Discussion: A Question About Safety

I know that SSUSA goes to great lengths to ensure safety of it's players. But I think one exception is about schedule for older players. I played with my '70s team in Reno two weeks ago. We played four games on Day 2. If we hadn't lost our last game, we would have needed to play 5 straight games on Day 3 to win the tournament in our 9 team bracket. We have 4 players over the age of 75, with the rest all 70+. Nine games in two days in temperatures that were around 90 degrees on Day 3 on hot synthetic fields is too much for our age group. It's a health and safety issue. We don't have the same body and energy level as in our earlier senior softball years. Sadly, I don't have the answer to mitigate this, but maybe someone does. This is not a shot at SSUSA, as I think they are a great organization, but rather a call for something more reasonable that 70 year olds can tolerate.
Single elim would take care of it. Something like 3 or 4 pool play games right into a single elim bracket.
If I'm interested in being verbally abused mercilessly, all I do is write a schedule for this age group that doesn't include a double elimination or three-game-guarantee bracket! ... They generally DEMAND anything other than a single elimination bracket ... It's not even close ... But we'll keep trying to spread it out and minimize the adverse impacts ...
