Discussion: Just me?
Is is just me or does anyone else think that having a 5 team tourney drug out over 3 days is absolutely stupid? Not only is it 3 days but the pool play games are being played Friday, 2 games at 11 00 then 2 games at 12 30 followed by one game at 2 00. Then 4 of the 5 teams play our first bracket game as 6 30 PM Friday night. There is at most 3 games IN TOTAL being played in the bracket on Saturday in which 2 of the 5 teams will go home. Those games are being played at 11 00, 12 30 and 5 00. Leaving and 8 00, 9 30 for the Championship and 11 for the IF game if needed. Not only are we forced to stretch what should be finished in 2 days easily but then you have huge 5 and 6 hour time gaps between games.
This is absolutely ridiculous..
JohnO ... I don't think we had any 5-team tourneys last weekend ... We had a 67-team event (Northeast) that had exactly ONE open game slot over the final three days (at 6:30 PM on an unlighted field) and another 78-team event (Northwest) that had about five open game slots at 8:00 PM or later and also had 5:00 PM Sunday "If" games ... No five's anywhere on our schedule that I can see ...
Not sure John O28’s post was directed specifically at SSUSA tournaments or not, but I agree that there are tournaments in general that drag out too long. If it starts on a Friday there should be at least 3 games, and play an additional game on Saturday so that so many teams don’t have to stay over. Obviously there are many factors such as umpires and field availability.
Dave,
This wasn't directed towards SSUSA it's not an SSUSA event just using your message board to vent and get input.. That being said Dave, since you do scheduling would you take the division with the smallest amount of entries and make it start brackets on Friday night and then play a max amount of total games of 3 on Saturday?
That "hypothetical" scheduling theory would be unacceptable in my view ... It would have to be some really restrictive field constraints on Saturday for that to happen, but never voluntarily ...
John028 .... After our discussion last night, I thought about it. While 50AAA usually tends to get the largest portion of teams, this year, due to sign-ups being taken in order they were received, 50AAA actually ended up being the smaller of the age groups and classifications. So most likely, your games/time slots are being used to fill in. Where as it's usually the other way around. Not saying that's the case. Just only thing that would explain it.
Brotherhood,
I can see that to a point but when you have a 50M/55M+ with 13 teams and they only play 4 bracket games on Friday night they could have easily made it 6 bracket games on Friday for them giving everyone but the 1 seed a bracket game amd started our bracket game on Saturday. That would make far more sense than making us come back to the fields 5 hours after our last pool play game.
There are far more 50M/55M+ games to get through than 50AAA so it would make much more sense to get more of those game in than ours. Hell they could havr started our whole tourney on Saturday and it would have made more sense.
