Discussion: Headgear

So I wanted to ask a simple question to a very irrelevant topic that has been frustrating me for a long time. Why can you not turn your cap around backwards when batting? You're permitted to wear no cap. You're permitted to wear a bucket hat, a boonie hat, a fishing hat with a license, lures and bobbers on it (yes, I e seen it) but you cannot turn a cap around to bat. Now, the rules state that the catcher can turn his around in the field because he's looking up to field his position. Batting falls under the same principle. I have to question this because e ery team has "that guy" who screams out the rule, page number, paragraph and line and demand that the cap be turned around. So really, is it that big of a deal? I could wear a Beanie with a propeller on the top of it, but can't turn a cap around to bat.

Just sayin'

TAKO88 ... That one has been in the rulebook for close to two decades ... The simple honest answer is that wearing the cap "correctly" (bill forward for everyone except a catcher wearing a helmet) is a "respect for the game" issue that's also consistent with the MLB uniform policies on wearing a cap ...

In SSUSA, the rule owes its origin to now-retired SSUSA Hall of Fame Director Otis Rowland ... He was the original author of the SSUSA Rulebook and, not so coincidentally, retired very high up the chain of command as a US Marine Corps officer at Camp Pendleton, where respect was also very important ... It's not likely, based on your question, that you're going to fully agree with us, but that's the answer to the question presented ...

And if I'm the Director at an event where a ball player insists on the propellor-beanie or any of the other outlandish hats you mention, he'll be taking that one off, too, under the same "respect for the game" theory ...

Not just respect for the game but how about some respect for self. I personally would love for the stereos to be turned off during a game. Do we really need to listen to music to pump ourselves up? Were playing a kids game not spending an evening at "da club"... smh
The senior game is changing as a result of "the kids" moving up in age and along with it comes the loss of decorum. The amount of trash talk, bat flipping, trash music is just not for me. Call me old fashioned or in todays term - "old skool"... Just play the game and have fun and respect its rules the way it was designed to be played. While we are at it can we do away with the "up bent" bill of the cap...? :)
@DaveDowell,
I don't necessarily "disagree" with you. You bring up good points. I wear my cap front wards, bill rounded. But when I wear it to hit, it can impede the view of a high pitch. But, I really hope you enforce the last paragraph.

@Gpatoot,
I respect the game and myself. Not a fan of the blaring music. Trash talk can be good spirited at times as long as it's not offensive or personal. Bat flipping...I love to do it, but I hate when it's done to me. So I can understand the discontent.

Music before the game with a small speaker, not a problem. But when you have a DJ with giant speakers, disco ball and strobes...going too far.
