the 10 turf complex would be available for a SSUSA TOC event. I would almost guarantee a bigger turnout if this was held late in the spring or early summer.
