Discussion: Base Runner

Man on 1st. Grounder to 3rd. He fields and throws to 2nd. Middle fielder turns to complete the dlb play. Runner from 1st gets a great break and runs at the middle fielder, stops about 2/3 feet in front of him standing vertically-eye to eye. Middle fielder has an issue. Fire ball between the runners eyes and hope he ducks or lob the ball over the runners head and probably lose the dlb play. The spirit of senior ball is to hurt no one. Does the runners actions create any kind interference call???
gary, this is going to be the judgment of the umpire as to whether the runner actually impeded the defensive player from making a throw.. you stated that the runner stopped 2/3 feet away from the MI so no contact was made and the runner was where he belonged in the base path.. with your scenario I would have the runner out at 2b and tell the defensive player the runner did not interfere/impede him from making a throw around or over the runner.. I have also many times seen the defensive player throw straight at the runner making them duck out of the way
to me any runner that does that is expecting to be hit by the ball...i turn and throw to first without looking out for the runner...if he wants to put their selves at risk of being hit with the thrown ball,oh well so sad to bad.....quit trying to be an a-hole by running like that.....
